Baptist Women of West Africa Gather in Sierraleone to Live and Share the Goodnews
LUNSAR, SIERRA LEONE — The 13th Biannual Conference of the Baptist Women Union of West Africa (BWUWA) has concluded in Lunsar, Sierra Leone, with a renewed call for Baptist women across West Africa to live out and proclaim the Gospel beyond their immediate communities.
Held under the theme “Beyond Jerusalem: Women Living the Good News,” with Scripture references from Acts 1:8 and Luke 4:18–19, the conference brought together Baptist women from across West Africa for a powerful time of worship, prayer, biblical teaching, fellowship, networking and spiritual renewal.
Delegates from Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Togo and other West African countries joined their sisters in Sierra Leone to celebrate God's faithfulness, strengthen relationships and renew their commitment to advancing the Gospel in West Africa and beyond
The successful organization of the conference was made possible by God through the stewardship of Rev. Julie M. Sesay, President of the Baptist Women Union of West Africa, who provided strategic direction and leadership throughout the planning and ex*****on of the gathering. She was ably assisted by a host of dedicated and committed team members, whose sacrifices, coordination and service contributed significantly to the success of the conference.
The conference also received strong support from the Baptist women in Sierra Leone, led by Deaconess Mrs. Magdalene Conteh. Their hospitality, commitment and practical support helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for delegates from across the sub-region
A major highlight of the conference was the participation of the Continental President of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship, Pastor Elias Apetogbo, who attended alongside his wife, Mrs. Denise Apetogbo.
Pastor Elias shared God's Word through Bible Exposition focused on Women living the Goodnews beyond Jerusalem. His message reinforced the call for Baptist women to move beyond the walls of the church, live above personal interest and become active witnesses of Christ in their families, communities, nations and beyond. Pastor Elias was actively involved in the Executive Committee meeting of the BWUWA and made impactful contributions especially with crucial ratifications carried out.
Also joining the conference was Deaconess Jane Mwangi, President of the Baptist Women Union of Africa, who travelled from Kenya to participate in the gathering. Her presence further demonstrated the growing connection and unity among Baptist women across the African continent. Mama Jane as she is fondly called by women has been a uniting personality in fostering the continental women ministry, availing herself to attend sub-regional conferences and guiding leaders to express their ministry giftedness. She is indeed a blessing to Baptist Women department in Africa and beyond.
The conference was further strengthened by the presence and support of Baptist leaders from Sierra Leone. Special appreciation goes to Rev. Dr. Samuel Kargbo, President of the Baptist Convention of Sierra Leone for his support, presence and commitment to the gathering.
Appreciation also goes to the many Leaders, Ministers, Royal Fathers, volunteers and Partners who contributed in various ways to making the conference a memorable and impactful gathering.
We specially wish Rev. Julie M. Sesay a joyful onward ministry as she wraps up her tenure as the President of BWUWA. May God continue to use you to advance His Kingdom in Jesus name.
The conference also featured teachings, Country Parade, Street Walk, fraternal greetings and a special Anthem Song tagged ''Beyond Jerusalem'' was rendered to charge women across West Africa and beyond.
