WHAT DID HE LEAVE BEHIND?
After the death of Ogogo, his daughter shared a conversation between them.
Reading his words, one thing stands out: his reminder to remain strong and believe in Allah.
«“Be strong… Nothing is going to happen to me, in shā’ Allāh… Do you believe in Allah?”»
We cannot judge what is hidden in a person's heart, nor should we turn someone's death into an opportunity for speculation.
But we can learn from words that remind us of Allah.
Allah says:
وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ
«“And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him.”»
Qur'an 65:3
Illness reminds us that our strength is limited.
Wealth reminds us that possessions cannot accompany us forever.
Fame reminds us that the attention of people eventually fades.
But īmān gives the heart something that remains beyond this world: hope in Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ taught that whatever hardship, illness, grief or worry afflicts the believer can become a means of expiation from Allah.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2573
So perhaps one of the lessons we should take from this conversation is not about celebrity, wealth or popularity.
It is this:
When the world becomes uncertain, where does your heart turn?
May Allah forgive Ogogo, have mercy upon him, and grant his family ṣabr.
And may Allah grant us all a beautiful ending with īmān.
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
“Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.”
Qur'an 3:173
