*THE BREAD OF LIFE TODAY -- 22/08/2024*

*Proverbs 8:10-11*

"Receive my instruction, and not silver; And knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; And all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it".

*INSPIRATION ON TODAY'S VERSE*

Wisdom speaks candidly and plainly. *In verses 10-11*, she invites the “sons of man” to pursue her over wealth. She invites mankind to value her above riches. Knowing that the human race is infatuated with making money and lots of it, she plainly puts her value higher than that which we value the most.

Wisdom is better than jewels, better than money. You think about how much you might desire more money or more things, more possessions, nicer possessions, and God is saying wisdom is infinitely better than this. All that you may desire.

In particular, those who pursue wealth and worldliness at all costs will be left without hope. Those who seek righteousness not only benefit their own lives, they are a blessing to others. Their generosity helps their neighbor, and in return they can expect help in times of crisis. Better seek wisdom and not gold and silver -- not wealth and riches.

*MY PRAYER*

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ dwells all the wisdom of the Godhead bodily, and I am part of His spiritual Body and one with Him, by faith. I pray that I would be granted wisdom to choose the good and eschew the evil. May my life be rooted in Him so deeply, that His mind will influence my actions, attitudes, words, and behaviour, so that Christ is seen in me. To His praise and glory, *AMEN*🙏🙏🙏

*ALIVE IN CHRIST:*

*Today's Scripture*

*"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)..." (Ephesians 2:4-5)*

*Daily Truth*

At the border of the cross, dead things cross over to life. And not just a barely-getting-by kind of life, but an overflowing-with-abundance kind of life!

We once were dead in sins and trespasses. We walked hand in hand with the evil in this world. We were governed by selfish desires and were headed for God’s wrath.

Even in this sinful state, God sent Jesus to die and rise again for us. At the border of the cross, God quickens the dead. He makes us alive in Christ!

We rise up to walk with Him. We now live and move and find our very existence in Christ Jesus. We are His offspring, the God-created. We owe our every breath to Him. He shows us what it means to truly experience a full-to-the-brim life of abundance.

In fact, *Ephesians 3:20* tells us that God will do “exceedingly abundantly” above all that we could ask or think according to the power that is already at work in us. That same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now works in us. That power will accomplish more than we can even imagine. We once were dead, but we now are alive!

*Today's Blessing*

Beloved Jesus, thank You for coming while I was dead in sin and filling me up with abundant life! Thank You for that resurrection power now working in me. Help me dream big for You. In Your name. Amen.

TODAY'S DEVOTION & PRAYER

TODAY'S DEVOTION:

Reflecting on the Names and Nature of God.

JESUS: THE ROOT AND OFFSPRING OF DAVID:

"I am the Root and the Offspring of David". Revelation 22:16

Jesus is the Root and Offspring of David, the greatest king of Israel. Just as a tree gets strength and life from its roots, so David’s accomplishments and strength came from Jesus. Just as David derived everything from Jesus, so your spiritual vitality comes from Him. You were born again when Christ came into your heart, so your spiritual life comes from Him.

Lord, I know that my spiritual life comes from You; help me never to forget where my strength lies.

Jesus is the Root and Offspring of David. Jesus was not only David’s source of strength, but He also was born into David’s line. Jesus has the legitimate title to David’s throne. Because of being born in the line of David, Jesus is qualified to fulfill all the Messianic prophecies for the salvation of every Israelite and for the nation as a whole. Look to Him for all your needs. Jesus is the Root and Offspring of David, which means that He was the “Son of David” (Matthew 1:1). When David wrote the Psalms, he called the coming Messiah “the Lord” (Psalm 110:1 & 5). Just as Jesus was the Lord of David, so He wants to be your Lord. Will you submit to Him today?

Lord, You are the Root from which I get my life; I am Your offspring. But more important, You are my Lord; I will serve You this day. Amen.

Go Deeper: Revelations 22:12-21

Will you submit to the Lordship of Jesus, as David did?

TODAY'S PRAYER:

Dear Lord Jesus,

There are days when I feel weak and uninspired.
And there are days when I am full of the life and hope that You have given to me.
Please help me to remember that my strength comes from You...
But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
He is their strength in the time of trouble.
Psalm 37:39
Please give me wisdom and grant me good health and spiritual strength to continue the path that You have placed before me.
You are the foundational root of nourishment for my life.
I desire to remain steadfast and tapped into Your strength as I face what may come.
Thank You for loving me, saving me, carrying me, and giving me hope.

In Jesus' holy name I pray,

Amen.

TODAY'S DEVOTION & PRAYER

TODAY'S DEVOTION:

Reflecting on the Names and Nature of God

THE HOLY SPIRIT: THE LORD OF THE HARVEST

"The harvest truly is plentiful,
but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest". Matthew 9:37-38

The Holy Spirit is the Lord of the Harvest; the harvest is His. Too often we think that the harvest is ours, but the Holy Spirit wants us to work for Him in the harvest of bringing others to Jesus. Because there are many people who are not following Jesus, the fields are white for harvest (John 4:35). When we tell people the good news of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will work in their hearts to convict them of sin. Then He will open their spiritually blinded eyes to see the gospel, and He will draw them to salvation. Will you work in the harvest today and let the Holy Spirit work through you? You can do that by sharing the gospel with someone.

Holy Spirit, I feel Your urging in my heart to be more active in evangelism. I will witness to someone today. Help me to communicate the gospel to someone. Work in the hearts of those to whom I witness.

The Holy Spirit is the Lord of the Harvest. When people believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit regenerates their hearts (John 3:5) and places eternal life in them. But most important, since it is His harvest, He preserves the fruit by indwelling the new believers with His presence to guarantee that they receive all the blessings that the Father has promised to them.

Holy Spirit, You are Lord of the Harvest! I cannot accomplish anything without Your working through me. I yield to Your leading. Use me today, as I testify to others of my salvation. Amen.

Go Deeper: Matthew 9:35-10:26

The Holy Spirit works through you to win people to salvation.

TODAY'S PRAYER:

Dear Father God,

More and more I am concerned with my physical fitness and good health.

And what about my spiritual fitness?

I know You made me and You want me to take care of my body, and more important is my spiritual health.

Paul wrote to Timothy...

"Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and life to come". 1 Timothy 4:7-8).

Please help me to work on strengthening my faith in addition to strengthening my body.

Let me be pleasing to You and a good witness to those around me.

I want to grow closer to You and I want to bring others with me.

Lord, please anoint me for You service today.

In Jesus’ powerful name I pray,

Amen.

TODAY'S DEVOTION & PRAYER

TODAY'S DEVOTION:

Reflecting on the Names and Nature of God

JESUS: A NAME NO ONE KNEW

"He had a name written that no one knew except Himself". Revelation 19:12

Jesus has a Name No One Knew. This means that no one knows His hidden name, not even you. Even though you may want to know His secret name, you can’t know it, because He has not told anyone—some things only God knows. At His return, there will still be a mystery about Jesus’ nature that you cannot understand. Why? Because no finite human can comprehend the infinite God. So don’t worry about what you don’t know; rather, respond quickly to what you do know about Jesus’ names.
His name is “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)—and those are only a few of His names found in only one verse in the Bible.

Jesus, I realize I can’t know, nor will I ever know, all about You; but I know I worship You as King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16).

Jesus has a Name No One Knew. This means that there could be more than one name you don’t know. Just as His names that you know reveal the unique characteristics of Jesus, His unknowable names reflect things about Him that you can never know. That’s because Jesus is God and you are human. But trust what you know about Jesus, and obey what He wants you to do.

Jesus, I don’t know everything about You; but what I know, I love, I trust, I worship. I will obey You as my Master. Amen.

Go Deeper: Revelation 19:11-12

Focus on what the names of Jesus tell us about Him.

TODAY'S PRAYER:

Dear gracious, merciful and loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this new day.
Thank You for Your never-ending love and for your tender mercies that are new every morning...

"Through the Lord ’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness". Lamentations 3:22-23

I pray for those who are in need of a special touch from You.

I pray for those who are facing challenges, obstacles, consequences; those who need Your blessings today.

Please work in their lives, in their circumstances, in their hearts and minds to bring about good.

Please grant them favor, touch their hearts, move mountains if necessary, for You r will, Your glory, and Your blessing of those who need Your help.

May You be honored.
May lives be changed.
May souls be rescued.
May needs be met.
May we all have Your favor.
In the name of Jesus my Savior I pray,

Amen.
