Older generations tend to view younger generations as spoiled. So much has changed in modern times from generation to generation that it is quite hard to accurately compare them. So much responsibility and sometimes so much burden is placed on each new generation that it can seem daunting for the younger people in the world. How can they live up to the expectations of previous generations? The older generation may also think that they have failed their children, because the world may be "worse" than it was when they lived. All we can do is try to teach one another, and learn what we can from past experiences.
In these verses, King David is handing the throne and much of its responsibilities to his son, Solomon. Solomon has been chosen by God to construct a temple in Jerusalem. You can imagine the pressure that the not-yet-appointed King Solomon would be feeling; first, he must follow in the footsteps of his father, one of the most-beloved kings in history, and second, his first order of business is to construct a temple in God's honor. It could make any person of any generation crumble.
Luckily, David gives Solomon his blessing and constructive advice on how to rule. The most important tenet of the advice: serve God with a perfect heart and a willing mind. Now imagine modern society doing the same: what a perfect world we would live in!

THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD

***
Have you ever played the game 'telephone'? The game basically goes like this: I tell the person next to me a sentence that only they can hear. They then have to tell the person next to them so only they can hear. It goes on and on until it comes back to me, and then I relay what the final sentence sounds like. By the time it reaches the original person, what you end up with is usually completely inaccurate, with perhaps a lot of the same phonetic sounds but the meaning completely changed.
The reason I bring up this game is because of the gospels themselves: each gospel was written at different times and by different people. The style of each gospel is unique; Mark is more simple, John more fantastic and supernatural, Matthew more poetic, and Luke more detailed. Like the game of telephone, the more people that are playing, the farther that the message has to go, the more distorted it will become.
This is why Mark, in my opinion, is the most accurate depiction of the life of Christ. Christ is still the son of God; he performs miracles, healing the sick and preaching about love for all mankind; and finally, in these verses, he dies and rejoins his Father, and ours, sitting beside God.

I often wondered what I would do if I had a time machine. Perhaps go back and give me some useful advice. Maybe use the knowledge that I had gained and show it to my younger self. Probably use my knowledge to amass a great fortune considering I know what the future holds. Now, what if I was able to view my life on earth from heaven, similar to what Isaiah says in these verses? How would I change my life then? I would already be in heaven, so that is a promising sign. What would you do differently?
I would do all that I could to help others reach heaven. I had reached it, so I would know that my ways were righteous. Isaiah too did all that he could to prophesize and help the people around him to follow in the ways of the Lord. Isaiah knew that God was supreme, ever-present, and all-powerful. God keeps his promises by punishing the wicked, flooding the world, and leading his children to the holy lands of Israel. If you were able to view earth from heaven, all you could do is try to help everyone on earth to join you. Is it any different being on earth? It is our responsibility, just like Isaiah, to help others to reach God's eternal kingdom. Go forth and do it.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1Peter 5:8-9

The road to enlightenment relies on our ability to be open to Christ’s teaching and word, be it from our surroundings or others. The prayer of an Apostle to the Ephesian Christians quoted here reminds us of this. In it, is the wish for others to attain spiritual understanding in accordance with the hope of the Lord for all his children to strive for spiritual perfection. As inheritors of this tradition, in passing on the word, we commune with the holiest of Apostles. In passing on our prayers to others, we find unity with Christ. In wishes of finding God’s salvation born out of love and hope for mankind, we trace our true lineage to that of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Happy Sabbath!
Many of the professed, peculiar people of God are so conformed to the world that their peculiar character is not discerned, and it is difficult to distinguish “between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not.” God would do great things for His people if they would come out from the world and be separate. If they would submit to be led by Him, He would make them a praise in all the earth. 2T 125

Do you think that you have ever witnessed a miracle? Picture yourself in Moses’ time: you would have witnessed plague after plague, one unexplainable miracle after another (and still the Pharaoh would not let the Israelites go). How did the witnesses to these miracles feel? Afraid. In the Old Testament, much of the miracles that God performs are meant to make the witnesses fearful and obedient. God parts the Red Sea, finally allowing the Israelites to escape to freedom and in turn killing many of the Egyptians. When the Israelites saw this, "the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord, and his servant Moses." (Exodus 14:31) Are you fearful of God or not?
There is one major difference between the Old and New Testaments: God sent His son, Jesus, to live amongst us, to better understand us, and to save us. We have talked about the miracles of the Old Testament and how they typically strike fear into witnesses. Ponder the miracles of the New Testament: Jesus heals people, feeds people, even resurrects a person! How would you react to witnessing these events? The differences in the Old and New Testament God and the miracles that were performed in each allow us to get a better understanding of God’s desires for us. He certainly wants us to obey and follow Him, but he no longer wanted to do it through fear. He sent Jesus to convey his message in a way that would not strike fear in our hearts.
In these verses, a final miracle occurs, with God allowing Moses to part the Red Sea so that the Israelites could escape and stop the Egyptians. It struck fear in the witnesses but it allowed for the ancestors of Christ to survive, to remain obedient and devout, so that the most important messenger, God’ son Jesus Christ, could relay God’s word so that we could all understand.

I am on my hands and knees Lord, rejoicing in Your love for me. My faith journey begins, I shall do all that I can to build my relationship with You. Assist me in my plight, for I am a mortal and know nothing compared to You. I submit totally to Your wisdom. O God, and know nothing but Your love. Amen.
