MANIFOLD TEMPTATIONS

There's what God's love and protection cannot shield you from in your faith journey, no matter how intimate and precious you become to him: manifold temptations.

1 Pet.1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

By experience, a year will hardly pass without a Christian facing some manifold temptations, Apostle Peter's special phrase for trials and trying seasons.

Manifold temptations first make your heart painfully heavy but eventually make your life gainfully heavy with God's grace, glory and power, when endured without breaking.

2Co 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

Remember the sufferings of Christ, accompanied by heaviness of his soul (Matt.26:38), and the weight of glory that followed.

Phil.2
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Manifold temptations give experience to your knowledge and add character to your faith. After a while you become humble yet powerful, meek yet mighty, broken yet built.

Young believers, young in faith and not in age, aren't really familiar with this side of the Christian life until they are meticulously taught. Eventually, growth (Knowledge and experience) makes tough seasons easier and profitable.

Receive grace to endure and emerge victorious through manifold temptations, in Jesus' name!

FIRST FOUR KEYS OF POWERFUL PRAYER

One emphasis we find all over scripture and specifically in the book of James is the power of prayer.

James 5:16 ...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. note note

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Prayer is powerful. Many changes we see, past and present, happen by prayer.

What determines the powerful prayer?

1. Righteousness

The status of the person praying with God: righteous man. Everyone's prayer can be heard by God but the prayer of a righteous man is of greater value according to scripture.

2. Knowledge
The knowledge of God and of the secrets of life contained in the holy scriptures play a vital role in powerful prayers. It's through knowledge we know the will of God concerning a matter before we even start praying, so we don't waste our time. Therefore, your prayer can never be more powerful than your knowledge.

3. Fervency
James said fervency makes prayer powerful. Fervent prayer is heartfelt, hard-pressing, intense, time-consuming and often sweaty.

4. Faith
Every powerful prayer is faith-full. Faith is requisite confidence in God with willingness to obey what's instructed or required as you pray. There's no faith without obedience.

These above are the first four keys of powerful prayer we saw with Elijah and men who walked with God who enjoyed a life of manifold miracles.

I pray you'll begin to see miracles and testimonies even as you pray, in Jesus' name!

HARDENED SOULS

Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

What are the attributes of a hardened soul and what makes a soul hardened?

James listing the attributes of a soul full of the wisdom that's from above through regular fellowship, we immediately see the attributes of a hardened soul in the negative.

Jas 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

1. A hardened soul is impure or corrupt
Once hardened, they begin to do and approve error and corruption. They legalise the very things they were told were dangerous for them.

2. A hardened soul is contentious or quarrelsome
Hardened, they will argue scripture blindly, package and vocalise their ignorance as knowledge and pick quarrels over petties.

3. A hardened soul is harsh or severe
Once hardened, they become angry, bitter and unapproachable. They will begin to carry a strong face towards godly counsel.

4. A hardened soul is stubborn or unwilling to listen
When souls are hardened, they become unruly, resistant, rebels and outlaws, almost hundred percent unpersuadable. The more hardened they've become the more difficult they are to convince and restore again.

5. A hardened soul is unforgiving or merciless
Every hardened soul is hardened because of piled up offences. For this, they make inconsiderate decisions that can affect so negatively even the previous responsibilities in their trust without mercy. Hardened souls fan their ego by making the church and those trying to restore them suffer. It is worse if they are gifted.

6. A hardened soul is either fruitless or producing evil or harmful results
Hardess of heart leads to barrenness. All the people in touch with them as friends in the house of God become evil, harmed and harmful.

7. A hardened soul is partial or biased
They show favouritism and partiality in relationship, judgement and choices.

8. A hardened soul is full of hypocrisy or deceitful
Their life is clouded with insincerity and guile. Their words and life are full of lies because of the corruption in them.

What makes a believer to become this degenerate? As in the opening scripture, It's increasing absence from fellowship with the brethren and emptiness of the word of God. It's so dangerous for a believer to be hardened because it's an open invitation to Satan like what happened to Judas.

Joh 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

Despite all the clear teachings, counsels, signs and warnings Jesus gave to Judas, he continued on that path until he destroyed himself.

I pray that God will save and restore every hardened believer reading this, in Jesus' name!

THE SONSHIP OF PHILEMON

Philemon was a member of Paul's church in Colossae who was rich. He had a servant on the run named Onesimus who had painfully betrayed him. Paul met Onesimus while in prison and converted him. It was in this meeting, while having a deeper conversation that Paul got to know all that happened between Onesimus and Philemon.

Then Paul put his pen to paper and drafted this strong letter we now call the book of Philemon. It was in this letter Philemon's sonship was tested and revealed.

It is not easy for many believers to remain subject, leadable and easily influenceable when they become rich or powerful, especially when their Pastor appears to be at a lower social stratification.

It is not easy to have strong leadership over adults like what we see between Paul and Philemon.

The discourse we find in Philemon is obviously between father and son; a strong, intelligent and risky request in which a father is both appealing to and compelling his son to take back a traitorous servant into his house, business and life, Paul unwilling to take NO for an answer. This is very rare!

I pray that no matter how far and great you climb, you will remain a beloved and faithful son in whom your father, pastor or leader is well pleased, in Jesus' name!

Philemon 1
8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,

9 Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

KNOWLEDGE AND FAITH
As short as Paul's letter to Philemon was, he communicated many strong messages. One of which is Philemon 1:6

That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Here, Paul tells his mentee Philemon that his faith will become more effective by increasing his knowledge of God to sufficiency. This is still a serious message to every believer today.

The exercise and capacity of your faith is at same exact level with your knowledge of your inheritance in Christ. Paul is saying that your knowledge is the power of your faith.

This further means that your knowledge of God will eventually determine how much and how well you operate in the power of God.

This therefore is a charge to commit to studying the bible and holy scriptures, feeding intentionally, regularly and voraciously on the word and approaching the knowledge of God with a set-goal and set-time mentality.

Now, receive fresh grace and hunger for the knowledge of God, in Jesus' name!

CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES

"Avoid foolish, unprofitable battles" was one of Paul's messages to Titus that we all need today. Don't start or sustain foolish battles. Any battle involving conflict of words or actions that expends your time and dispenses your energy but doesn't return on investment is a foolish battle.

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

The following are examples of foolish battles a believer should not start nor sustain:

1. Arguing scripture with someone who is not willing to learn or improve what he or she has known.

2. Argument on a subject that's not important or on religious controversies.

3. Trying to win every argument. You must not have the last word.

4. Contending with a quarrelsome and contentious person.

5. Trying to defend yourself against gossip.

6. Fighting over someone's past mistake Christ has settled through forgiveness.

7. Responding to every provocation. Silence is victory sometimes.

8. Correcting someone who has repeatedly refused correction.

9. Fighting your biological or spiritual father.

10. Fighting your husband or wife

11. Fighting your family or church.

12. Fighting your helper, funder, financier or feeder.

And more.

Receive grace to walk away from battles that waste your time and life, in Jesus' name!

THE GIFT IN YOU
Your gift is either what you were born with or a knowledge or skill you have added to your life (Prov.18:16, Dan.1:17).

A gift is any God-given ability, capacity, or endowment placed within a person to fulfill a purpose, serve others, and bring glory to God.

2Ti 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Your gift from God will glorify God in you and magnify God through you if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will make room for you no matter where you are or go if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will distinguish you if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will bring and keep you among great men if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will bring you wealth if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will give you influence if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will give you power if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will solve difficult problems and bring relief to many if you give diligence to stir it up.

Your gift will make you fruitful, fulfilled and very great, making God your father glad, if you give diligence to stir it up.

Many gifts are stirred by knowledge- knowledge exploring, exposing or exploding that gift. Some gifts are stirred by work and practise that engage and stretch the gift. Some gifts are stirred by fellowship with fellows alike already flourishing with theirs. Other gifts are stirred by prayer.

Many are too lazy to feed and fan their gifts to full age. Only a limited minority fire their gifts far. May you be enlisted among the few in Jesus' name!

THIS BURDEN SECURING REST

Paul reveals a mystery to us and the church in 1 Tim.2:1-2 to provoke commitment to our divine assignment and responsibility.

1 Timothy 2
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; note

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

The apostle charges us to give ourselves to praying for others, great and small, in order to LEAD (to be first partakers of) a quiet and peaceable life. This apostolic assurance we find consistent with scriptural precedence and sufficient illustrations.

First, Abraham, on the matter of Lot and S***m, Abimelech and Gerar, and certainly more unwritten. God went all out to give him rest on every side, blessed in all things (Gen.18:22-33, Gen.20:7, Gen.24:1).

Next is Jeremiah concerning Israel. Although this prophet's intercession could not change the made up mind of God, when the judgement was launched, God commanded Nebuchadnezzer to give Jeremiah VIP treatment compared to others invaded, allowed to make his own decisions of residence and more (Jer.40:1-6, Jer.39:13-14).

Finally is God's word through Jeremiah in a letter to the elders of Israel for all the exiled people in Babylon (Jer.29:1,7). "And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace."

You see, becoming an active Intercessor in God's global harvest apart from the significant difference this service makes in the trust of a trained and faithful servant is a worthy investment to secure your future.

Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

I pray the Holy Spirit will make your heart heavy with the burden of sustained intercession for your land, location and nation, in Jesus' name!

FAITH UNDER PRESSURE
In Scripture, the four ways to strengthen the believer's faith are by hearing the word of God, by prophetic encounters like Paul's on transit to Rome, by the experiential knowledge that comes from practically engaging the word unto victory as in the disciples on evangelism rejoicing over devils subject to them, and by trials endured like those of the Thessalonian brethren commended by Paul. This last one is faith under pressure.

2Thessalonians 1
3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

Why do many believers become flaccid in faith when they face trials that ought to grow their faith? It's because when tribulations meet ignorance the effect is a fatal blow that collapses faith. The charge therefore is to take every believer, especially the young ones, through the doctrine of trails, the fight of faith showing them the price before and after our salvation (an exposition through the sufferings of Jesus and his apostles) and the great eternal rewards of those sacrifices, in order to help them transform the most difficult seasons of their lives into strength, capacity and mastery.

Early exposure to this particular revelation keeps believers from discouragement and backsliding, assured of the outcome of every trial and their promotion and mantles of dominion and power, like students writing a difficult promotional examination.

Grace, strength and peace be multiplied to you, in Jesus' name!

THE WORD IN MUCH AFFLICTION

There's a pattern of Satanic attack on believers, particularly young believers within the spiritual ages of babes and children, in order to distract them from growth and gains to come by frustrating their effort in the word of God. It's what Paul described as the word in much affliction.

1Thess.1:6 ...having received the word in much affliction...

Immediately believers begin to commit their hearts, minds and time to the word of God characteristic of the hunger that confirms the authenticity of their new birth, Satan attacks them with manifold afflictions from all sides to stop them as quickly as possible. This has remained an ancient pattern until now.

Matt.13:20-21
20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

Heb.10:32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

As wise master builders, Our Lord Jesus and Paul the apostle engaged two major strategies that really helped many of the young believers of their days documented in the scriptures for our learning.

The first is the strategy of teaching them early about Satan's coming attacks- the fight of faith. This is exactly what we see Jesus doing in Matt.13:20-21 above, with the young converts under him, for which most of them could stand later when the attacks finally started. In Acts 14:21-22 Paul taught the new converts in the new church territories like Lystra and Iconium to continue in the faith no matter the challenges they faced, that we must through much tribulation enter into the Kingdom of God.

The second apostolic strategy to frustrate Satan's attacks to kill and end the faith of young converts is that of making strong, strategic and sustained prayers for them. This is what Jesus did often like we saw concerning Peter when Satan came for him, and it's same thing Paul always did for the young converts under him like the Galatian church when Satan came for them by first bewitching them through doctrines of devils. Read carefully...

Luke 22:31-32
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
Gal.4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

We too who are spiritual and more enlightened with knowledge and experience must engage these two strategies too; if not most of those God commits to our trust will faint and fall when Satan begins to hit on them. We must do what Jesus, Paul and even Peter did to keep them abiding, growing and serving under grace.

Joh 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Now receive fresh grace and fire to abide in Christ, in growth, in fellowship and in service no matter how the devil attacks, and to keep others in your trust from withdrawing, in Jesus' name!
