Miracles or signs are meant to direct people to Christ. Observations have shown that rather than directing people to Christ, miracles in Nigeria now direct miracle - seekers to their miracle - givers. The miracle-givers now devise different tactics to merchandise their trades and staged miracles have begun to multiply in our poverty -stricken society. They advertise themselves on clothes, banners, stickers, bangles, etc rather than advertising Jesus. Such self advertisements bring in quick money and due to its ready-made market, many miracle-givers are in the miracle markets. However, Jesus' remark to the official in John 4:48, "Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe!" indicates the importance of having faith in Christ rather than seeking miracles. The official in the Gospel later believed and he found that his son was healed exactly the same time Jesus said, "Go home, your son shall live" (Jn 4:50). Beloved in Christ, Jesus is present anywhere we are. Let's believe in him and build our faith in him rather than running after miracles that cannot withstand challenges. May God bless you and keep you for ever. Amen.

As we rest in the warmth of this 4th Sunday of Lent, we're invited to reflect on the powerful story of healing and revelation in John 9:1-41. A man, blind from birth, receives sight from the Lord, only to face the harsh judgment of the Pharisees, who prioritize rules over compassion. Despite the undeniable miracle, they refuse to believe, ultimately casting the healed man out. But Jesus finds him, reveals himself as the Son of Man, and brings light to his life. This story calls us, as enlightened Christians, to choose between light and darkness. Having received the gift of light in baptism, we're empowered to shine brightly, rejecting the shadows of falsehood and injustice. May our commitment to truth and justice be unwavering, even in the face of adversity, and may God strengthen our faith to walk in the light of Christ.

Checking on the saints:

Lord, extend your mercy to your family; may your people experience joy and compassion, for you take delight in humble hearts, not mere sacrifices and offerings. May your name be glorified. Amen.
