Emir of Ilorin Appoints Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as Chief Imam of Ilorin

ILORIN – His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has officially appointed Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin Emirate.

The appointment follows a rigorous selection process in which Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani emerged victorious among several distinguished scholars vying for this prestigious spiritual leadership position.

About the New Chief Imam

Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, aged 42, is a grandson of the 8th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.

Prior to his appointment, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport Egbejila, Ilorin. He also served as the Imam leading daily and weekly Jumu'ah prayers at Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, Ilorin. Additionally, he is a presenter of the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation radio program on Radio Kwara during Ramadan and teaches at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.

Emir's Remarks

In his remarks, the Emir offered prayers for the new Chief Imam's successful reign, wishing him long life, sound health, and divine wisdom to effectively pilot the affairs of the Muslim Ummah.

"Amin. Long live the Ilorin Emirate. Shehu, Shehu, Shehu, wallahu yazimuka mina nas, amin," the Emir declared.

_*Why Slaughtering During Eid al-Adha?_

Eid al-Adha is one of the most important festivals in Islam. It is celebrated worldwide in remembrance of the obedience and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismail. During this period, Muslims who are financially able perform Udhiyyah (sacrifice of an animal such as a ram, goat, cow, or camel) for the sake of Allah.
Meaning of Sacrificing a Ram
The killing of a ram during Eid al-Adha is called Udhiyyah.It is an act of worship done to seek the pleasure of Allah and to remember the great test of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S).
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice.”
— Surah Al-Kawthar 108:2
Lessons

1. Obedience to Allah
2. Remembering the Sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim.
3. Strengthening Faith and Taqwa.
4. Helping the Poor and Needy
The meat is shared among family, neighbors, and especially the poor,
5. Promoting Love and Unity
It strengthens brotherhood, unity, and happiness among Muslims
6. Appreciating Allah’s Blessings
7. Reviving the Sunnah
It follows the tradition of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), strengthening Islamic practice.
8. The Blood and Meat Do Not Reach Allah
Islam teaches that Allah does not need the blood or meat of the sacrificed animal. What truly reaches Him is sincerity, faith, and Taqwa (fear and consciousness of Allah).
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Neither their meat nor their blood reaches Allah, but what reaches Him is piety from you.”
— Surah Al-Hajj 22:37
This shows that Eid sacrifice is not about the physical act alone, but about obedience, sincerity, and devotion to Allah.
Conclusion
The slaughtering of a ram during Eid al-Adha is a powerful act of worship filled with spiritual, moral, and social lessons. It teaches obedience to Allah, compassion for others, gratitude, and sincerity. Muslims should perform it with pure intention and understanding of its deep meaning.

Historical Background of Mount Arafat
Mount Arafat, also known as Jabal ar-Rahmah (Mountain of Mercy), is one of the most sacred places in Islam. It is located near Mecca and plays a central role during the annual Hajj.
According to Islamic history, this blessed place is connected to several important events:
It is believed that Prophet Adam and Hawwa reunited at Arafat after being sent down from Paradise.
The mountain is strongly linked with Prophet Ibrahim, whose devotion and obedience to Allah became part of the rituals of Hajj.
The Prophet Prophet Muhammad delivered his famous Farewell Sermon on the plain of Arafat during his last Hajj in 632 CE. In this sermon, he emphasized:
Equality of all Muslims
Rights of women
Justice and brotherhood
Sanctity of life and property
Holding firmly to the Qur’an and Sunnah
It was also on the Day of Arafah that the verse was revealed:
“This day I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favor upon you, and chosen Islam as your religion.”
