GRACE TONIC
WEEK 5: FEBRUARY 4, 2019
TOPIC: OPEN HEAVENS AND YOUR FULFILLMENT
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 4:17
Open heaven is a miraculous or supernatural intervention in the life of a man. God opens the heaven in order to help a man live a fulfilled life. It was God’s manifestation for effectiveness in the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God uses open heaven like a bell to call and draw people unto Himself. It should be our constant experience, not a seasonal surpirse. It is also God's way of making every detail of your life a perpetual blessing to many generations. Hence, God has brought us into a season of unprecedented blessings.
Meanhile, every blessing of God is guided by principles. Consider the example of a believer that is praying for financial blessings but would not practice the principles of giving and working. God blesses the works of our hand and if we give it shall be given unto us (2 Thessalonians 3:10; Deuteronomy 28:12; Luke 6:38).
Consequently, maximizing the experience of open heavens requires following specific principles and instructions. God’s instruction to Archippus will the principle or compass that will guide and help us make the most of the heavens opened over us.
"And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.” (Colossian 4:17 KJV).
In this season of open heavens, one of the testimonies you will have is that of fulfillment in all that you do if God is involved. There will be so many fulfillment until fulfillment becomes synonymous to your name in Jesus name.
The word fulfil is an instruction in this scripture, and the acronym of it will form the bases for extracting the principles that facilitate the experience of Open heavens.
To fulfill, then you have to;
1. FIND OUT
Your major assignment in this season of open heavens is to find out your ministry. God will not open the heavens on nothing. It is the discovery your assignment that provokes open heavens. Even if God opens the heavens, you won't know it because you have not discovered the reason the heaven was opened. To have speed in itself is good but it is useless in the wrong direction. Jesus’s first move in the season of open heaven was to find out.
As soon as heaven was opened on Jesus, the next thing the Bible says was,
"Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli" Luke 3:23
Jesus began the ministry for which the heavens were opened immediately. This implies that He knew the ministry before the opening of the heavens. He already found out.
Ensure you find out. Do a spiritual mapping. It is about spiritual intelligence and knowledge gathering. It is about waiting until there is a light in your spirit. It is about knowing the how to go from here. Take out quality time to find out before setting out to fulfill in this season of open heavens so that you will maximize this blessed experience.
You do not have to be master of all because you will only be rewarded for just one thing.
Martha, Martha, the Lord answered “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is needed, Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her’ Luke 10: 41-42 .
There is always one thing that God has mapped out for you. As for Joseph, God sent him ahead to save a generation for Him. Joseph’s position as a prime minister should not be conflicted with his purpose, he has his purpose summarized with this word in Genesis 50:20,
"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
Purpose always has to do with the reason God placed you in that position and why He has given you that platform. Find out why God has placed you in that office, why you are a banker, teacher, business personnel, pastor, fashion designer, stylist and all that you may be.
A pastor can be preaching every Sunday and yet not fulfilling purpose. Until you discover the reason for doing what you are doing, you have just been involved in ‘the job’ and not ‘the work’ and God will only bring reward on the work.
Friends, it is possible for you to be doing all things and yet you are doing nothing. If the priority has not been attended to, then you have done nothing. Find out!
2. UNDERSTANDING
Beyond finding out, you must be able understand what God is asking you to do. Understanding is what is revealed to you that is functional in your life. What separates ‘find out’ from ‘understanding’ is that what you discovered has already been internalized.
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3). Understanding is a spirit and a virtue imparted by the breadth of God (Job 32:8).
What the devil does in the life of a man first is not severing him from knowing, instead he wants you to know without understanding.
Matthew 13:14 says, ‘In them is fulfilled he prophesy of Isaiah, you will be ever hearing (knowing), but never understanding, you will be ever seeing but never perceiving’.
The Lord break you off from this yoke in the name of Jesus. Understanding is key in establishing and setting your life's course on a firm foundation.
3. LIFESTYLE
The lifestyle of consecration is essential to your fulfilment in the purpose of God. If you live contrary to your calling, how can you fulfill it? Consecration is the sacrificial action(s) in response to God’s love in the heart of a man. It is not a coaxed way of life but one that proceeds willingly from a man’s heart.
This lifestyle of consecration adds weight to your life and is the pillar that sustains your reign in your calling and purpose. A consecrated life is under a refuge that makes one resistant to attacks. It is a defense around a man’s life
Do not allow your lifestyle to negate divine prophesies as it was for Judas, Esau and the likes. (Genesis 25:29-32, Matthew 10:4, 26:14-16, 27:3).
4. FAITHFULNESS
Luke 19:12-13 says, ”a man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. put this money to work, he said until I come back.’
This illustrates that as a Christian the Lord wants us to grow (increase, fruitful). This is God’s desire but you can only be fruitful only when you are faithful.
John 15:4 says, ‘remain in me and I will remain in you, no branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.’
This is faithfulness; the ability to stay and remain where God has placed you and doing what He has called you to do.
What the wicked servant lacked but the other servants had was faithfulness. This was why the master gave the other servant the money he collected from the wicked servant. Faithfulness releases you for the next assignment.
5. INTIMACY
God’s intention is to bring you into intimacy with Him. That internal pull that brings you into intimacy (fellowship) is from the Lord. You cannot decide to want to be in intimacy with God if he has not drawn you.
In Genesis 3:8, God appeared in the cool of the day for fellowship 'and they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the gardn in the cool of the day...’ God came down to gist with His children. God was involved in all that they do. He knew what they were passing through each day.
Even though all the needs of Adam and Eve were met, they still had fellowship with God. Fellowship is not about request alone, it is enjoying His presence. The bringing of Eve to Adam was a product of communion. Not that Adam mentioned it to God, God saw the need during their communion. He saw when Adam was giving names to the animals that there was not one found suitable for Adam. When God brought Eve to Adam, he knew by intimacy that she was his bone of his bone and the flesh of his flesh.
There is a position you must maintain in God's presence in order to fulfill His purpose for your life.
2 Corinthians 13:14, ‘The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.’
The fellowship of the Holy Spirit is also explained as the communion, participation, sharing and contribution of the Holy Spirit. The summary of these words is KOINONIA. God did not design any man to be able to live without the Holy Spirit. That explains why life must be lived in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Even though it is God’s desire that we operate in open heavens, the open heavens will come by sharing with Him.
2 Peter 1:3 says, ‘as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.’
This implies that even though God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, they will only come by the knowledge of God that comes from intimacy with Him.
6. LOVE
To love God is to enjoy God’s sustained favour. Love for God is the most important commandment. Mark 12:29-30 says, ’the most important one answered Jesus, ‘ is this: Hear , O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength’.
Both the old and new testaments portray it as a necessity to enjoy God’s sustained favour.
Moses asserted it in Deuteronomy 7:9-10 ‘know therefore that the Lord your God; He is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not slow to repay to their face those who hate him’.
-Also Paul in Romans 8:28 ‘And we know that in all things God work for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose’
It is what you have to do with your ‘all’ Matthew 6:24 says, ‘no-one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or the will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money’
It starts from your heart. Proverbs 4:23 says, ‘above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life’
Without the alignment of one’s will, desires, passions, affections, perceptions, and thoughts with God, true Love is impossible. All of these permeates our speaking and behavior and influences everything about us.
Grace be multiplied to you in the name of Jesus.
