SUBDUING KINGDOMS

Scotland is an important land in the sands of church history. John Knox, the protestant preacher (in the 16th century) whose prayers the Queen of Scotland feared more than all the armies of England, was a Scot. Robert Moffat, who was the first person to translate the Bible into Setswana (in the 18th century), was from Scotland. About the same time, Rev Andrew Murray Sr. was a renown Scottish priest whose son was the famous pastor, Andrew Murray (Jr.). David Livingstone was a Scottish medical missionary who lived in the 19th century and opposed slave trade. Mary Slessor, later in the same century, was inspired by the works of Livingstone and lived up to his legacy. She is remembered in Nigeria as the one who helped abolish the ancient tradition of killing twins. She was Scottish. (In the same season, Polly Wigglesworth, the wife of the Apostle Smith Wigglesworth, was drawn to Scotland to join the missionary work going on there.) For every named Scottish saint, there are countless unnamed Christians in or from Scotland who have made a difference in their own way, all the way to the 21st century. One individual in contemporary times stands out. She is Liz Curtis Higgs.
