Sunday Service Sermon Summary: "THE TRADITIONAL AND THE DOCTRINE OF BALAAM"
By our Father in the Lord, Apostle AkinOla Peace Agunbiade
This Sunday, Apostle Akinola Peace delivered a powerful message titled
"The Traditional and the Doctrine of Balaam", warning the Church against hidden compromise and spiritual double-living.
He began by commending those who genuinely love God, who are committed to His work, and who hate sin β yet he warned that some still carry **the character of Balaam**. These are believers who outwardly appear holy and zealous, but inwardly are driven by **self-interest, greed, and manipulation**, just like Balaam in Scripture.
Balaam, though a prophet, **loved the wages of unrighteousness** (2 Peter 2:15). He could not curse God's people directly, so he subtly advised the enemies of Israel to cause them to sin β knowing this would bring judgment upon them. Likewise, today, some Christians are not falling through open rebellion, but through subtle compromise, hidden motives, and double-minded living.
Apostle emphasized that some "traditional" Christians β those who follow religious customs and attend services regularly β still operate in the spirit of Balaam. They obey God only when it aligns with their interest and are easily swayed when a better offer comes.
He urged us all to examine our hearts β are we truly serving God, or just following a form of godliness without power (2 Timothy 3:5)? Do we make decisions based on Godβs will or our personal gain?
Key Takeaways:
* Balaam was a prophet, yet corrupted by greed and compromise.
* Loving God outwardly is not enough; our motives and choices must align with His holiness.
* The βBalaam spiritβ operates in subtlety, not always in open sin.
* True commitment to God is tested when obedience costs us something.
Let us remain watchful and pure in heart, not just in tradition or words, but in truth and in spirit.
