GRACE TONIC

WEEK 5: FEBRUARY 4, 2019

TOPIC: OPEN HEAVENS AND YOUR FULFILLMENT

TEXT: COLOSSIANS 4:17

Open heaven is a miraculous or supernatural intervention in the life of a man. God opens the heaven in order to help a man live a fulfilled life. It was God’s manifestation for effectiveness in the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.

God uses open heaven like a bell to call and draw people unto Himself. It should be our constant experience, not a seasonal surpirse. It is also God's way of making every detail of your life a perpetual blessing to many generations. Hence, God has brought us into a season of unprecedented blessings.

Meanhile, every blessing of God is guided by principles. Consider the example of a believer that is praying for financial blessings but would not practice the principles of giving and working. God blesses the works of our hand and if we give it shall be given unto us (2 Thessalonians 3:10; Deuteronomy 28:12; Luke 6:38).

Consequently, maximizing the experience of open heavens requires following specific principles and instructions. God’s instruction to Archippus will the principle or compass that will guide and help us make the most of the heavens opened over us.

"And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.” (Colossian 4:17 KJV).

In this season of open heavens, one of the testimonies you will have is that of fulfillment in all that you do if God is involved. There will be so many fulfillment until fulfillment becomes synonymous to your name in Jesus name.

The word fulfil is an instruction in this scripture, and the acronym of it will form the bases for extracting the principles that facilitate the experience of Open heavens.

To fulfill, then you have to;

1. FIND OUT

Your major assignment in this season of open heavens is to find out your ministry. God will not open the heavens on nothing. It is the discovery your assignment that provokes open heavens. Even if God opens the heavens, you won't know it because you have not discovered the reason the heaven was opened. To have speed in itself is good but it is useless in the wrong direction. Jesus’s first move in the season of open heaven was to find out.

As soon as heaven was opened on Jesus, the next thing the Bible says was,

"Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli" Luke 3:23

Jesus began the ministry for which the heavens were opened immediately. This implies that He knew the ministry before the opening of the heavens. He already found out.

Ensure you find out. Do a spiritual mapping. It is about spiritual intelligence and knowledge gathering. It is about waiting until there is a light in your spirit. It is about knowing the how to go from here. Take out quality time to find out before setting out to fulfill in this season of open heavens so that you will maximize this blessed experience.

You do not have to be master of all because you will only be rewarded for just one thing.

Martha, Martha, the Lord answered “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is needed, Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her’ Luke 10: 41-42 .

There is always one thing that God has mapped out for you. As for Joseph, God sent him ahead to save a generation for Him. Joseph’s position as a prime minister should not be conflicted with his purpose, he has his purpose summarized with this word in Genesis 50:20,

"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.

Purpose always has to do with the reason God placed you in that position and why He has given you that platform. Find out why God has placed you in that office, why you are a banker, teacher, business personnel, pastor, fashion designer, stylist and all that you may be.

A pastor can be preaching every Sunday and yet not fulfilling purpose. Until you discover the reason for doing what you are doing, you have just been involved in ‘the job’ and not ‘the work’ and God will only bring reward on the work.

Friends, it is possible for you to be doing all things and yet you are doing nothing. If the priority has not been attended to, then you have done nothing. Find out!

2. UNDERSTANDING

Beyond finding out, you must be able understand what God is asking you to do. Understanding is what is revealed to you that is functional in your life. What separates ‘find out’ from ‘understanding’ is that what you discovered has already been internalized.

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3). Understanding is a spirit and a virtue imparted by the breadth of God (Job 32:8).

What the devil does in the life of a man first is not severing him from knowing, instead he wants you to know without understanding.

Matthew 13:14 says, ‘In them is fulfilled he prophesy of Isaiah, you will be ever hearing (knowing), but never understanding, you will be ever seeing but never perceiving’.

The Lord break you off from this yoke in the name of Jesus. Understanding is key in establishing and setting your life's course on a firm foundation.

3. LIFESTYLE

The lifestyle of consecration is essential to your fulfilment in the purpose of God. If you live contrary to your calling, how can you fulfill it? Consecration is the sacrificial action(s) in response to God’s love in the heart of a man. It is not a coaxed way of life but one that proceeds willingly from a man’s heart.

This lifestyle of consecration adds weight to your life and is the pillar that sustains your reign in your calling and purpose. A consecrated life is under a refuge that makes one resistant to attacks. It is a defense around a man’s life

Do not allow your lifestyle to negate divine prophesies as it was for Judas, Esau and the likes. (Genesis 25:29-32, Matthew 10:4, 26:14-16, 27:3).

4. FAITHFULNESS

Luke 19:12-13 says, ”a man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. put this money to work, he said until I come back.’

This illustrates that as a Christian the Lord wants us to grow (increase, fruitful). This is God’s desire but you can only be fruitful only when you are faithful.

John 15:4 says, ‘remain in me and I will remain in you, no branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.’

This is faithfulness; the ability to stay and remain where God has placed you and doing what He has called you to do.

What the wicked servant lacked but the other servants had was faithfulness. This was why the master gave the other servant the money he collected from the wicked servant. Faithfulness releases you for the next assignment.

5. INTIMACY

God’s intention is to bring you into intimacy with Him. That internal pull that brings you into intimacy (fellowship) is from the Lord. You cannot decide to want to be in intimacy with God if he has not drawn you.

In Genesis 3:8, God appeared in the cool of the day for fellowship 'and they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the gardn in the cool of the day...’ God came down to gist with His children. God was involved in all that they do. He knew what they were passing through each day.

Even though all the needs of Adam and Eve were met, they still had fellowship with God. Fellowship is not about request alone, it is enjoying His presence. The bringing of Eve to Adam was a product of communion. Not that Adam mentioned it to God, God saw the need during their communion. He saw when Adam was giving names to the animals that there was not one found suitable for Adam. When God brought Eve to Adam, he knew by intimacy that she was his bone of his bone and the flesh of his flesh.

There is a position you must maintain in God's presence in order to fulfill His purpose for your life.

2 Corinthians 13:14, ‘The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.’

The fellowship of the Holy Spirit is also explained as the communion, participation, sharing and contribution of the Holy Spirit. The summary of these words is KOINONIA. God did not design any man to be able to live without the Holy Spirit. That explains why life must be lived in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

Even though it is God’s desire that we operate in open heavens, the open heavens will come by sharing with Him.

2 Peter 1:3 says, ‘as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.’

This implies that even though God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, they will only come by the knowledge of God that comes from intimacy with Him.

6. LOVE

To love God is to enjoy God’s sustained favour. Love for God is the most important commandment. Mark 12:29-30 says, ’the most important one answered Jesus, ‘ is this: Hear , O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength’.

Both the old and new testaments portray it as a necessity to enjoy God’s sustained favour.

Moses asserted it in Deuteronomy 7:9-10 ‘know therefore that the Lord your God; He is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not slow to repay to their face those who hate him’.

-Also Paul in Romans 8:28 ‘And we know that in all things God work for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose’

It is what you have to do with your ‘all’ Matthew 6:24 says, ‘no-one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or the will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money’

It starts from your heart. Proverbs 4:23 says, ‘above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life’

Without the alignment of one’s will, desires, passions, affections, perceptions, and thoughts with God, true Love is impossible. All of these permeates our speaking and behavior and influences everything about us.

Grace be multiplied to you in the name of Jesus.

REST
This is one the quickest ways to know if you are in the right or wrong place.

Micah 2:10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.

Col 3:15(amp) And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].

If your spirit is not at rest where you are, begin to ask questions where you should be. If there is no rest inside your spirit, run, because it can terminates your destiny. There is a rest in your soul and there is rest in your spirit. It is the rest in your spirit that determines where you should be per time.

Remember, God leads us beside the still waters or waters of rest. Look out for REST and follow the REST in your heart.

Am sure you are enjoying your day... Keep Beholding-Believing-Becoming.

GRACE TONIC

WEEK 4: JANUARY 28, 2019

TOPIC: GETHSEMANE GRACE

TEXT: MATTHEW 26:36-46

The password to Jesus' open heaven, as noted few weeks ago, was prayer. Every other person got baptised and went home but as Jesus was baptized, He prayed and the heavens were opened. If we also desire an open heaven, we must pray. The need to pray cannot be overemphasized.

Prayer was a major highlight throughout Jesus' life and ministry on earth. He did virtually nothing without offering a heartfelt prayer to God. The climax of His prayer was the one He had at Gethsemane just before He was arrested, tried and crucified.

He had called out three apostles along to watch with Him but He found them sleeping.

Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Sleep is one of the major enemies of an effective prayer life and most Christians are found sleeping during the time of prayer. They either start sleeping or end up sleeping.

Make it a resolution not to allow sleep to waste your prayer time. This is a resolve you need to make and keep making as a grown or growing Christian.

It is a reality that the host of hell will fight against any corporate and personal prayer time that is genuine. Whenever you attend a music concert, drama night or you are watching a film, you rarely sleep, but immediately you decide to pray, there is a serious attack from hell that you won’t succeed.

You will not record a considerable growth in your Christian life until you can overcome the weakness of the flesh by the willingness of the spirit in the prayer place. You must be able get your body to agree with you that a particular time is for prayer.

Sustaining a consistent prayer life requires every sense of intentionality. There are even times when you go to the place of prayer and the Holy Spirit did not give you any highlighted prayer points but as the unction comes, you will begin to flow in the spirit of prayer.

Without such intentionality, you will only know about prayer but you will never be a person of prayer. There will be so many nights you plan to hold a vigil but suddenly you slept off because you agreed with the devil that it was actually a night.

There would be days you even sleep late and you will still need to keep a watch overnight. You will need to stand up and pray despite the fact that the day had been demanding for you. Sometimes, it would seem as if blood is not flowing in your legs and that would be enough excuse for you to postpone your prayer time. Sometimes, the sleeping trait is inherited while it is a function of the environment at other times.

But there are three dimensions of awareness or understanding that you must create for you to consistently be a person of prayer. These are the three ways or approach that you must take to keep the fire on your altar burning. These are the three level of understanding that every prayer person has which has kept him or her praying;

THE SPIRITUAL AWARENESS

Every prayer person understands that prayer is spiritual, and there are levels of victory in the place of prayers that determine ones victory in life.

The spiritual way is to raise an alarm in the spirit that your prayer time will not be wasted.

Actually, prayer begins from your spirit; when your inner man begins to long for a communion with God.

Our spirit is that part of us that helps us to connect with God. That's where we feel or know God. Our spirits are ever longing to be in touch with God but there are moments when you know it is time to create time and attend to the hunger in your spirit.

Your ability to consistently be a person of prayer will be determined by how often you respond to this inner bidding of the spirit to pray.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AWARENESS

The next point of call when our spirits are crying out for communion is our mind. Except your mind agrees with your spirit, you won't pray. You must learn to set your mind to the frequency of prayer.

Actually, the mind is where the battle is. Once the battle is won in the mind, the greater part of the work is done.

Prayer tends to be difficult when you are about to start or a few minutes into the prayer but those who pray know that a time comes in prayer that the weakness is broken and the hinderance is removed. You need to get your mind to know that the temporary weakness should not deprive you of the eternal joy that you will experience in His presence.

The psychological way that I have learnt is that if sleep comes by 10pm and you didn’t sleep, it comes by 11pm and you didn’t sleep; by the time you cross the rubicon into the spirit of prayers, you will literarily need to be begging sleep to come back.

When you are close to breaking that rubicon, the devil and your flesh will be telling you that you can’t cope but because you have psychologically primed yourself to know that breakthrough is emminent, you keep at it. You must learn in your walk with God to keep declaring, "I’m breaking forth" despite the feeling of weakness.

This affects every class of Christians, including ministers.

When you make up your mind to pray, you break the hold of sleep. This is one of the secrets of people who pray consistently. There is a setting of your mind such that you tell it to yourself, "I’m praying, I want to watch."

If you are a Christian and your personal prayer time is always a victim of unplanned sleep, there is a mindset you need to adopt. It is the kind of mindset that makes you enter the place of prayer with malaria or headache but by the time you stopped praying the sickness or weakness is gone.

This mindset infuses your body with unusual strength. It is a kind of psychological programming that makes you insist that you are going to persist in pray irrespective of how you feel or how it feels especially when you know you ought to pray.

It is lack of this mindset that makes people to fast without praying. The prayer time was attacked because of the weakness of the body. There is a subconscious agreement with your body that you are fasting and so you are too weak to pray.

Our problem most of the time is not weak bodies but weak minds. When your mind is set on seeking God, your body will cooperate with you irrespective of how hectic your day had been. This was why Jesus will still keep His appointment with God after a hectic day.

There is a need to pray against every weakness of the mind that deprives you of a consistent prayer life. A young man falling asleep unconsciously in prayer, is too young for that. It may be an indication of a weak mind. Even at age seventy, a man will still need to be praying.

A lifestyle of doubt, confusion, depression, worry, anxiety and fear can also hinder prayer because they operate from the mind. This is why it is important to renew your mind by the word. I pray for you that your lifestyle will not hinder your answers in Jesus name

THE PHYSICAL AWARENESS

You also need to understand the physical dimension to prayer. If you take care of the spiritual and psychological dimension without giving attention to the physical dimension, your prayer life will not be consistent and effective.

You have to get your body to agree with what your spirit and your mind have agreed to do.

Sometimes you don’t prosper in your prayer life, because of your posture, instead of standing you were kneeling down. There was a reason Elijah had to put his face between his legs. Sometimes, you may need to clear the space of chairs or anything that may tempt you into a posture that elicit weakness. You are likely to feel weak praying on a chair.

There is also a way a clumsy place affects your mind in the place of prayer; physical clutter can lead to mental clutter hence you need to ensure your place of prayer is free from distractions.

These are some secret consecrations of prayer. When you want to pray for an hour on a matter, there is a discipline side to it. For example you can determine and say, "I’m going to walk two thousand steps in the sitting room until I am done with the prayer."

Then you count the number of steps as you walk across the room for the first time. This will help you to know how many times you will walk across the room to achieve two thousand steps.

What made Elijah to have a prayer posture of burying his head between his thighs was not gymnastics, it’s the discipline that was needed for that prayer time. There are times you don’t just sit on your bed and be praying gently. You may need to sit where you will feel uncomfortable so that sleep can vanish from your eyes.

One day I stumbled into the room of my first pastor. I saw that the man had removed the mattress from the bed frame and was praying on the plank. I asked, ‘Daddy, what happened?’ He said, 'I can’t be on the plank and sleep off!’

May you receive grace to be disciplined for your breakthrough and may every limitation traceable to health affecting your prayer life give way.

You can also help yourself by choosing a correct prayer partner. When you are around someone who carries the spirit of prayer, you are automatically imparted with the grace to pray. When they speak in tongues, the spirit of prayer will rest on you.

So if you can’t pray for some days, just go and look for someone who can help you rekindle the dying fire on your altar.

This should be a lot easier for those who are married or soon to marry; your spouse ought to be your best prayer partner. When your fiancé sings, it should launch you into the Spirit. When your spouse summons you to pray, the spirit of supplication should rest on your spirit.

I have learnt that the devil must not chase you beyond your marriage; that is the last resort. This is why you should load your marital life with prayer spirit. You can also do this even if you are not engaged. Start praying for a praying partner.

Your home should be a home of prayer. Prayerlessness must be banished in your marriage. You must not be using prayer time to fight, watch television, or engage in mundane things.

Your house ought to be a house of prayer. When the husband and the wife come together to pray, it may not be organized (following a format), but afterwards God organizes testimonies. May the Lord show you this path of prayer.

MEN OUGHT TO PRAY

"Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart" Luke 18:1 NKJV

Prayer is for men. Only real men can sustain the spirit of prayer consistently without loosing heart. If you are a man indeed, you will be a person of prayer because men ought to pray. Real men are known by their prayer life.

When prayer resumes, divine strength is imparted. This is what I call GETHSEMANE GRACE. We all need this Gethsemane Grace that was on Jesus Christ such that after sweating, He started shedding blood.

When you are imparted with this grace, especially in your night prayer, you won’t be sleeping anyhow.

You need to pray for this oil of grace. When Gethsemane grace is at work everything around you or you engage in will spur you into prayer.

You are the house that the Spirit of God must indwell and He can only do so if you are a consistent person of prayer.

May you be a house where offerings of prayer are consistently given to God. May the flames of supplication continuously go up to God from your heart and from your house. May the same grace that was on Christ in Gethsemane be on you. May you receive grace to pray and pray through on matters in Jesus name.

Amen.

GRACE TONIC

WEEK 3: JANUARY 21, 2019

TOPIC: THE MYSTERY OF PRAYER

TEXT: JAMES 5:17,18

_"TREMENDOUS POWER is made available through a good man’s earnest prayer. Do you remember Elijah? He was a man like us but he prayed earnestly that it should not rain. In fact, not a drop fell on the land for three and a half years. Then he prayed again, the heavens gave the rain and the earth sprouted with vegetation as usual." Phillips Version (Emphasis mine)

A story is told of a renown healing minister in America who was asked by the Holy Spirit how many hours it would take to get his phone battery fully charged. He answered, 'Two hours maximum'.

The Holy Spirit went on to ask how long it would take to fully charge his spirit. He was caught unawares with that question because he had never tried to find out. So he decided to find out by shutting down to find out how long. He suspended all appointments and ministerial obligations. 'It won't be a bad idea to find out how long it will take my spirit to be fully charged', he said to himself.

30 minutes went by; 2 hours and still counting. Day 1 passed like it was few seconds. On the fifth day he was still moving like a locomotive. Finally, at the end of 2 straight weeks of praying in the spirit, he knew he had gotten fully saturated. Really? You heard me right; 2 straight weeks. Wow!

The subject of prayer is not a new subject in the church. You must have probably read several books on this Kingdom mystery, without exempting the audio and video messages that you have on your storage devices. Elijah is not new to you, you have been hearing about him since Children Sunday School.

My concern is really why I have not prayed as much as I should. Does it also sometimes bother you that you couldn't hit the depth of what you were digging in the place of prayer? If it doesn't bother you, then you don't know how pivotal your personal prayer altar is, to you attaining God's optimum for you.

Like my spiritual father, Revd. Lakin Olabiyi, will often say, "if you are not praying then you are not praying". You can not fake it, neither can you rationalise it.

Nothing ascertains your spiritual health like your prayer life. I repeat, NOTHING authenticates or validates your spiritual state like your prayer life.

Prayer not only unlocks the chambers of your spirit, it also gives it ventilation that enhances the full expression of the divine nature in you.

Some of us will remember a childhood play we use to do. We put a naira coin under a white paper, then we shade the paper with either a pencil or a pen. What happens after properly shading the surface area of the coin? Your guess is right. You see a man with a curvy moustache. The bust of Herbert Macaulay on the coin is the same one on paper. The two images don't have any difference; they both carry a striking resemblance. It also depicts what happens to our inner man whenever the Holy Spirit broods on us or we log on to the frequency of prayer.

Jude the Apostle counsels Christians in Jude 1:20, "but you, beloved, BUILDING YOURSELVES UP on your most holy faith...". How? PRAYING in the Holy Spirit.

May your prayer life receive a supernatural turnaround this year. Amen!

One of the challenges I have noticed in my interaction with people about having a triumphant prayer life is not even in the major formulas that we use for it. By formula, I mean the usuals: having a prayer time and a prayer place.

The challenge lies in UNDERSTANDING the efficacy of prayer itself and the VALUE we have placed on it. Out of the abundance of knowledge you must have garnered about having a prayer life, I believe the following tips will help you get better in it.

1. Prayer is first about the HEART than the ACT.

The reason why we pray is not because of battles of our background. It shouldn't also be because we have a need. It is because there is a longing in your heart to talk to your Father and Friend. What makes two friends talk for hours and they don't get tired of gisting? Why do couples too engage in a conversations and you are not sure when they will end? They both have a longing to be together; they don't get tired of seeing each other. Your heart for God is the first place to check.

David gave us a perfect analogy in Psalm 42:1,

"As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God".

You must understand that Christianity is a personal love walk with GOD. Anything that you do that doesn't start from the heart has a way of dying a natural death or you will find it so laborious to do. I pray the Lord quickens your heart again to long for Him. I pray He gives you a heart that follows hard after Him. Psalm 63:8

2. Prayer is God's divine mechanism to fully harness your spirit.

You see my friend, prayer is a spiritual technology designed by God to convert potential power to kinetic power.

It makes what it is INNATE not to remain INERT i.e. dormant.

The three main spiritual functions that we do on a regular basis in terms of our devotion are Worship (I mean Singing), Studying the Word and Praying.

Worship majorly PURIFIES your spirit, that's why Isaiah mentioned in Chapter 6 of his book that he was a man of unclean lips. True hearthelt worship exposes your humanity when you come in contact with the blazing glory of the Eternal Monarch of Zion.

The Word CALIBRATES you. By that, I mean it realigns you. Our perspectives, ideas and philosophies are sometimes at variance with God's way but as we allow the engrafted word into us, we are changed. Paul calls it being transformed by the renewal of the mind. You are no longer conformed to your old patterns or the culture of the world.

Prayer on the other hand ACTIVATES your spirit. Nothing could have made the face of Jesus glow or make his clothes also shine if not for prayer intensity. Check Matthew 17:1,2 for the story.

You must also understand that when the Bible mentioned in Genesis 2:7b, "God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being", it didn't just mean that the organs of the body came alive. The full expression of EVERYTHING God made in man was switched on. Or how do you think Adam would have had that level of wisdom to name all the animals?

You don't know who you are yet or what you are capable of doing until all the chambers of your spirit are activated by prayer. The IMAGE and LIKENESS of GOD that we are is not a mere nomenclature, it takes prayer power to fully engage your whole being.

3. Prayer helps you generate supernatural results.

How long will it take the fire of a candle stick to cook 50kg of rice in a big pot? How long will it take a boiling ring to heat up a 30,000 litres tank full of water?

If you truly know the competitive advantage that prayer delivers to you, you will stop all the excuses you keep giving yourself. Just as we learnt from this devotional 3 weeks ago, Jesus prayed after He was baptized and the heavens opened upon Him. He did what was was common in an uncommon way and He got an outstanding result. How could Elijah have locked and unlocked the heaven, if not for prayer power?

Friends, there are results you may not see in your life except you pray. Jesus had to tell the disciples clearly, after they were embarrassed by their inability to cast out a demon from a boy, "THIS KIND" doesn't happen except by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:21

You must personally see to it that you are no longer one of the people still wishing they would pray, you must start praying. Put practical measures around you that will help you achieve that regularly. May the Lord pour upon you afresh the spirit of grace and supplication. May you start touching what you have never touched in God before now. Amen
