Niger State Governor Umar Bago has issued a strong warning that any imam or mosque found preaching extremism, terrorism, religious hatred or supporting bandits in the state will face immediate action.

The governor said any religious leader who promotes violence, incites hatred or gives a platform to terrorist groups will be arrested, while the mosque involved will be shut down.

Bago specifically warned against allowing members of the Lakurawa terrorist group to preach in any mosque, stressing that his administration will not tolerate any form of support for terrorism or violent extremism.

He said places of worship must remain centres of peace, unity and moral values, not platforms for spreading violence or division. The governor also urged residents to report anyone using religion to promote insecurity, adding that protecting lives and maintaining peace remain his administration's top priority.

Another Braking news!

Burkina Faso President, Ibrahim Traoré is making waves on social media following an impactful speech he delivered on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Traore who was addressing representatives from the Yagha region in Ouagadougou focused on two important areas: religion and education.

He stated that, his administration is committed to religious diversity and will not enforce any particular faith or belief system on the citizens.

“I am a Muslim, but everyone in Burkina Faso has the right to practice their own religion. There will never be Sharia law here,” he said.

Traoré further highlighted a severe mismatch between the country's current educational outputs and its critical societal needs. According to him, many young Burkinabes are focusing on studying abstract theories, particularly religious scholarship.

He added further that, the focus of the country’s educational system will shift entirely towards STEM to meet the demands of modern development. “We need people with technological skills to build our nation, not Sharia scholars,” Traore said.
