A SHORT NARRATION ON THE WAR IN HEAVEN 6

‘God, I defy you. I shall ascend to your throne and pitch mine right on top of it. I shall… I shall be called Lord Lucifer by the time you lose reign’, Lucifer snarled.

‘The Lord rebuke you’, thundered Michael as he smote the ground with his sword. Shockwaves of indignation rushed from his chest into his sword and through his sword to the smitten ground. The ground tore open creating a gaping space between the two warring sides. Michael and his troops shouted again and again until the space between himself and Lucifer became a quaking war front.

‘Attack!’ Michael roared as he glided with a speed many times that of light across the wide space between his troop and Lucifer’s. The space between the two forces led to far away down from heaven. While Michael and his troops glided across the empty space, Lucifer and his troops waited on the other end because their crafting did not support such a manoeuvre.

As Michael and his troops fell on Lucifer and his army, it was like two contrary tides smashing against each other. There were tremors, thunderings, lightnings, ripped wings, dented frames as Michael and his troops steadily vanquished Lucifer and His troops.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: TUESDAY 23RD APRIL 2019

THEME: DEADLY GENEROSITY.

MEMORISE:

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. Proverbs 6:1-2

READ: Genesis 43:1-10

1And the famine was sore in the land.

2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

4 If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

5 But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

6 And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

7 And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

8 And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

10 For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

MESSAGE

A guarantor is someone who voluntarily becomes the legal Surety for another person's debts or responsibilities. He or she is a person who undertakes to ensure that an agreed future event takes place. A guarantor also comes to the aid of someone else to meet a need at a cost which involves a great deal of personal risk. In Proverbs 17:18 and proverbs 22-26, the Bible teaches against standing as Surety for friends and acquaintances. These passages indicate that anyone who offers himself or herself as Surety for debts is a foolish person without understanding. Following common occurrences around the world today, it is only advisable to stand as guarantor for members of your immediate family. Based on God's understanding of human nature, the Bible views the role of a guarantor as a form of deadly generosity. God knows that the guarantor will always be left in a vulnerable position and is bound to suffer loss in the long run. God did not take this position only because of his knowledge of human nature, but also because of Christ's first-hand experience as the ultimate guarantor of Mankind's salvation. Hebrews 4:15 says:

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Having suffered so much to obtain our Salvation, Jesus knows that it will be difficult for any human being to survive the disappointments and pain that comes with being a surety.

The Old Testament records one incident relating to someone standing Surety for another. In it, Judah stood as a guarantor for Benjamin, to save Jacob's family from starvation (Genesis 43:9, Genesis 44:32). Similarly, Jesus is the only person in the New Testament who stands as a guarantor. Hebrews 7:22 says:

“By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.”

Jesus is the mediator of the Covenant between God and His people, and He is also its guarantor God's promise are all guaranteed in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). Knowing the consequences of standing as Surety for anyone, Jesus willingly chose to stand for us because of the love he has for us. He paid the price of His life and today he sits in heaven as the one who guarantees the term of the New Covenant that Grant's us access to the family of God. How generous He is! Jesus is still offering His extravagant generosity to all today, and it is an offer of love. Accept it today and your life will never be the same again!

ACTION POINT:

Give God thanks for His extravagant generosity in making you a partaker of His new covenant.

HYMN 9: IN CHRIST ALONE

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

THEME: YOU NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT.

MEMORISE:

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

READ: Matthew 26:37-41

37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

MESSAGE

Journeying through this world as a Christian in this end times without the help of the Holy Spirit is such an impossible task. Unfortunately, many Christian lack knowledge of the important roles He pays in ensuring that we make it to heaven. Some do not even believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. One cannot run the Christian race without having a relationship with God in the place of prayer. The question is, how much prayer is needed to enable us successfully reach the finish line of our heavenly race? From today’s memory verse, the answer is that we ought to pray without ceasing! How is this possible? We do not have the capacity to pray for long periods, nor do we even know how to pray as we ought, so how do we pray without ceasing? Well, it is possible only with the help of our tireless ally, the Holy Spirit. Revealing this truth, Romans 8:26 says:

“ Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

With the realization that the Holy Spirit is needed to make our journey to heaven successful, if I were you, I would desire to have Him on my side at all times. Moreover, you need to be conscious of the fact that the Holy Spirit is a person and not a force. He therefore has emotions! Some things make Him happy, while some things can grieve Him (Isaiah 63:7-14). When He is grieved, He withdraws Himself. For this reason, Ephesians 4:30says:

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

The Holy spirit is grieved when we live contrary to the life and principles of Jesus Christ, who made Him His representative in us till he returns (John 13:14).

Today, as the Lord said to peter in Matthew 26:41, He also says to you:

“ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Without the Holy spirit, you cannot watch and pray effectively, leaving you prone to be overcome by temptations in the face of adversities. God forbid that you fall away from the faith in Jesus’ Name. The antidote to this is effective prayer aided by the Holy spirit. Today, if you have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to spend some time praying in the Spirit. If you have not partaken of this experience, I encourage you to tarry in God’s presence today and ask the Lord to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. You can also seek the help of a true and trusted member of the Body of Christ to lead you into this free gift of God.

PRAYER POINT:

Holy Spirit Divine, fill me afresh today and strengthen my prayer life like never before.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: MONDAY 25TH MARCH 2019

THEME: SINNER TURNED SAINT.

MEMORISE:

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1Timothy 1:15

READ: 1 John 1:7-10

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

MESSAGE

Some people make defeatist statements about sin in order to justify their sinful lifestyle. Such people admit that everyone born of a woman is a sinner, but they hypocritically ignore the fact that has made provision available to turn every sinner into a saint by the power of atonement in the Blood of Jesus. One of the foremost apostles of Jesus Christ, Paul, in today’s memory verse affirms that a sinner can become a saint if he or she is willing to be transformed. The unwillingness of a sinner to be transformed into a saint through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ is what condemns him or her to eternal damnation. John 3:18-19 says:

“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

God is not interested in condemning anyone, and this is why He says to all in Isaiah 1:18-19:

“ Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”

Jesus is still calling all those who labor and are heavy laden under the yoke of sin to come to him for rest (Matthew 11:28). When anyone comes to Jesus with a repentant heart and cry for mercy, He will abundantly pardon their sins (Isaiah 55:7). It is therefore important for people to take responsibility for their sins in order to receive pardon. Many people shift the blame for their sinful lifestyle to everything but themselves. Instead of acknowledging and confessing their sins and deciding to abandon the sinful act that have held them bound or so long, they keep making excuses. For example, some thieves and harlots will blame their sinful lifestyle on the economic recession in their country. If you have been wallowing in sin and passing the blame, I invite you today to come to Jesus Christ for pardon and experience a pleasant turnaround. In prayer, acknowledge and confess all your sins, asking Jesus to cleanse you with His Blood and to receive you into His family. Also, promise Him never to go back to your old lifestyle again. If you do this, Christ will cleanse you and transform you into a new creature in him as He promised in 2 Corinthians 5:17.

READ:
Acts 22:1-10

1Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

2 (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

5 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

10 And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

MESSAGE:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:6-8

The above verse beautifully captures the extent of Christ’s sacrifice in order to bring salvation to all of mankind. Even though He was He was God, he brought Himself low for the purpose of extending His mercy to all sinners, irrespective of how much evil they had done. Speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Luke 1:78-79, Zechariah described Christ as salvation brought to us through the tender mercy of God:

“Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

This salvation did not come to us as a reward for any good deeds on our part: rather, it is a gift given to us by God’s mercy, through the spotless righteousness of Christ when a sinner realizes that he or she is in a hopeless situation, condemned to eternal death and in incapable of doing anything to change the situation, and he or she comes in faith to receive a new beginning from Jesus Christ, the merciful Savior, this person is ushered into a new covenant with God. One of the articles of this new covenant which begins to work in the life of such a fellow is described in Hebrew 8:12, which says:

“ For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

How marvelous is the mercy of our God to wash away our past into the sea of forgetfulness!

Salvation is the exclusive prerogative of God alone; there no human effort involved in securing it. So then, it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God who shows mercy (Romans 9:16). God has worked out everything in our favor through Jesus Christ His Son. He has shown us His mercy by granting us salvation, making it available for all mankind, irrespective of race, color, language or culture. The least you can do to express your gratitude to Him is to accept His love and mercy today by giving your life to Jesus, proclaiming Him as your Lord and Savior. When you do this, He will give you peace, joy and eternal life.

ACTION POINT:
Express your gratitude for the mercy of God you have received by telling someone about it today.

THEME: FLEE ALL APPEARANCES OF EVIL.
MEMORISE:
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Romans 12:9
READ: I Corinthians 6:12-20
12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
MESSAGE
In 1 Thessalonians 5:22, the Holy Spirit is very clear in warning all those who profess to belong to the family of God to stay away from everything that appears to be evil. This instruction is not ambiguous, neither is it complicated nor difficult to understand. However, we need to understand what constitutes the appearance of evil, and what the Christian standard for evaluating godliness is.
A genuine Christian should not have any problem accepting the only standard for living that the Almighty God Himself has set before us, which is the Holy Bible. In several of its passages, this Book of books clearly states those things that constitute the appearance of evil. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 gives this account of the origin and purpose of the Bible saying:
“ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
Unfortunately, some misguided Christians believe that the Bible is no longer suitable for making moral judgments in this modern age. Those with such views cannot stand the test of time, and their faith will surely suffer shipwreck. Once the authority of the Bible is established as the infallible, inerrant, inspired word of God that contains everything necessary to direct the life of a child of God unto perfection, the rest is easy. Those who accept the authority of the Bible will recognize it as the standard to prove all things evaluate godliness and determine the morality of any action.
In addition to obeying the explicit commandments of God, the Holy Spirit also admonishes us to avoid anything that looks like evil and to keep away from questionable activities. To this effect, Philippians 4:8 says:
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
In your daily walk with God, this verse should serve as a benchmark for you to determine what constitutes the appearance of evil. We are to set our minds on things that are honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report. If you are wise, you will recognize that the Holy spirit knows better than you do, and so when He says flee, you will flee instead of trying to cope with any appearance of evil!
ACTION POINT:
Make up your mind to accept the standard of the Bible as your ultimate guide in life.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL
DATE: THURSDAY 14TH FEBRUARY 2019
THEME: UNITED IN REBELLION?
MEMORISE:
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. Proverbs 11:21
READ: Genesis 11:1-6
1And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
MESSAGE
While it is good to walk in unity with others through any venture in life, any form of unity that runs contrary to the perfect will of God in counterproductive. Because of this truth, whenever there is a call to unite over anything, you must first find out what type of cause it is and what kind of unity is being called for. Uniting with people blindly can cause you untold agony. This is what happened to King Jehoshaphat who formed an unholy alliance with the idolatrous King Ahab (1 Kings 22). It was only the mercy of God that spared Jehoshaphat from becoming a victim of the untimely death that was reserved for another man. When people unite to actualize anything that is contrary to the will of God, it is a rebellious alliance. The unfortunate thing about rebellious alliances of the ungodly is that they will always end in frustration and shame, just as it happened at the Tower of Babel. God’s mandate to mankind was to replenish the whole earth and subdue it (Genesis 1:28, Isaiah 45:18), but they chose at that point to build a city and a tower with a motive that was contrary to God’s mandate for them. Hear what they said to themselves in Genesis 11:4:
“And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
They united to rebel against the divine purpose and God had to intervene so that His original plan could be achieve. This is why their unitary language had to be confounded.
The example of the Tower of Babel teaches us a good number of lessons, first of which is that whenever people gather to rebel against God and godliness, God always knows about it. I pray that the Almighty God will always reveal the evil plans of your enemies to you in Jesus’ Name. Secondly, God does not only expose evil conspiracies, He also acts against them. I decree that those who are united against the purpose of God for your life shall be confounded and their purpose shall be defeated in Jesus’ Name. One example of evil conspiracy is the alliance of Ahithophel and Absalom against David (2 Samuel 15:12). David prayed that God should overturn Ahithophel’s evil counsel, and He did (2 Samuel 15:31; 2 Samuel 17:23). A third lesson for us is that when God arises to foil the plans of those who diabolically unite Him and His people, the enemies are left confused and in disarray. Beloved, are you uniting in rebellion with others? Please stop it. Never align yourself with rebels. Let these words of Proverb 1:10 guide you in this regard:
“My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.”
ACTION POINT:
Examine the company you keep. If their activities are rebellious, part ways with them and keep company with the people of God.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: John 11
Isaiah 39:1-40:8
AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE
HYMN 3: TRUST AND OBEY.
1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
o Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
