ADUMBRATION AND THE MYSTERY OF JESUS CHRIST AS LAMB
Adumbration is the act of providing vague advance indications; representing beforehand.
"The LORD said, "Go get Isaac, your ONLY SON , the one you dearly LOVE!" - Gen. 22:2
βFor God so LOVED, he gave his ONLY begotten SON...β John 3:16
The key words in both is SON, LOVE & ONLY.
Abraham prophetic statement in
Gen. 22:8
"And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb.."
In that word, it does not literally mean, "God will provide himself a lamb" , BUT meant God will make himself the lamb for the sacrifice.
So, when Jesus was born, John the apostle in John chapter 1 introduced Jesus as God in establishing that fact already, progress further to introduce another John the baptist in the scene who in seeing Jesus said
"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." John 1:29,36.
These establishes a sequence and chronology (order and time)
This is where the adumbration comes in. And in the 3rd (Three being the number of resurrection) there have to be a full manifestation
First in Revelations 13:8
"... the Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world".
Jesus was the lamb God used as insurance against the fall of man, before he created the world.
Secondly, Abraham prophetic declarations of God providing himself a lamb, for which a lamb appeared from no where in a desert area where historically Sheep π don't graze, indicate a miraculous manifestation of divine providence
Thirdly And lastly, The Manifestation of the lamb with special attention on John's gospel.
The ADUMBRATION manifestation is in Luke.
Lambs are given birth to in manger. And reason if truly Jesus is the lamb, he MUST BE BORN with sheep, in midst of sheep.
"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn" - Luke 2:7
God Sacrificed Jesus as the lamb slain from the foundation of the world - Rev. 13:8, God asked Abraham to give his ONLY son Isaac on an Altar made of wood for burnt sacrifices, so, that there would be an adumbration a pattern for him to follow and Abraham in that faith giving of Isaac said God will provide himself a lamb and in John and the gospel God fulfilled the types already given in the old testament.
If he was not born, he would never have died on the cross. The baby Jesus is a full grown adult, preparing to come not as lamb, but as the Lion π¦ of the tribe of Judah and take vengeance.
We celebrate a living icon who came, lived, died and resurrected bodily as Isaac was received in a bodily form by faith. Jesus lives forever. Reason we celebrate him.
Are you on the Lord's side?
Have you received him?
Don't Let this Christmas testify against you on judgement day, but testify for you.
Merry Christmas
