This Yoruba Islamic scholar made the statement on March 5th, 2026 — three months ago. Now Oyo State is facing serious bandit attacks, and the latest demand by the bandits for the release of the school children and teachers is that Oyo State must approve Sharia law.
I don’t know what the government is doing. The world can clearly see that these bandit attacks could be a coordinated operation, possibly backed by some Islamic traditional rulers and clergymen. Recently, the traditional ruler of Owo clearly stated that Sharia law has been in existence in Yorubaland.
Ogbomoso has both Muslim and Christian communities that have lived side-by-side for generations. For a Chief Imam to make such a statement before these attacks, and for the bandits to now be demanding the same Sharia laws to be established in Oyo State, should compel the DSS to quiz him for questioning and further interrogation.
No human being has the right to take another’s life in the guise of religion or belief. The law must take its course.
