In today’s service, we continued our teaching series on *“Durable Riches & Righteousness.”*
Pastor Thomas Makanjuola ministered on an insightful sermon titled *“The Grace of Giving (Part 2),”* with reference to Matthew 11:28–30, Jeremiah 29:11, and several other scriptures.
Here are key highlights from the message:
✍🏽 *Grace Can Be Experienced and Taught* — Beyond experiencing grace, grace can also be taught. Matthew 5:17 reminds us that there is purpose to every instruction in the Old Testament. The coming of the New Testament does not render the Old Testament meaningless; rather, we can still learn from the principles embedded in it.
✍🏽 *The Principles of the Laws in the Old Testament* — 1 Thessalonians 3:9–10
There are two fundamental truths:
*1. Generosity/Giving Is a Grace* — Giving is not merely an act of duty; it is something that is produced in the life of a believer by the grace of God. Hebrews 2:1–3, Acts 7:53, Galatians 3:19, Deuteronomy 33:3, Ephesians 1:3, 2 Corinthians 3:7–11, Hebrews 12:1.
✍🏽 *In the New Testament, There Is Room for Growth*— The Christian life is a journey of continual growth. Joshua 21:43, 1 Peter 1:4, Hebrews 11:14–16, 2 Corinthians 8:1–4, 2 Peter 3:18.
Selfishness, or the inability to part with money, is ultimately a matter of the heart. The main struggle people have with giving to God is not necessarily a lack of resources, but a heart issue.
Matthew 5:27–30, Ezekiel 36:26, Psalm 110:1.
✍🏽 *Giving Is a Matter of the Heart* — Before giving affects anything around us, it first does something within us. God desires to deal with the heart behind our giving, not merely the act itself.
✍🏽 *Growing in the Grace of Giving*— 2 Corinthians 8:6–7, 2 Peter 3:18.
As believers, we are called to grow in our understanding and practice of generosity:
*1. Give Cheerfully & Graciously*— 2 Corinthians 9:7
*2. Give Structurally or Responsibly*— 1 Corinthians 16:1–2
*3. Give Purposefully*— Matthew 19:21, Luke 12:33
*4. Give to Ministers & Ministry*— Our giving should also support the work of the ministry and those who labour in it.
