TOPIC: LOVE IS NOT SELF-SEEKING

One character of love is that love is not self-seeking

SCRIPTURE: Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 4:7-8.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: One character of love is that love is not self-seeking.

Our anchor Scripture reveals that Love is a nature of God. And since we are made in the Image of God (Genesis 1:26-28), we are expected to love as God loves; we are supposed to love people as we love ourselves.

Now, one character of love is that love is not self-seeking.
1 Corinthians 13:5 says,
…seeketh not her own…
This means, love is not self-seeking.

Now, if we say, love is not self-seeking, what do we mean?

i. First, it means love is not self-centred
Love is not focused on self to the exclusion of others. Now, one of the places for the experimentation of love is marriage. A major problem in marriage is when people are seeking their own without caring for what concerns the other person.
There are men who don’t care about the welfare of their wives, and there are women who don’t care for the welfare of their husbands. To truly love, you must seek the welfare of the other person.

ii. Second, it means that love does not emphasize its own rights at the expense of the rights of others.
When we say love is not self-seeking, it means love does not emphasize its own rights at the expense of the rights of others. Remember that if you want your rights, another person also wants their rights. Love does not try to get his own rights at the expense of other people’s rights.

iii. Third, it means, love does not operate the “always-me-first mentality”
Love doesn’t operate the “Always-me-first mentality”. Selfishness operates like that. Love does not say, “Let me speak first before you speak. Understand what I am saying first. Shut up and u

*CHARACTERS OF SOME MEMBERS IN THE CHURCH (BORN AGAIN BUT NOT BROKEN).*

*1. They go to work early but come to church late.*

*2. They beg their boss when they err but threaten to leave church whenever there is a misunderstanding.*

*3. They work hard to be promoted at work but treat the work of God with levity.*

*4. They pay all their dues in the workplace but refuse to pay tithe in the church.*

*5. They buy costly things for their boss to get favour but can't even buy airtime for their pastor.*

*6. When they are not going to be in the office, they take permission ahead from their superior; but expect pastor to pay them visits when they miss church without notice.*

*7. They fear and respect their boss than their pastor and even sometimes more than God.*

*8. When they are sick they manage to go to work but they cannot manage to come to the church.*

*9. They take official query serious but handle divine rebuke with disdain.*

*10. They tolerate their colleagues in the workplace but cannot tolerate the brethren.*

*11. They turn off their phones at workplace, but use calls to distract other worshippers in Church.*

*12. They can work overtime in the office but get offended at the pastor if he's not closing at the stipulated time. ETC.*

*If you're guilty of any of these👆👆 Ask God for mercy and live a fulfilling life for Him alone Who owns your breathe and everything you have.*

*Church Ethics:*

*1. Stop going to church with bathroom slippers and hair nets.* You will not just look unsightly, you will make the church look unsightly. It gives you a presentation before others.

*2. Always carry a Bible to church.* It is not about the Bible, it is you supporting your convictions and telling the world where you stand. You may not read from your Bible in church because of the one on the screen, but never leave it at home when you go to church. There are things God will want to tell you from the Bible that may not be on the one displayed on the screen.

*3. When you go to give testimony, please, use your allotted time.* One extra minute is disobedience! Stop telling unnecessary stories, go straight to the point.

*4. Don't disobey the ushers.* Any sit they give to you, go there and sit down. Stop sizing ushers and insisting on a particular or favorite place to sit! The ushers are like the angels of the Lord that knows where you will actually be well positioned to get your blessing from the service.

*5. Offering time is not a time to ease yourself or meditate.* I gave offering in 3'0-s and before I got home that Sunday, someone blessed me with the exact money I gave as offering. It's a bad thing to appear before God without an offering in your hands. Also ensure you give your children their offering before you send them to their classes so they won't be inferior and left out.

*6. When it is time for praise and worship, get up, rejoice and dance.* It is foolishness to assume you are bigger than God or you are doing God a favor by worshipping him. Don't make yourself look like a statute when others are shouting joy and excitement when praising God.

*7. When the preacher is preaching, concentrate.* Stop re-preaching and rehearsing how you would have delivered the sermon better in your mind.

*8. After service, go home.* Stop hanging around to gossip, after the grace, exchange pleasantries with people and go home!

SCRIPTURE: And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you live beyond yourself, you live beyond your size.

The love life is highly rewarding but absolutely challenging and completely demanding. For instance, we live in a world that is overrun by the plague of ingratitude (2 Timothy 3:1-2). So, you see people that you loved and assisted in the past but now behave towards you as if you did nothing good for them.

We live in a world filled with people who actually reward good with evil. You raise people, and they try to erase you (Genesis 13:2-8).

Another hindrance to love life is personal challenges and confrontations of life. This is when someone feels so confronted and challenged that he decides to face himself squarely to the exclusion of others.

Now, how can you walk in love?
1. Realise that for every ungrateful person, there is a grateful person waiting to be helped (Ruth 1:14).

2. Realise that the gain of loving and giving is more for the giver than the receiver (Acts 20:35).

3. Realise that the gains of loving and giving transcend time into eternity (Matthew 25:34-46).

4. Realise that a life centred on self is a life settled for small both in this world and in the world to come. When you live beyond yourself, you live beyond your size (John 12:23-24).

5. Realise that the needs you meet in the lives of others will determine the needs God will meet in your life because life is a seed (Galatians 6:7). When you look away from your needs to the needs of others, God will look away from others to you (Job 42:10).

TOPIC: YOUR OBEDIENCE AND INSIGHTS

God will never give you a new revelation beyond your obedience of the last instruction.

SCRIPTURE: And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. Mark 4:24

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God will never give you a new revelation beyond your obedience of the last instruction.

Our anchor scripture reveals to us that God gives more lights and insights to those who hearken to the ones He previously showed them. So, obedience brings insight.

When you obey God’s instructions, He is delighted to give you fresh instructions. God gives more lights to the one who obeys Him.

On the other hand, if there is something God has shown to you that you are still playing with, God will not have any business showing you fresh things because you have refused to do anything about what He showed you before. God will never give you a new revelation beyond your obedience of the last instruction. Obedience to God is key to insight.

Every time God shows me something new, I also write down actions as I receive the revelation. What do I do with what I’m seeing? What do I do with what I’m hearing? What steps should I take? I document not just the revelation, but the actions for immediate implementation. Then God says, “This young man is ready for more.”

There are people whose books are filled with instructions until those instructions become their condemnation. And they are saying, “I am not seeing anything again, even if I pray.” How would they see when they have not done anything about the things God had showed to them before?

Beloved, do you want to receive from God again and again? Obey the last instruction He gave to you.

Remember this: God will never give you a new revelation beyond your obedience to the last instruction.

ASSIGNMENT(S):

1. Is there anything God told you to do that you have not yet done? Do it now.

2. Ask God for mercy if you have failed him before.

3. Make demands on the grace to do as God bids you.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to obey whatever You will instruct me to do. I say yes to Your Will Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
