📆 Saturday, October 16, 2021. -World Food Day

SPIRITUAL FAMINE

Read: Amos 8:8-11

Amos 8:8-11 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

MEMORISE:
Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord God "That I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord" (Amos 8:11)

EXPOSITION
Sometimes God sends natural disasters, like locusts, famine, earthquake, pestilence, tornado, etc., to punish His people for their sins. The solution to these is found in the Word of God. It is worse if God would allow the scarcity of His Word to deal with His people; not the scarcity of bread and water (cf. Exod 17:2ff; Ruth 1:1,2). Most people are afraid of physical death than they are of spiritual death, and so deliberately ignore the Word, caring not what becomes of their ungodly and lackadaisical attitudes towards the Word.

Those who ignore God's Word, now, whether as an instruction, plea, warning, or discipline will later look for, and find it not. When they freely had access to the Word, what did they do with it? No wonder Solomon, who was a victim of toying with God's Word, returned to admonish us to buy the truth and sell it not (Prov. 23:23). When a man continues to disdain God's Word with impunity, He can deliberately hide His Word that should have saved him/her in the first place. Pharaoh's heart was hardened because God was ready to destroy him after he had played games with God and lost (Exod. 4:21; 7:13). On this day, which is World Food Day, it must dawn on us that scarcity of the Word of God kills more than scarcity of food and water.

Is it not time that you returned from idolatry and all sins that pitch you against your Creator? A time would come, if you refuse to repent, when it would be too late, God forbid. Eat the Word freely, now. Buy it; sell it not.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, please never deny me of natural and spiritual food, for I can't do without any of them.
2. Lord, make Your Church more hungry again for Your Word of life.
3. Father Lord, save churches who are being spiritually malnourished from the risks of spiritual 'kwashiorkor.'

LIFE IN HELL (I)

Read: Luke 16:19-31

Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

MEMORISE:
And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom (Luke 16:23)

EXPOSITION
When you tell the tale of a place you have personally visited, people tend to believe you more, because experience, they say, is the best teacher. If you have experienced it, you can preach it better. No one is more qualified to talk about hell and the life there, than someone who had passed a night at least there. How is the place like? What are they doing there? Who are the people there? Can there be any greater disaster to man's soul than hell, even as the world remembers International Day For National Disaster Reduction?

One thing that is common with the testimonies of those who claim they have visited hell, whether in dream, trance, or real life, is the agony and anguish the people there are subjected to. You wouldn't want to visit such a place, whether in real life or in the dream world. To strengthen your resolve not to visit or end up in hell, listen to the account of the rich man in Luke 16. While we cannot totally believe the claims of those hell visitors that we have around us today, so to say, this account cannot be debunked, because it is from the Master Himself, who alone came down from heaven. His testimony is real and faultless.

This episode is the real picture of what hell is, from the very mouth of the Truth. It is true. The rich man ended in hell after enjoying all the goodness of this world, but Lazarus was comforted in the bosom of Abraham. Torment and comfort are two parallel experiences (v. 25). How do we know that the place is not habitable? Part of the torment is that water was not available to quench the rich man's thirst. Was there no water, or was it deliberately withdrawn? How satisfying would a fingertip-drop of water can be? He believed that with that he could be satisfied. What a torment! Considering the rate at which you use water here to bath, drink, cook, etc., would you be able to cope where water crises will rob you of even a single drop to quench your thirst? Think of it and make necessary amends before its too late.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me not to end my life in hell, come what may.
2. Lord Jesus, don't let me be eternally separated from You.
3. Lord, deliver our rich men from overconfidence in their riches, so that they can honour You with their substances, and better the lots of people around them.

BECOMING A BETTER YOU (III)

Read: Ephesians 4:20 - 32

MEMORISE:
And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude]. (Ephesians 4:23).

EXPOSITION
Have you observed the gradual growth of a lowly caterpillar becoming a butterfly? The footage usually starts gradually from the weighty little worm inching its way along a leaf that it devours. This process seems slow, but with time, it becomes a butterfly. You want to grow too? It is possible when you continue in studying God's Word (spiritual milk) and developing passion for a more meaningful devotional life.

You must be renewed in your mind. Growth and maturity are not one-time events. Your mind has to be regularly renewed, or else you will be tempted to return to your old habits. You can't renew your mind on your own. As you expose your mind to the Word and Truth, your mind becomes renewed, and works properly. By this, you will remember your new identity in Christ-new creature, and that it is not your power to change.

Always run back to God when you stumble (1 Jn.1v8-10), instead of running away from Him. Jesus died to ransom and reconcile us to God (Rom.8v1). When you stumble, press reset, and keep pursuing God. It is not about feeling bad and trying to live a better life (2 Cor. 7v10). Genuinely repent of your sin, forsake it, and ask the Holy Spirit, to renew your mind by the Washing of the Word and the Blood. At that point, your old self, sin, bad habits no longer define who you are. You are a child of God (Jn.1v12) who has defeated Satan and sin in Christ Jesus (1 Cor. 15v57, 1 Jn.3v18) Rely on Jesus grace, and it would become easier to live the life He expects of you.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Thank You Jesus for all You have perfected to deliever me from the ravaging power of Satan and sin.
2. Lord Jesus, give me the new heart to serve You all the days of my life.
3. Lord Jesus, let there be the revival of Holy living that would give credence to the preaching of Your Gospel in our churches.

THERE IS A PAY DAY!

Read: Genesis 19: 1-13

Genesis 19:1-13 The two angels arrived at S***m in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.
"My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.” “No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.”
But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate.
Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of S***m—both young and old—surrounded the house.
They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have s*x with them.”
Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing.
Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”
“Get out of our way,” they replied. “This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.
But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door.
Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door.
The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here,
Because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it.”

MEMORISE:
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

EXPOSITION
In today's passage, two angels were at S***m and Gomorrah to execute God's plan concerning the cities Lot and His family dwelt theirn. Lot distinguished himself being respectful and generous to the strangers who turned out to be angels of the Lord. These attributes coupled with the righteousness and intersession of his uncle, Abraham, worked wonders as to the deliverance of Lot and His family. Lot's family was spared from the destruction vented on the most wayward people.

In like manner, this world (generation) is filled with wickedness, but God expects you to live as His obedient child, in His holiness and righteousness, regardless of the oddness of such virtues. God knows that we are in the last days (2 Tim.3v1-9). Yet, He expects and encourages us that having known His Word (the right doctrine), we must fully cooperate with Him alone in all we do, in preparation for eternity with Him.

The angels told Lot that God would destroy S***m and Gomorrah because their sins had become an outcry that He could no longer bear and ignore. Thus, there must be judgement, and the payday for their sins had come. We must understand that there is no sin hidden from God. He cannot be deceived (Gal.6v7). The day of reckoning will come like a thief in the night. All sins will be exposed and paid for, if there is no repentance. That it seems He is not coming yet doesn't show blackness on His part. He is not merciful, and because of the fact that He doesn't desire that anyone perishes, is till waiting for all to repent before the set time (2 Pet.3v9).

To aviod God's judgement, confess all yours sins, and flee from every appearance of evil. May God help you to do the needful. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, I need a positive change; change me, today, to be like You in all things.
2. I receive deliverance from every wrong choice I have made, in Jesus name.
3. Lord, help all leaders (traditional, church, national and political, etc.) always remember the inescapable payday, so that that would moderate their decisions and actions, most especially, as it affects the followers.

WANTED BACK

Read: Judges 11:1-10

Judges 11:1-10 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.
And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.
Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.
And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:
And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?
And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.

MEMORISE:
Then they said to Jephthah, "Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the people of Ammon" (Judges 11:6)

EXPOSITION
Jephthah was a victim of circumstances. Of course, he was an illegitimate son of Gilead. His brothers had rejected him because of this singular reason. They sent him away because he was the son of a pr******te. Was that his making or fault? Did they know that there could only be accidental parents, but not accidental child? Every child coming into this world comes with a seal of God's purpose for his/her life, since everyone comes from the all-knowing, all-seeing God who knows the end from the beginning (Amos 3:6; cf. Jer. 1:5).

Jephthah lived as an outcast with a band of worthless rebels following him in time of imminent danger. The time came when he would be needed. It is as if God was preserving him for that time. God so projected this rejected 'bastard', as they initially considered him, that all eyes were on him as the only one who possessed the qualities necessary for their deliverance from their oppressors. He became the stone the builders once rejected but was becoming the corner stone of the building. God so honoured him, giving him a say (vv. 7-8) that he chose to follow them based on his own this rejected eyes terms: 'If you take me back home to fight against the people of Ammon, and the Lord delivers them to me, shall I be your head?' (v. 9), and the elders consented (v. 10). God made him relevant at his allotted time (cf. Eccl.3:11).

The desire to belong to a particular social group drives people to do the ridiculous. Social needs are real: to belong, to feel needed, to feel significant, and to feel one is contributing. Satisfy your social needs in real ways that won't jeopardise your relationship with God. Whenever you feel discouraged, look up to the One who made you a pecullar person, and has great plan for your life (cf. Jer. 29:11). He will make you great in His own way.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, heal me of every hurt of the past; help me to forgive my offenders.
2. I shall get to the peak of God's purpose and programme for my life, home, ministry and endeavours, in Jesus' name.
3. Lord, help Your church to purposefully embrace the rejected and outcast in our communities.

PICK UP THE PIECES

Read: Revelation 3:1-3

Revelation 3:1-3 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

MEMORISE:
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God (Revelation 3:2)

EXPOSITION
In Jesus Christ's message to the Church in Sardis, He made them realise that they were dead, though they boasted of being alive (v. 1). He went further to tell them that some remedies could still be done to save the others who were about dying. This same message is reaching every user of this devotional booklet today.

If you are a poultry-keeper, you have a daily duty of thorough inspection of the fowls. You have to watch them carefully, how they behave. If you have once experienced losses due to infection that made some to die, you would want to guard against this. Others that are ready to follow suit would have to be cared for, to reduce loss. God is concerned about His Church on earth. This is why He constantly sends messages to us. What a caring Father! He rebukes us because we are His children.

No matter your present spiritual condition, the joy is that you can rise to become the desire of God's heart. Even if you have fallen into any type of sin, or worse still, you seem to be falling from grace to grass in terms of your relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, losing hope or sinking deeper hopelessly into the mire of sin isn't the solution. Don't remain in that fallen state, or contemplating a su***de, as we commemorate World Su***de Prevention Day today (cf. Prov. 28:18).

David, the beloved of God fell into the sin of adultery. Though the effect of this sin so shattered and scattered things for him, it is on record that this man of God was able to pick up the pieces of his life and get back on the track.

It is not the time to count the losses and sorrow on them. Rather, it is time to pick up. Do not tarry in that devastating state, lest the tempter ties you down the more. King Saul fell, but unlike his successor, he failed to pick up the pieces. He continued to go down the drain in his relationship with God until he ended up ingloriously. This is not the plan of God, for you. Having rebuked and chastised you for the wrong done, He expects you to come back to Him for revival, revitalisation and resuscitation.

You can have the joy of your salvation back, if you listen and do what the Holy Spirit says to those Asian churches.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, grant me the humility to face the fact of my sins, and return to You for forgiveness and restoration.
2. Lord, grant me total positive recovery of all I have lost to Satan and sin.
3. Pray for ex-convicts to find Jesus and be able to pick up pieces of their lives for better ones in Jesus' Christ.

POWER OF PRAYER

Read: Luke 18:1-8

Luke 18:1-8 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.
And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,
Yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

MEMORISE:
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)

EXPOSITION
Because some people have failed in the place of prayer, they conclude that prayer does not work, that God isn't answering prayers. When you pray and it is as if the answer is not forthcoming, it is not enough to relax and conclude that prayer is not working, or that you will now begin to seek means to get answer to your request. No. Your miracle is on the way. God is working things out in your favour, only if you can believe and wait on Him. Just continue to pray. Pray until what you are asking for is done (Jn.16v24). He who cuts corners would eventually be cornered by the devil who would cut short his/her life.

The parable of Jesus about the widow who persisted in asking to be avenged by the judge becomes very relevant here. This woman in Jesus parable knew what she wanted from the judge and she won't stop until her demand is granted. This quality of persistence is what every achiever or successful person needs to possess. Without persistence, you cannot get anything done in your life. Quitter don't win and winners don't quit. Prayer don't answer for those who cannot persist with God. Jesus asked His disciples to watch with Him.

It takes persistence to watch. Are you a Christian who cannot hold on for some time? It is doubtful, if you will ever make Heaven, because since the day of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffers violence, and those who are violent take it by force (Matt.11v12 paraphrased).

The problem of many with prayer today, is that, they don't know what they need. So, when they ask, they ask amiss (cf.Jas.4v3). Many are sure of what they are asking but can't hold on, because they are too lazy to wait on God, whereas only those who wait on Him can laugh at last (Isa.40v31). Some others pray with unholy hands (1 Tim.2v8). To get prayer to work for you, you must offer it in righteousness, with holy hands, persistence and faith.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to hold on You, no matter the situation, give me the grace to pray until my prayer receives the right answer.
2. The spirit to keep watching and be persistent in prayer, fall on me, in Jesus name.
3. Lord, let there be the revival of right biblical praying that pleases You.

MERCY AND NOT SACRIFICE

Read: Hosea 6:1-6

MEMORISE:
For I desire and delight in dutiful steadfast love and goodness, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of and acquaintance with God more than burnt offerings.
(Hosea 6v6)

EXPOSITION
Jesus, while answering the question raised by the Pharisees on Why He eats with tax collectors and sinners, said, But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice (Matt.9:13). "Mercy" here may be described as both acts of mercy shown by the Lord, and acts of mercy done by men: both which the Lord wills, desires and delights in.

Offerings and oblations that are simply following an established routine are unacceptable to the Lord who desires that His people serve Him out of devotion, obedience and love. Pharisaic adherence to rules and regulations, behaving legalistically in the keeping of feast and fast days, a mechanical attitude towards worship and religious ordinances and the meaningless repetition of prayers or invocations are futile, and the Lord will not accept such hypocritical behaviour.

Religious rituals can help people understand God and nourish their relationship with Him. That is why God instituted circumcision and the sacrificial system in the Old Testament, and baptism and the Lord's Supper in the New Testament. But a religious ritual is helpful only if it is carried out with an attitude of love for, and obedience to God. If a person's heart is far from God, ritual will become empty mockery.

What God wants from His people is MERCY i.e. a steadfast and loyal love that respond to His love. He also wants a personal acknowledgement of Him as Lord of their lives. Our heavenly Father and gracious Saviour desires mercy, and not sacrifice. He longs that we come to a deeper knowledge of Him, rather than engaging in the outward ritual of burnt sacrifices.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to honour You to the depth of my being, in word and deed, in thought and in motive.
2. Heavenly Father, give me the grace to serve You out of devotion, obedience and love.
3. Lord, rid our churches of empty ritual that play down the importance of discipleship in building mature Christians for Your Kingdom.

HE WHO HAS EARS (III)

Read: Luke 14:34-35

MEMORISE:
Salt is good [an excellent thing], but if salt has lost its strength and has become saltless (insipid, flat), how shall its saltness be restored? It is fit neither for the land nor for the manure heap; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him listen and consider and comprehend by hearing! (Luke 14:34-35)

EXPOSITION
It is the third time this statement comes to you: *He who has ears, let him hear.* Jesus method of teaching is to ensure that His audience understands the fundamental principles of life. What is paramount is that, people practice when they learn.

In Luke chapter 14, the people that were invited to dine at the house of a Pharisee, where Jesus was seated, were taught:

1. The value of God's compassion over the sick than the strict adherence to the law of no-work on the Sabbath (vv.1-6);
2. The case of humble conduct in public seating (vv.7-11)
3. The blessedness of being kind-hearted to the less privileged (vv.12-24), and afterwards
4. While great multitudes followed Him, He taught the cost of true discipleship (vv.26-35).
The beauty of this chapter is seen in its conclusion, *He who has ears to hear, let him hear* (v.35).

The development of good listening skills is important to all part of our lives: academics, workplace, families, etc. but our skills in listening to the Word of God are of greatest importance. Going by how Jesus concluded His teaching in Luke 14 with a call to the hearing ears, 5 principle of effective listening to the WORD are of noted:

1. Take the teaching of God's Word seriously
2. Pay attention by taking notes where necessary or buy or download the materials for your deep reflection, afterward
3. Do not be distracted in your mind, having other thoughts
4. Resist the urge to start evaluating the sermon and the speaker. Have a hearing ear to hear what God is saying to you, and not to someone else who isn't present or attentive and finally
5. Always pray your convictions earnestly to God that they become your commitments, lest you are just a mere audience or speaker of the Word.

HE WHO HAS EARS (II)

Read: 2 Timothy 4:1-5

2 Timothy 4:1-5 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

MEMORISE:
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches (Revelation 2:29)

EXPOSITION
Sometimes, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and we just let things go in through one ear and go out from other. A married couple sits at the breakfast table. The man, reading the paper, says, "Honey, listen to this news item: 'A study was done that shows conclusively that women speak twice as many words as man!'

"Wife: 'Well, we women always have to repeat ourselves because you men never hear us the first time, we say something.'
"Husband: 'What did you say?'
Just look at the husband's reply. This shows that listening is never easy. Is it? All of us are so easily distracted like that husband, even in church! When someone gets up during a sermon, perhaps to go to the bathroom, at least one-third of the eyes in the sanctuary follow the person out. Why? Possibly out of curiosity or baseless concern, that the person doesn't fall! People's minds can easily drift away to their afternoon plans during sermon before realising that no word of the preacher has been heard for about five minutes earlier. On other occasions, when we are in discussion, we will hear a point we want to respond to and begin to formulate ours, not hearing anything the other person says. All these point to the importance of having hearing ears.

What Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy then, is what God saying to you today. Do not develop itching ears and prefer speculative opinions of men to the hearing of the practical truths of the Gospel (2 Tim. 4:3-4). A hearing ear will truly listen and seek understanding, not being tickled with the language and accent of the fine speakers, and then abandon the good and faithful preachers. Develop good listening skills to the Word of God that the Gospel truths may take root in your heart and mind convincingly with all convictions.

PRAYER POINTS
1. In Jesus' name, I receive this day, the hearing ears to profit in all aspects of life.
2. Holy Spirit, remove every satanic, demonic, God-dishonouring plugs in my spiritual ears, now, in Jesus' name.
3. Pray for preachers of the Word of God everywhere, for the grace to always wait on God to receive sufficiently from Him before preaching.
