Inauguration of the Langtang Missionary Diocese (2008)
On May 22, 2008, the Langtang Missionary Diocese was inaugurated as one of the missionary dioceses within the Church of Nigeria. Located in Plateau State, the diocese belongs to the Jos Ecclesiastical Province. Missionary dioceses like Langtang are founded with a strong evangelical mandate to plant churches and spread the gospel in their localities.

Election of Bishop Innocent Ordu for Evo Diocese (2009)
On this day in 2009, Bishop Innocent U. Ordu was elected as the Diocesan Bishop of the newly created Diocese of Evo. Evo Diocese would be formally inaugurated on July 13, 2009, with its cathedral at All Saints. The motto of the diocese is "To Love, Peace and Preach Christ." Bishop Ordu was consecrated on July 12, 2009, at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and enthroned the following day.

Inauguration of the Missionary Diocese of Bari (2008)
On May 21, 2008, the Missionary Diocese of Bari was formally inaugurated. The diocese is situated in Kano State and falls within the Kaduna Ecclesiastical Province. Its current bishop is the Rt. On May 19, 1949, Bishop Israel Adeyemo was born. He would later become the pioneer Bishop of the Diocese of Omu-Aran, which was inaugurated on March 10, 2007. Bishop Adeyemo was enthroned on the same day as the diocese's inauguration. The Diocese of Omu-Aran belongs to the Kwara Ecclesiastical Province, which was inaugurated in 2009.

The Chasuble

The chasuble is the outermost Eucharistic vestment, worn by the celebrant over the alb and stole. It is poncho-like, with an opening for the head, and falls to just above the wrists. In Anglicanism, its use was suppressed during the Reformation but revived in the 19th century. Today, it is standard in high church and Anglo-Catholic parishes, while low church and evangelical Anglicans often wear only a surplice or alb with stole.

The chasuble’s colour and ornamentation change with the season: simple for Lent, ornate for Christmas and Easter. Its shape symbolises charity covering all (Colossians 3:14). Many Anglican chasubles feature a β€œY” or β€œTau” cross on the back, echoing medieval designs. The revival of the chasuble marked a major shift in Anglican identity, signalling a return to patristic and pre-Reformation worship practices.

Creation of the Awori Diocese
On May 18, the synodical motion for the creation of the Awori Diocese was formally passed. The new diocese, with its seat at St. James' Cathedral in Ota, was officially inaugurated later on May 29, 2008. The creation of Awori Diocese was part of a larger wave of diocesan restructuring that saw several new dioceses inaugurated to bring the church closer to the grassroots of the diverse ethnic and linguistic communities in Nigeria.
