[ THE WORD ]

MESSAGE TITLE:
The Champions Battle: Overcoming Giants
TEXT: 1 Samuel 17:1–58
SPEAKER: Elder Ande Roland

📌 Who is a Champion?
A champion is someone or something that has defeated all other competitors to win a contest or competition. Beyond sports and titles, the term also refers to a steadfast advocate or protector who fights for a specific cause, person, or principle.
The word derives from the medieval Latin word campio (meaning a fighter or gladiator). Ultimately, a champion is recognized not just by their achievements, but by their persistent dedication to a goal or cause.

📌 What is a Battle?
A battle is an intense, hostile encounter or a prolonged struggle between opposing forces, groups, or individuals. It most commonly refers to a large-scale military conflict within a war, but is also widely used figuratively to describe a difficult personal or competitive challenge.
Outside of military contexts, a battle describes an intense struggle against difficult circumstances, adversity, or an opponent.

1. The Background of Our Lives
Whether your past or background is favourable or not, it is a great determinant of who you are now and what you become in the future.
Let's see examples from Scripture:
• David – the man after God's heart
• Gideon – the man of valour
• Saul – the first king of Israel

A. David – The Man After God's Heart
David's Background
• Born out of wedlock. Scholars propound that David was a product of one Jesse's wandering escapades in the wild.
• The last born of the family.
• A mere youth sidelined to the taking care of the family flock.

B. Gideon – The Man of Valour
"And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour."
"And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of..."
"And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?"
"And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house."
Judges 6:15

C. Saul, the King of Israel
Saul Himself Said:
"Am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest of the tribes of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin?"
1 Samuel 9:21
And God Reminded Him:
"Though you were once small in your own eyes, have you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel."
1 Samuel 15:17

2. The Battlefield of Our Lives
The battlefield of our lives is in our mind. The battles of life are fought, won or lost in the minds and hearts of men.
If we will overcome giants Goliath in the form of the challenges of life then like David we must muster and master the following effectively:
• Testimonials
• The Word
• Thoughts of our heart

A. Testimonials
Testimonials are the encounters and interventions of God in our lives that resulted in good, positive help, deliverance, protection and provision.
• Revelation 12:11
• Hear David in 1 Samuel 17:32–37
"David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine."
Think on what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 1:10:
"Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us."

B. The Word
Jesus, our model, mirror and perfect example, overcame the greatest of giants—the devil—by the Word of God.
Scripture References:
• Matthew 4:1–11
• John 1:1, 3, 5, 14
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
"All things were made by him..."
"The light shineth in darkness..."
"The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..."

C. Thoughts of Our Hearts
What a person constantly thinks in his heart is who he truly becomes. Thoughts shape character and life.
Scripture References:
• 2 Corinthians 10:3–6
"Casting down imaginations... bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
• Proverbs 23:7
"For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..."

3. The Basis of Our Victory in Life
Jesus, the Overcomer
Our confidence to overcome is because He has overcome.
John 16:33
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
Hebrews 12:2
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith..."
The Witnesses
Hebrews 12:1
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses..."
Hebrews 11:32–34
• Gideon
• Barak
• Samson
• Jephthae
• David
• Samuel
• The prophets
Who through faith:
• Subdued kingdoms
• Wrought righteousness
• Obtained promises
• Stopped the mouths of lions
• Quenched the violence of fire
• Escaped the edge of the sword
• Out of weakness were made strong
• Waxed valiant in fight
• Turned to flight the armies of the aliens

TOPIC: The Impact of Digital Technology in the Life of the Believer.

Digital technology has become an important part of modern life. Smartphones, social media, the internet, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools influence how people communicate, learn, work, worship, and build relationships. For the believer, digital technology can be a powerful tool for spiritual growth and advancing the Gospel, but it can also create serious challenges if not used wisely.

Positive Impacts of Digital Technology

1. Access to God’s Word: Believers can access the Bible through mobile applications, websites, audio Bibles, and digital study resources. This makes Bible study easier and more convenient.

2. Spread of the Gospel: Through social media, livestreaming, podcasts, and other digital platforms, believers can share the message of Jesus Christ with people across the world. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).

3. Spiritual Growth: Digital technology provides access to sermons, Christian books, Bible studies, worship songs, devotionals, and prayer programmes that can strengthen a believer’s faith.

4. Christian Fellowship: Technology enables believers to remain connected through online prayer meetings, church groups, and Christian communities, especially when physical meetings are difficult.

5. Education and Productivity: Digital tools help believers acquire knowledge, develop skills, conduct research, manage businesses, and perform their responsibilities more effectively.

Negative Impacts and Challenges

Digital technology can also become harmful when it is not properly controlled. Excessive use may lead to addiction, distraction from prayer and Bible study, exposure to immoral content, cyberbullying, misinformation, unhealthy comparison, and the neglect of physical relationships.

Social media can also encourage pride and the desire for human approval. Believers must therefore remember the instruction in Romans 12:2 not to conform to the pattern of the world.

How Should a Believer Use Digital Technology?

A believer should use technology with wisdom, discipline, and purpose. Before posting, watching, sharing, or engaging with digital content, the believer should ask whether it glorifies God and contributes positively to spiritual and personal growth.
Philippians 4:8 encourages believers to focus on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. This principle should also guide our digital lives.

Conclusion
Digital technology is a tool; its impact depends largely on how it is used. For the believer, it should not become a master, distraction, or substitute for a genuine relationship with God. Instead, it should be used to glorify God, spread the Gospel, strengthen faith, build relationships, and positively influence society.

Key Scripture: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

MESSAGE TITLE: More Than a Conqueror.
Texts: Romans 8:35–39; Romans 5:3–5; Romans 8:28
Speaker: Mummy Joyce O. Triumph

📌 A conqueror is one who wins a country in war or defeats an enemy or opponent.

📌 I must be a child of God for me to become a conqueror.

Characteristics of People Who Are Conquerors
1. Unshakable in Trials
They persevere and endure because they know that trials cannot defeat them.
References: Matthew 10:22; Revelation 2:10; 1 Peter 5:4.

2. Secure in God’s Love
They are confident and secure in the love of God.
References: Revelation 12:11; 1 John 4:19.

3. Courageous in Persecution
They remain courageous even when facing persecution.
Reference: Daniel 3:16–17.

4. Dependent on God and Not Self-Reliant
They depend on God rather than relying on their own strength.
Reference: 1 Corinthians 5:57. (Likely intended: 1 Corinthians 15:57.)

5. Overcomers, Not Just Survivors
They do not merely survive difficulties; they overcome them.
Reference: Colossians 1:27.

6. Resilient
They are loyal, steadfast, and able to remain strong in difficult situations.

Conclusion
In conclusion, being more than a conqueror means living a victorious life through Jesus Christ. A true conqueror remains unshakable in trials, secure in God’s love, courageous in persecution, dependent on God, and resilient in difficult situations. Through faith in Christ, we do not merely survive challenges; we overcome them. Therefore, no matter what we face, we should remain steadfast, knowing that “in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).
