Brief History of the Church
The Gospel Faith Mission International, the Church with the Word for the World, founded on the Solid Rock by God, through a small group of committed men and women led by the late Pastor (Dr) R. George at Iwaya, Yaba Lagos, has transformed into a divine legacy that has today assumed a global dimension. It all began with Brother Reuben Akinwalere George (later Pastor (Dr
) R. George), a member of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) and a dynamic leader of the Christ Army Band of the CAC then at 83, Lagos Street, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, who had always felt a deep conviction of the call of God on his life.Thus in 1956, they started first as a small fellowship and Bible Study Group led by Brother R.A.George at his residence at No 9, Omotola Street, Iwaya Yaba, Lagos. The fellowship group then included the late Sister Dupe George, Brothers David Akinremi, Meshack Akinola, Iwaku J. Bagere, Daniel Aluko, Olusegun George, Elijah Oludele Abina, and Elkanah Obideyi. The other members of the group were Brothers Solomon Kudoro, Richard Godonu Akapo, one Mrs. Dorcas Adeyemi,Sisters Mary Kudoro, Felicia Akinremi (later Matron Felicia Abina), Janet Oke, Dupe Oju (later Dupe Akapo), among others. The Church began to grow, and later moved to her first building at 22, Balogun Street also in Iwaya and from there, gradually spread to Bariga, Mushin, Salvation Army Road in Ibadan, and the rest of the world. Pastor George was ordained as Pastor in 1959 and he transited into glory in 1987 after which his deputy all along at the time, Pastor (Dr) E.O. Abina took over the mantle of leadership in the same 1987. It is worthy of note that The Gospel Faith Mission International became an incorporated body in Nigeria in October 1967. The first Annual Convention held at 22, Balogun Street, Iwaya from 4th to 7th November1966. Attendance then was 300 and there was free feeding for participants. The convention now holds at the Mission’s campground, Gospel Town, along Igbo Oloyin Road, Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria since 1990. GOFAMINT International Office is situated at Gospel City, Kilometer 40, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Aseese, Ogun State. While the National Office remains at International Gospel Centre, Ojoo, Oyo Road, Ibadan, Oyo State. AGODO – family Assembly (A GOD Own family Church) is one of the local assemblies established in 2013. Situated in Agodo Alara Estate of Ogijo Community, Ogijo Area with the Area Hq at Odongunyan near Ikorodu and of Gofamint Region 24 with the regional headquarters at Itamaga, Lagos. By the reason of many members of Glorious Assembly-Odongunyan residing in Agodo Community, couple with difficulties of getting to the church on time especially during the raining season as a result of bad roads infrastructures, the difficulties challenged the members to seize the opportunity to look for a land for fellowship inside the community. With the vigorous pursuit of Evangelist Agboola and commitment of some devoted members, a land was purchased in 2010 at the cost of N1.2m by Glorious Assembly. Upon creation of OGIJO Area in Oct. 2012, the first evangelism month after the birth of the Area (February 2013) usher in the crusade on the land by The Area Gospel Evangelical Team (GET) led by the 1st Area Evangelist (Pastor Samuel Olubayo) and the then 1st Area Pastor (Tunde Akintajuwa). By February 24, 2013, the 1st Fellowship took place inside the IDEAL STAR SCHOOL (a private school adjacent to the newly acquired land for the Assembly)
In August 2014, an ordained Minister was posted to the Fellowship as Minister in Charge who later became the pioneer Pastor in Charge. The pioneer pastor laid the foundation of the Assembly’s building with his team (of course, with the support of notable members of the mother Church -Glorious Assembly-Odongunyan)
As the secular job was becoming more demanding for the pioneer Pastor, he called for excuse while requesting for another man of God to come and carry on the vision of the assembly. After a careful consideration with the leading of the Holy Spirit, The Area EXCOM posted one of its members to the Assembly in May/2015. This Man of God continues from where the pioneer pastor stops and takes the Assembly to where it is today. Later transformed to AGODO family ASSEMBLY (A GOD Own family Church) partially moved out of the private School into their mini-Auditorium on 30th August 2015 - the mini auditorium project took exactly 90 days (to the glory of God and admiration of people around)
The Main Auditorium project commence in October of the same 2015; roofed in April 2016; FELLOWSHIP/SERVICES commence on 22 May, 2016;
The internal decoration/furnishing/fittings completed in April 2017 - with functional offices for:
- Intercessory Prayers
- The Pastor,
- Sunday(Bible)School (SBS Secretariat)
- Ushers' functions
- Engines/Equipment. Perimeter fencing also completed with good parking space for safety. The Auditorium dedicated to the Glory of Almighty God on February 18th 2018 by Pastor Peter Olaoluwa Awodimila on behalf of the General Overseer Pastor (Dr.) Praise Yee The Lord.
