Caritas Nigeria's Institutional Capacity Strengthening (ICS) Unit recently conducted a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) and report writing training for the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Ikot-Ekpene Diocese. Funded by Catholic Relief Services and Caritas Deutschland, the training was held from 11th to 13th June, 2025.

The training, led by Caritas Nigeria's ICS Program Advisor, Dr. Michael Ibe and supported by MEAL Officer, Patrick Barka, aimed to equip participants with skills to establish a functional MEAL system, enhance their report-writing capabilities, and drive accountability across the diocese.

Participants, who initially lacked foundational knowledge in MEAL, showed significant engagement and positive feedback throughout the sessions. They understood MEAL concepts, setting up MEAL systems, and reporting on the four levels of indicators in the M&E pipeline.

Additionally, the trainees took the initiative to write the training's activity report and agreed to develop tentative monitoring tools like the Indicator Performance Tracking Table (IPTT) and a MEAL Plan. Also, a dedicated MEAL staff member was identified for the Commission.
