Today's Proverb
A man who prays for floods to wash away his enemies must first teach his own children how to swim
The proverb means that when a person wishes for destruction, revenge, or chaos to fall upon others, they must also prepare themselves and their family for the consequences that come with that same disaster.
Floods do not choose enemies only. Water enters every house in its path.
It is a warning against reckless hatred, selfish ambition, and dangerous plans. Many people pray for the downfall of others without realizing that every storm carries risk for everyone nearby.
Before calling for war, conflict, or ruin, wisdom demands preparation, responsibility, and foresight.
In deeper terms, the proverb teaches:
💫Every action has collateral consequences.
💫Bitterness can destroy both the hunter and the hunted.
💫Wise people prepare their homes before inviting chaos into the village.
“Do not light a fire in the forest unless your own hut is built from stone.”
