LIVING FOR GOD DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Theme: Give In All Diligence
Date: Thursday, July 29, 2021
Bible Reading:
Colossians 3:23

Reference Text:
Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for human masters"

Reference Hymn
CCC Hymn 429 stanza 1
“Labour ye on, and seek ye no repose
Keep sowing seeds, the harvest now cometh
The eyes of the Lord are set on your works
cr. Holy Angels are now recording them
Be it good or be it evil
Thou shall be rewarded accordingly”

As we sojourn on earth, we will find ourselves involved in one activity or the other. This could be in our work place, community, or church amongst others. What is expected of us always is to ensure that we give all diligence with no sign of lackadaisical attitude whatsoever.

This should come with the understanding that what we are doing is not for man but for God. Amen.

Apostle Paul admonished the Colossians that they should work with all their heart anything that their hands find to do. What does this mean? They should thrive for success irrespective of how challenging that it might be and never be a mediocre. It implies that they should be responsible for the task with their active involvement and participation and never with a mentality that they have a little stake in it.

Give in all you could as if it is your personal and private business. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

While it may seem as if the reward is not forthcoming, know that God is not unrighteous that He would forget your labour of love and efforts. All that you need is perseverance and willingness to remain focus. May the good Lord help you to give in diligence to all that you do in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer Point:
Oh Lord, now I know that I need to show commitment in all that I do, help me in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

LIVING FOR GOD DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Theme: My Father’s Wish
Date: Thursday, August 15, 2019
Read: John 6:40

Reference Text:
John 6:40: “For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day”

Reference Hymn
CCC Hymn 183 stanzas 1
"Iye iye iye, ni ti wa
Oluwa Olufe
O fe ife iye si wa"
"Life Evermore,
We have life Evermore
Our loving God He is breathing
His breath of life on us"

In one of our recent studies, we submitted clearly that as believers, we have an assurance and guarantee which is linked directly to the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The assurance is that although we experience the first death, we are guaranteed resurrection just like Jesus resurrected from the grave. This is to strengthen us in our standing with God. Amen.

Today’s reading is however reinforcing that hope. It captures the words of our Lord Jesus Christ that it is not His own wish but that of the Father that anyone who looks unto Christ and believes in Him will have eternal life. What does it mean to look unto Christ? It means to see Him as the author and the finisher of your faith. That is, to continuously fix your eyes on Him knowing well that you cannot do without Him. This is like the bronze serpent the Israelites were to look up to when bitten by a snake.

The fact that man is always looking up to something raises a question of who are you looking up to?

Besides, looking unto Christ, you are also to believe in Him which involves holding the conviction that his death implies you have been dead to a life of sin while his resurrection means that you have been made alive unto righteousness. Amen. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer point: Oh Lord, now I know that your wish is that I have eternal life only if I can believe in your Son while I also look unto Him, help me Oh Lord in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Theme: The Food That Lasts
Date: Wednesday August 14, 2019
Read: John 6:27

Reference Text:
John 6:27: “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."

Reference Hymn
CCC Hymn 682
“I will do the will of the Father
I will do the will of the Father
No matter all the temptations
I will not leave Jesus alone”

There is need for every man to sincerely identify his vision. That is, what is driving him. There are two things. A man can be driven with the aspiration to fulfill God’s plan for his life or be driven to fulfil his own self-ambition.

Today’s reading brings to our awareness the difference between these two.

It is that anyone who pursues after his own will is only working for food which is temporal and that also spoils.

However, the food that the Son of man gives is the one that endures forever. Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ gives us an idea of what this is, when He said that His food is to do the will of the Father who sent Him.

Beloved, are you willing today to surrender to the will of the Father, or you still want to be going after your own wishes?

Remember that whosoever sows in the flesh will reap corruption.

Is it not high time you began to pursue God’s given vision for your life? Know that whatever that you pursue on this earth outside God’s plan will end in this world. May the good Lord help you to pursue His will all the days of your life in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer point: Oh Lord, now I know that going after my own will only results to food that spoils. Help me to do your will in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Theme: His Resurrection - Our Guarantee
Date: Tuesday, August 13, 2019
Read: 1 Corinthians 15:20

Reference Text:
1 Corinthians 15:20: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep”

Reference Hymn
CCC Hymn 183 stanzas 1
"Iye iye iye, ni ti wa
Oluwa Olufe
O fe ife iye si wa"
"Life Evermore,
We have life Evermore
Our loving God He is breathing
His breath of life on us"

In one of our recent studies, we submitted that our hope in Christ goes beyond this knowing well of a place and a crown that have been prepared for us. Amen.

Today’s reading brings to us another assurance of our relationship with Christ. Apostle Paul submits clearly that because Christ has been raised from the dead, we have the assurance of being raised from the dead if we experience the first dead. He is indeed the first fruit and pioneer in this regard.

While some argue that there have been so many incidences of resurrection e.g. Lazarus, the case of Christ is different as He has been buried in the grave for three days. This should therefore bring a consolation there is a great reward to our commitment here on earth.

We should not entertain any fear whatsoever knowing well that we have been guaranteed to live forever. Amen.

This however involves a continuous desire to be Christ-like in all that you do as you expressly reflect the fruits of the Spirit. Be also prepared to endure hardship as soldiers of Christ as you will be confronted with situations that seems too challenging. Know that surely the Lord will be with you just as He was with Joseph who did not compromise. It is through this life style that we will be able to reign forever with Christ. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer point: Oh Lord, now I know that, I have an assurance that although I experience the first death, I will surely resurrect with You on Your second coming, help me to remain steadfast in my walk

Theme: No Room for Laziness
Date: Monday, August 12, 2019
Read: 1 Corinthians 15:10

Reference Text:
1 Corinthians 15:10: “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me”

Reference Hymn
CCC Hymn 613

"Those who labour inherit heaven,
Prepare and work
O ye people,
The last period is approaching,
Thy work, thy work is observed there"

As we journey with Christ, one of the things that we need to know is that we need to maximize the grace that God will be bestowing on us to do exploit. This means that we would be doing more than we could ever imagined. Just like someone said, if I can only bite what I can chew, then maybe I will not need God but with Him on my side, I can bite more than I can chew.

Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians which we read this morning noted clearly that the grace of God was not without effect. That is, it was obvious, and he allowed the grace to work expressly in Him. We all could testify to that by the epistles that he wrote which are life-changing and remains powerful.

One could only imagine how he managed to sit and write those letters. He was fully persuaded and committed himself to God’s work. Remember that he even wrote the letters to Timothy while in prison.

Beloved, today’s message is to give you the necessary ‘kick’ and encouragement that you need to arise and make use of the grace that Christ has bestowed on you in whatever capacity that it might be. Do not be lazy by concluding in your heart that ‘God will surely do his work’. Know that it only who labours that will inherit heaven. May the good Lord help you in this regard to shun every laziness and arise to work in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer Point: Oh Lord, now I know that there is no room for laziness in your kingdom, help me to ma

Theme: Beyond this World
Date: Sunday, August 11, 2019
Read: 1 Corinthians 15:19

Reference Text:
1 Corinthians 15:19: “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied”

One of the crucial things that we need to know in our Christian walk is that our hope in Christ is that of a blessed one which is not of this world. That is, the reason that we are saying that Jesus is Lord goes beyond this present world.

Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians submits clearly that we are to be pitied if we do not have a life and assurance beyond this world.

This draws our attention to the fact that we have a life after this world. For although we may experience the first death, we will not experience the second one, but be raised in glory. Know that the death and resurrection of Christ gives us this assurance.

Two, we also need to know that there is a place that has been prepared for us as promised by our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a place where there is no sorrow or darkness because God is the light of the place.

Three, there is also a shining crown that awaits those who labour for God’s kingdom while on earth. Amen. All these should therefore help in keeping ourselves firm in the Lord with no willingness to compromise. This was what Paul saw when he said that he is pressing on towards the goal. May the good Lord help you never to be enticed with anything in this world in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer point: Oh Lord, now I know that what is beyond this world is greater and worth pursuing than what it is in this world, help me to continually live with this understanding in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Reference Hymn
CCC Hymn 13 stanza 1
“Good behaviour for thee all I pray
Ye all my entire prophets
Eschew all bitterness and envy
And move nearer to Lord Jesus”

As we sojourn in life, there is need for us to be very mindful of the kind of people that we interact with as they have the potential of influencing us either positively or negatively.
The Bible clearly submits that evil communication corrupts good manner.

Today’s message captured Paul’s message to the Corinthians enjoining them not to be yoked together with unbelievers. That is, they should have no agreement whatsoever with those who are not the followers of Christ.

This involves any form of relationship e.g. business partnership or marriage. We are expected to ensure that we are not enticed or influenced by anything which may seem attractive. Amen.

Yes, they may seem to be having all that they need but never allow that affect you as you hold on to your Maker who is willing and able to supply your needs according to his riches in glory. Amen.

If you unavoidably find yourself in their midst, know that it is an avenue to let your light shine so that people may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
It is a forum to introduce the light that Christ brought. May the good Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer Point: Oh Lord, now I know that I must not be yoked with an unbeliever as it only brings sorrows, help me to hearken to this instruction in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
