Topic: What is your priority?
Text: Matthew 6:25 – 34.
Introduction
Priority means what you consider more important than others. It is the quality or state of being antecedent in time or of preceding something else. In our decision making daily, we are guided by our priority list. We need to consciously allow our priority list to guide us in our life journey. So, what is your priority? Jesus Christ admonished us to consider the kingdom of God first! The following are other things that people consider top priority:
1. Money: To those that consider money top priority, they are ready to do anything to get money at all cost. Money has become their god or idol. They are ready to commit any sin regardless of the consequences e.g. ritualists, armed robbers, prostitutes, corrupt politicians etc.
2. Fame: Many people today want to be famous at all cost. They are ready to do odd/strange things just because they want to trend. Sometimes they succeed. But instead of them to be famous, they become infamous. It is only when you come popular by doing good things, you become famous. If you become popular by doing bad things, you become infamous. E.g. social media miscreants.
3. Academic achievement/status: Many people consider the quest for academic achievement top priority. As such, they are ready to do anything to get it by hook or crook. That must not be you. Our desire for academic achievement must not reach the level of desperation to the extent that we are ready to commit sin just because we want to achieve it.
4. Beauty: Beauty is ephemeral – it does not last. Our beauty has to do with our physical appearance. Many people pay much attention to their physical appearance and they are ready to do anything. We must not pursue beauty at the expense eternity in heaven.
5. Power: Power refers to the ability to influence others and direct the appropriation of resources. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. People look for power by all means. Out of desperation for power, people get involved in all manners of evil. They seek power from the devil. Some sell their souls to Satan in their quest for power. Any power we get from the devil will eventually destroy us. The power of God is greater than any other power. Other powers will fail but the power of God cannot fail.

Conclusion
Our priority must be the Kingdom of God. Let us seek the Kingdom God first and all the things needed in life will be released to us. Amen.

Topic: How to Start a New Year
Text: Romans 8:19; Isaiah 43:19
Introduction
There are 365 days in a year. A leap year however has 366 days. A typical year has about 52 weeks. 12 months make a year. People’s ages are measured in years. In other words, the length of our stay on earth will be measured in years. We need to make our years on earth count. We should not just count the number of our years on earth; we should live our lives in such a way that we will have achievements that will be commensurate to the number of years we have being in this world. In the case of Methuselah, he was in the world for about 969 years (Gen. 5:27) without anything significant attributed to him. This study on how to start a new year is therefore, very important.
How to Start a New Year
1. Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving involves consciously showing gratitude for the good God and other people have done us in the outgone year. It is said that an ungrateful person is a great fool. We must know and appreciate the fact that neither God nor our fellow human beings owe us anything good thing (Psalm 95:2). It is sheer benevolence that we receive good things from God and man. And for these we must show gratitude. We need to show gratitude to God for sparing our lives, protecting us, etc. in the outgone year.
2. Self-Examination: Self-examination involves sincerely checking oneself to see whether one has done well or not (2Cor. 13:5). We need to self-examine ourselves to see how well we have performed in our relationship with God and our fellow human beings. The outcome of our self-examination will provide a guide on how to continue to improve in our relationship with God and man. To get it right in our relationship with our fellow human beings, we must get it right in our relationship with God.
3. Forget the Past: In other to succeed in the New Year, we must forget our past mistakes/failures and trust God for success in the New Year (Heb. 12:3). Also, we need to forget our past successes and trust God to help us achieve more successes in the New Year. Life is full of ups and downs. As children of God, we need to have a resilience spirit. We must never quit until we achieve success.
4. Set New Goals/Objectives: Goals/objectives refer to things or feats that we want to achieve. The achievement of our set goals move us closer to the fulfilment of our purpose and destiny (1Cor. 9:26). We need to set goals about our relationship with and other people. We must resolve to go closer to God in the New Year. We must also resolve to get better in our relationship with other people. We need other people to succeed so, we need to get along with other people better. We can also set new goals about our finances, diet, academic performance, business, career etc. We must deliberate in our thoughts, words and deeds. In other words, we must be purpose driven.
5. Let your faith in God increase (Matt 17:20): God is almighty. He can do all things. There is no impossibility in Him. Our faith in God will determine how much we can accomplish in one life time. As we begin this New Year, we need to consciously grow our faith in God. We need to believe that with the help of God, we can achieve our goals.
6. Mind your Business (MY-B) 2Cor. 10:12: Our Christian race is on individual basis. Our life journey is on individual basis. Those we meet on our way are nor our mates. We need not compare ourselves with anybody (e.g. siblings, classmates, church members etc.). Rather, we should pursue the fulfilment of God’s purpose for our lives. We must learn to mind our business always. Comparison breeds frustration and ingratitude. Avoid it!
7. Accept Responsibility (Gen. 43:9): When things go well, give all the glory to God. When things go wrong, accept responsibility. Do not blame other people for your failures. Learn from your mistakes and get better. Greatness in only for those who take responsibility. Be responsible for the outcome of your efforts. Do not engage in the blame game. Demonstrate determination in the pursuit of your life goals. God expects us to play our part while He also play His part.
8. Give thanks (1Chr 16:8; Jer. 33:11): As we run the race of 2025, let us cultivate the attitude of thanks giving on daily basis. At the break of day, give thanks. In the course of the day, give thanks. At the close of the day, give thanks to God and the people who offer us help. We must never demonstrate any attitude of ungratefulness. An ungrateful person, is a great fool. Our gratitude is a demonstration of our acknowledgement of the help of God and the help people give us. Indeed, we cannot fulfil purpose without help!
Conclusion
The New Year holds a great promise for every one of us. It will bring opportunities and challenges of all kinds. Let us trust God to help us take advantage of the opportunities and overcome the challenges as we pursue the fulfilment of our purpose in life. All round success is our portion in Jesus name. Amen.

Topic: Do yourself a favour
Text: Matt. 6: 25 – 33; Prov. 16: 7.
Outline
- What it means to do oneself a favour
- How to do oneself a favour
- Benefits of doing oneself a favour
- Dangers of not doing oneself a favour
- Conclusion
- Prayers
What it means to do oneself a favour
Favour simply means an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual. It also means showing approval, support or liking for someone or something. To do oneself favour therefore, means to show kindness to oneself. To treat oneself well or good. In other words, it means to do good to oneself.
How to do yourself a favour
(i) Seek first the kingdom of God. Be born again. Embrace the salvation that Jesus Christ offers. Rom. 3: 23, John 14: 6
(ii) Study the word of God – the bible – and apply/obey it in your daily life. James 1: 23 – 25.
(iii) Seek to please God on daily basis. Prov. 16: 7.
(iv) Ask for the Holy Spirit and allow Him to lead you in all your ways. Without the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing.
(v) Pray without ceasing. Be God conscious always. 1 Thess. 5: 17.
(vi) Do good wherever you find yourself. Acts 10: 38.
Benefits of doing yourself a favour
(i) You will fulfil purpose and destiny.
(ii) You will live a life of great positive impact in your generation.
(iii) You will enjoy the peace of God.
(iv) You will prosper.
(v) You will make heaven at last.
Danger of not doing yourself a favour
(i) You won’t be able to fulfil purpose and destiny.
(ii) You won’t be able to make positive impact.
(iii) You will lack the peace of God.
(iv) You won’t attract the blessings you are supposed to attract.
(v) You won’t make heaven.
Conclusion
We do ourselves a great favour when we give our lives to Jesus Christ. Indeed, the greatest favour we can do ourselves is to embrace the salvation of Jesus Christ. Thereafter, we shall be able to live our lives to the fullest.

Prayers
- I accept Jesus Christ into my life today. I resolve to follow Him till the end.
- My father and my God, help me to obey you on daily basis in Jesus name.
- O’ God, empower me to fulfil my purse and destiny in Jesus name.

Topic: What are you known for?
Texts: Matt. 7: 17 – 20; Gal. 5: 22 – 26.

Introduction
People are generally known by their character or personality. What is character? Character refers to the set of qualities that make somebody different from others. It refers to our attitude, behaviour that endures over long periods of time. Our character is an important determinant of our success in life. We cannot afford not to consciously examine our character from time to time. Closely related to character is our reputation. Reputation – what people say we are. In most cases, we are more concerned with what people say we are than whom we are – our character.
How do we form character?
(i) Heredity: From our parents e.g. sin inherited from Adam and Eve. Bad emotions such as anger, wickedness, lying, stealing, womanising etc. (Ps. 51:5); Romans 5: 19).
(ii) The environment: Our environment influences our character. What we see, hear, and watch on the media influence our character consciously or unconsciously.
(iii) Education: The type of school we attended, what we learnt in school etc. influence our character (Hos. 4:6).
(iv) Peer group/our friends: The kind of friends we keep influence our character (1 Cor. 15:33).
(v) The word of God: The word of God is supposed to influence our character (mould it) to be like Jesus Christ (Heb. 4:12).
(vi) The mass media: The radio, television, the Internet etc. influence our character.
Why do we need to cultivate Good Character?
(i) To fulfil destiny/purpose in life
(ii) To leave the world a better place than we met it.
(iii) To be like our master – Jesus Christ.
(iv) To enter heaven.
Examples in the Bible
Moses - he was known for meekness, patience, gentleness, perseverance etc.
Joseph – he was known for integrity, holiness, foresight, honesty, dreaming, interpretation of dreams etc.
Solomon – wisdom, wealth, women etc
Jesus Christ - Righteousness, humility, empathy, kindness, mercy etc.
Judas Iscariot – Betrayal, deceit, worldliness etc.
Contemporary examples
Abacha – Tyranny, selfiness, wickedness, corruption etc.
Mohammed Ali – Strength, Empathy, pride, greatest boxer etc.
Stephen Keshi – Hard-work, coach, team player etc.
Awolowo – Integrity, empathy, true leader etc.
If we take care of our character, our reputation will take care of itself.

Conclusion
Our perfect example – Jesus Christ (Phil. 4:8)
Let us study the character of Jesus Christ and imbibe all. That way, we will not only become perfect, we will also be preparing for heaven.
