Many believers today develop a thought first, then begin searching for verses to support that thought. That is not sound biblical interpretation. That is reading your mind into the scriptures instead of drawing meaning from the scriptures.
The duty of a believer is not to force the Bible to agree with his opinions, emotions, traditions, or experiences. Our duty is to allow the scriptures speak for themselves within their proper context, content, audience, grammar, and intent.
Second Timothy chapter 2 verse 15 says:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God… rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Scripture was never designed to be manipulated to defend personal bias. Many errors and false doctrines are born when people isolate verses from their context and make the Bible say what it never intended to say.
Second Peter chapter 1 verse 20 says:
“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”
The Berean believers were called noble in Acts chapter 17 verse 11 because they searched the scriptures daily to verify whether the teachings they heard were truly consistent with the written Word.
The scriptures already have a message.
The Bible has its own flow, context, grammar, historical setting, and doctrinal emphasis.
We do not stand above scripture to control its meaning.
We stand under scripture to receive its meaning.
A text taken out of context easily becomes a pretext for error.
Therefore, let the Word speak.
Let scripture interpret scripture.
Let doctrine rise from careful study, not emotional assumptions or denominational loyalty.
John chapter 17 verse 17 says:
“Thy word is truth.”
May we receive grace to approach God’s Word with humility, honesty, reverence, and sound understanding.
