THE BLESSING OF OVERCOMING TEMPTATION

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE:
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. JAMES 1:12

When a person writes an exam, it is expected that he passes and gets elevated, promoted or rewarded. While there are grave consequences for falling for temptation, there are rewards and blessings for overcoming temptations.
The blessings for overcoming temptations include:

1. Divine favour- One of the blessings the overcomer enjoys is the favour of God. The favour of God makes life easier, in fact, Scripture puts it this way: PSALM 30:5 “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” In His favour is life! All of man’s struggles comes to an end at the instance of God’s favour. After Daniel had made the decision and taken his stand (DANIEL 1:8), the next verse tells us: DANIEL 1:9 “Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.” That favour gave Daniel privileges he wouldn’t have had, that same favour made Joseph a chief even in prison. That temptation confronting you is only for a season, greater things await you if you persevere and overcome.

2. Promotion- Joseph experienced what may appear to have been a major setback immediately after he took a stand and resisted temptation as he was accused falsely and thrown into prison, But God ensured that he was promoted and elevated to the highest office next only to the king even in a foreign land. GENESIS 41:40-41 “Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.” Even when the immediate implication of resisting temptation may be painful, divine promotion awaits you! He will work it out for your good (ROMANS 8:28).

3. The crown of life- In the book of REVELATION 2:10 “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” Every other thing ends here on earth, the ultimate is what happens in eternity. The ultimate reward for one who overcomes temptation as we have seen from our text for today’s meditation is the crown of life promised by God himself! No temporary satisfaction, pleasure or possession can be compared with the glory of spending eternity in heaven with our maker.

Dearly beloved, never forget, There is a life after this temporary one and the blessing of the crown is reserved only for those who overcome temptation. God bless you.

OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE:
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13

Whenever you are confronted with temptation, there is a whole lot at stake. When Adam and Eve fell for Satan’s temptation they lost their standing with God, they lost fellowship with Him, they lost the stress-free abundant supply and security they enjoyed while in the garden. Yielding to temptations have serious consequences on us, many times not Just as individuals but even our families, people around as well as our communities.

God is faithful, and with the free will He has given to us he has also provided the power to choose what is right (DEUTERONOMY 30:19). Overcoming temptation is a choice. You should decide to remain on God’s side at all times.

1. Decide and determine to overcome even before temptations come- Daniel was able to withstand and overcome temptation because he had predetermined not to disobey God (DANIEL 1:8). Because of that decision Daniel made, he received divine favour. You don’t begin to prepare for war in a war, you have to be battle ready before the war. When you have purposed in your heart never to steal, it becomes easier to resist the temptation to steal even when in midst of serious need.

2. Develop a strong passion for God and a deeper intimacy with Him- (JOHN 14:23). Get to that point in your life where you love God more than you love your life! Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego were so passionate about God and their conviction that they were ready to die (DANIEL 3:16-18). When you value God more than every other thing, pleasing Him becomes your priority over anything.

3. Build up your trust and confidence in God- When you know that God cannot, and will not fail you, that assurance you have will give you the confidence to wait for God’s intervention rather than yielding to the offers of the tempter. PSALM 37:25 “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Trust God and Know that he cannot fail, even when answers seem to delay.

4. Be rooted in the word- When our Lord Jesus was tempted by Satan, His reaction throughout was scripture based (MATTHEW 4:1-11). You must know the word of God for yourself. Do all you can to ensure that your mind is filled with God’s word.
Our anchor scripture makes us to understand that with every temptation there is a way of escape. Rather than focusing on the challenge or the suggestions of the tempter, find the way of escape. God will see you through in the name of Jesus.

‎HOW TO EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF THE CROSS (1)

‎SCRIPTURE REFERENCE:The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live. PSALMS 119:144.

‎Nothing frustrates the message of the Cross like the lack of understanding (ISAIAH 5:13), and the wisdom of men that is rooted in unbelieve (1 CORINTHIANS 1:17 -18). The cross is where the divine exchange that changed the lives of humanity and settled the challenges of fallen men, permanently took place. Till forever, nothing can beat what God accomplished for mankind through Christ on the Cross (HEBREWS 2:14; 10:14). Nothing settles the issues of man like the cross. Nothing more and nothing less. The cross is the place where issues are finalized (JOHN 19:30). Surely there is an end, and it is at the Cross that the end is accomplished.

‎So, what must I do to experience the power of the Cross? How can everyone experience what Jesus has accomplished for them on the Cross? This is the pertinent question before us today.

‎Number one, to experience the power of the Cross in our lives, we need to understand and appreciate the power of the Cross. The cross is not just a symbol, it is power. It is the wisdom of God in display (1 CORINTHIANS 2:8). Listen to me God's people, everything about redemption demands understanding to appropriate them (ACTS 8:30). Until you understand it, you cannot appropriate it neither can you manifest it. Understanding precede experience and participation (Philippians 3:10). Our opening scriptural reference says, "give me understanding that I might live." This is powerful because there is a dimension of life you cannot live without understanding. The problem of the Church today is the problem of understanding (ISAIAH 5:13).

Cry for understanding because your life depends on it. If you don't know who you are, Satan will call you who you are not. Nothing produces results consistently without understanding. No wonder, Paul the Apostle in his epic prayer for the Church, prayed that God would grant the Church the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and for the eyes of their understanding to be opened (EPHESIANS 1:17-18). To experience the power of the Cross,we must understand and appreciate it correctly.

Understanding will always bring a man into effortless faith. May God give you understanding.

‎WISDOM FOR TODAY
‎Nothing produces results consistently without understanding.

‎PRAYER
‎Father in the name of Jesus Christ, thank you for this word, give me understanding that I might live (PSALM 119:144).

‎UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF THE CROSS (5)

‎SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
JOHN 3:14 - 15.

‎From our previous meditations, we have seen the importance of understanding from Scriptures and the power of the Cross when it is appropriated by Faith. Also, we saw that the power of the Cross is established in the revelation of Divine Exchange. So, how powerful is the cross of Christ? What are the aspects of Divine Exchange Jesus accomplished for us on the Cross?

‎Secondly, at the Cross Jesus suffered the pains of eternal death so that he might give us eternal life (JOHN 3:16). He took our place in eternal death so that He might give us His eternal life (1 JOHN 5:11-13). The Bible says, through sin death entered into the world. Spiritual death was the organic state of all mankind before Jesus came. Death bullied mankind before Jesus came and on that Cross He tasted death for all men so that He might give us life (JOHN 10:10). Eternal life is God's answer to all Satan has done in the life of mankind and through the cross Jesus made it possible for man to receive the life of God.

‎Thirdly, at the Cross, Jesus was wounded that we might be healed and made whole (ISAIAH 53:5). He took our sickness and diseases so that healing and health might be made available to all (MATTHEW 8:16 - 17; 1 PETER 2:24 ). At the Cross, Jesus made sickness and diseases illegal in the life of the redeemed! People of God, healing is here now. Health is your heritage forever all because of what He did on that Cross. MATTHEW 8:17 says, "...He himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses..." He took it all away. No matter how challenged you are in your health, "He took it" is your prescription and your medication. Listen to me, if He took it then you don't have it. Meditate on these things.

‎Four, at the Cross Jesus took our curses and gave us His blessing (GALATIANS 3:13-14; REVELATION 5:12). This is so powerful. He bled that we might be blessed. Listen, the blessing is more powerful than the curse. At the Cross He destroyed the power of the curse so the blessing will become our inheritance (1 PETER 3:9).

‎Fifthly, at the Cross Jesus took our poverty so that we might share His riches. He became poor so that we might be made rich (2 CORINTHIANS 8:9; REVELATION 5:12). There is more for us in the Cross of Christ.

‎FURTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
‎JOHN 3:14 - 17; 1 JOHN 5:11-13; GALATIANS 3:13-14, MATTHEW 8:16-17.

‎WISDOM FOR TODAY
‎He destroyed the power of the Curse so that the blessing will become our inheritance.

‎PRAYERS
‎In the name of Jesus Christ, I appropriate all the benefits of divine exchange at the Cross. Amen!
