DON'T DEFILE THE LAND

📖 *READ: LEVITICUS 18:17-30*

17▪ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.

18▪ Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.

19▪ Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.

20▪ Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.

21▪ And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.

22▪ Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

23▪ Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

24▪ Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

25▪ And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

26▪ Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:

27▪ (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)

28▪ That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

29▪ For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

30▪ Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.

🔑📖```KEY VERSE:``` _*"For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled; That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you" (LEVITICUS 18:27, 28).*_

Two evil friends who specialised in robbing accident victims enjoyed their "vocation" for some time. They usually rushed to accident sites and while the victims struggled between life and death, they dispossessed them of their valuables. But one night, though they lived miles apart from each other, a strange thunder struck and killed them both. The land "spued" them out of it.

The occupants of the land of Canaan had defiled the land with evil practices. Their iniquity which was not yet full as at the time of Abraham (Genesis 15:16) has blossomed and multiplied, and the judgment must now come as God would root them out and replace them with Israel.

Sin has "motion"; it has "life" which sets things working against the sinner. The earth does not operate independently of the righteous laws of God and the law of sowing and reaping must apply in all spheres of a man's life. It is no news today that evils of all forms such as bribery, r**e, ritual killings, kidnapping, etc., have become rampant in all parts of the world and carried out even in broad day light. But like the two evil friends, those who delight in it, will eventually be marked for destruction, except they repent.

The average sinner today does not know that the horrors of hell must be avoided. Truth is, anyone who dies in sin will be greeted with, "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41). The only way out is to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

📜THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: *LAMENTATIONS 1-3*📜

*MEDITATION*

*The fruits of defiling the land*

*1. Funs that defile the land*
a. Abominable marriages, vv17,18. This include marrying someone with his/her near blood relations. It is called an abomination, v27.
b. All types of unlawful immoral relationships, including fornication and adultery, vv19, 10. Relationship with a woman during her me**es is part of ceremonial laws not forbidden in the NT as long as it is between legally married couple. Spiritually, it includes all sexual uncleaness or perversion.
c. Idol worship including worship of money, pleasure etc., v21.
d. Homosexuality and lesbianism, v22.
e. Be******ty, v23.
All these, including newly invented related sins, are called abominations by God, vv27,29,30.

*Observation* The modern man don't see these as evils anymore but an exercise of their fundamental freedom and rights. In entertainment industry, they are called fun globally. Ironically they deny them of freedom from satanic bondages and their ordained rights to receive the mercy and enter the kingdom of God. Stay clear.

*Question*
a. Are you free from all forms of lusts and sexual perversions and uncleaness? Don't destroy yourself 🤷‍♂️
b. Why does the Bible commanded "Flee fornication (sexual pervertions)?

*2. The fruits of defiling the land*
GOD called them abominations and there are fruits (bitter) of abominable practices.
a. Those involved in heart and action will be "cast out", v24. This include untimely death and inability to access the blessings of the land and suffering in the midst of plenty.
b. The Lord will "visit" those involved with Judgement, v25. This comes in different ways. The populace will generally be experiencing tough times in the land as opposed to peace and prosperity, v28.
c. Avoidable and uncommon deaths and things that lead to sudden deaths of the citizens, v29.

*Questions*
a. What are the things that fast track deaths in the land? Is your land free from those things?
b. There are some people Jesus promised to "spue out of His mouth" in Revelation 3:16. Who are they?

The only way to turn around the situation for good is personal and cooperate repentance with all forms sins and active resistance and rejection of such vices in the society.

*Prayer points*
Ask God to purge your heart and life from every form of sexual pollutions🙏
Ask the Lord to strengthen your will never to succumb to any form of sexual uncleaness 🙏
Ask for the Spirit of conviction of sin and repentance, with the fear of God, to visit His church 🙏
Ask God to visit your land with the spirit of repentance and supplication in His mercy and purifying fire🙏

📜TEXT:JOB 21:22-34📜

🔑📖```KEY VERSE:``` _*"Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high" (JOB 21:22).*_

Things are not always what we expect them to be. Irrespective of how prepared we are to face life, situations may arise that would severely test our staying power, and prove how resolute we are in standing with God.

None was ever tested in history like Job. He suffered a deluge of calamities and disasters. Yet, in spite of the misfortunes that befell him, he never doubted God's sovereignty and superior understanding. He recognised that God is the ultimate judge of all men, including the mighty. Men may work hard, prosper greatly, live the good life by the standards of the world, and die peacefully in ripe old age but they would end up in the dust like every other man. Indeed, the wicked who are mighty in this life would suffer eternal destruction for their evil deeds.

What bothered Job most though, were the wrong thoughts and devices of his friends, who concluded that he was suffering because of his sins. In frustration, he queried them: "How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?"

When troubles arise in life, especially those that are inexplicable, we must realise that it is a time to show our true attitude towards God. We must never yield to the temptation to become angry and bitter at God and everyone else, or relapse into self-pity. We must continue to trust God. Even when those who should know better wrongfully accuse us, we should understand that ultimate vindication awaits those who trust in God. So, when you are tried, ensure you shine forth as gold.

*MEDITATION*

*Important truth about death which is often forgotten*

Job in vv22-26 outlines some truth about death that is often forgotten by man in reality.

1. Death is a reality in human experiences.
2. It does not respect social status in the society. It is a leveller.
3. It does not respect spiritual status as both religious and irreligious can die at any time.
4. It does not respect educational status because both educated and illiterates can die at any time.
5. It has no respect for marital status as those who are married, single or about wedding can die at anytime.
6. It does not respect plans or vision as anybody can die before the actualization of his/her plan or visions.
7. It does not respect age. Anybody can die at anytime whether young or old. Even a day old can die.
8. It does not respect time as it can strike at any time with or without warning.
9. The bodies of all the dead are eaten by worms irrespective of the way and the manner the dead is buried.
10. The imminence of death often dawns on people only when they attend a burial, someone die or there is a near death experience.
11. The consciousness of imminence of death by people is mostly mental and not in their inner consciousness.
12. After death, everybody, including servants, masters, slaves, the greats, the sane, the insane, etc. becomes equal before God.
13. Nobody carries anything, including their bodies with them after death.
14. Nobody voluntarily decides to die with the death regardless of their relationships on earth.
15. Death is the beginning of another more real new life either in hell or in heaven. The choice is left for man.
16. So none can defeat death in the final analysis except those who are in Christ, the only person who had defeated death by resurrection.

Lord Jesus, thank you for conquering death, both physical and spiritual, on the cross for believers 👏🙏
Lord, while I no longer live in the fear of death by your grace, help me to number my days and apply my heart to wisdom 🙏
Lord, let not the vanities of this world blind my mind to the reality of imminent death🙏
Help your children to live as if tomorrow may not be for them🙏

TRUST IN THE LORD
TEXT: PSALM 118:5-14

*📖 READING
*PSALMS 118:5-14

[5]I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

[6]The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

[7]The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

[8]It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

[9]It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

[10]All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.

[11]They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

[12]They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

[13]Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me.

[14]The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.

🔑📖```KEY VERSE:``` _*"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man" (PSALM 118:8).*_

In our daily engagements and activities, it is imperative that we repose confidence in someone or something. We do not think twice before boarding an aircraft. We are confident that the pilot will do his work competently, and will get us to our destination. The problem starts when we are confronted by situations that require that we put our confidence in God. This, itself, is an act of faith.

The psalmist is convinced that God is good and merciful. When he faced a distressing situation therefore, he cried to the Lord who answered promptly. He knew that God was on his side, and there was no need to be afraid of what men might do to him. From experience, the psalmist knew that it was better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. He believed that in the name of the Lord, he would vanquish all those forces that had gathered against him. He was sorely pressured by the enemy in the hope that he would fall. But God came to his rescue. No wonder he saw God as his strength, song and salvation.

We must recognise that it is a waste of time to trust men more than God. It is a contradiction for us to turn to man when trials and troubles arise. We trust God because His love is eternal, His mercy is unmerited, His compassion is unfailing, His promises are certain and His gifts are good and perfect. All you need to do is to ensure that there is no disagreement between you and the Lord, for then your confidence in Him will never be in vain.

✍🏽```THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:``` _*God delivers those who trust in Him during adversity.*_

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:*EZRA 7-10*

*MEDITATION*

*What is at the centre of the Bible?*

1. "There are exactly 594 chapters before Psalm 118, and exactly 594 chapters after it. When you add the number of chapters before Psalms 118 and those after, the sum is 1,118. And the verse at the very *center of the Bible is Psalms 118:8"*
2. "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man", Psalm 118:8.
a. This verse is at the centre of the Bible in terms of location in the Holy Bible.
b. It's message is what is central to christian or godly living.
c. It shows that confidence and trust can be used interchangeably.
d. It shows if you are to make a choice between confidence in yourself and God, it is better you trust God and His word more that yourself, ability and what your mind is telling you.
e. If you are to choose between the words of man, including great men, and words of God, it pays to choose what God says and trust it.
f. If you want to receive anything from God, then you must put confidence or trust in God and His word. No alternative.
g. Which experience from God can you receive without trust in God?
h. How can you successfully and righteously navigate through this world of sin without full confidence or trust in God?
i. Salvation, sanctification, Holy Ghost power, victory over Satan and all enemies, experiencing supernatural power of God etc. all come by the hearing of faith and putting your trust in what God and His word says and never in what your mind, man or enemy says. Read Galatians 3:5.
j. Remove confidence or trust in God from your life and your life turns to ordinary with no supernatural experience. Without trust in God the Bible loses its power.
k. Lack of faith in God and His word makes you a mere religionist without the power of God. Faith is central and it makes Christianity different from all religions.
l. Faith in His death, resurrection, power, etc are indispensable. If the devil want to deal with you, he first removes or steal your faith or trust in God.
m. So guard and develop your faith in God and His word, Romans 10:17.
n. No matter how dark, delayed and demonised the day is, never allow your faith to be stolen. That is central to all your blessings from God.

*Question*
What do you trust more, your brain or the word of God? Your feelings or what God says about you? Your friends or foes or what God says.

*Prayer points*
Give praise to God because all men and feelings can fail but what God says will never fail🙏
Ask God for grace to build up your faith in the word of God above all else🙏
Ask for ever increasing faith through the help of the Holy Spirit and the word of God🙏
Pray that our faith will rise up to receive His miracles during this crusade🙏
