SHORT NOTE ON NEW MOON SERVICE IN THE CELESTIAL CHURCH OF CHRIST
The New Moon Service, known as Owurọ Òṣùpá Tuntun in Yoruba, is a special monthly worship observed in the Celestial Church of Christ to mark the beginning of each new lunar month. It is a service of thanksgiving, renewal, and spiritual dedication.
The service is usually held on the first day of every new moon, often in the early morning. Members gather in white garments to offer prayers, hymns, and psalms that acknowledge God’s sovereignty over times and seasons. The New Moon Service emphasizes spiritual cleansing, guidance, protection, and blessings for the month ahead.
Central elements of the service include:
Singing of selected hymns and psalms related to divine light and renewal
Prayers of thanksgiving for the past month
Supplication for divine favor, peace, and success in the new month
A reminder for members to begin the month with holiness, obedience, and renewed commitment to God
The New Moon observance reflects the CCC’s strong emphasis on spiritual order and alignment with divine timing. It is a moment for members to rededicate themselves and seek God’s presence to guide their steps throughout the new month.
