METHODIST REFLECTION FOR TODAY

THURSDAY 25TH FEBRUARY, 2021

THEME: LEARN TO FORGIVE

PASSAGE: LUKE 11:1-10

MEMORY VERSE: Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave You.”

Read - Day: Rom 2; Night: Exodus 29-30

The Lord's Prayer is found in Matthew 6:9-15 as part of the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew, Jesus uttered it of His own accord, without being asked, while teaching His disciples how to pray. But In Luke, Jesus gave the prayer under totally different circumstances.

In response to one of His disciples' request to teach them how to pray (11:1), Jesus gave them a prayer that highlighted what is most important and necessary in life, and suggests how we should rank them. Luke's version of the Lord's Prayer contains five requests which we may not be able to emphasize here. The disciples' request must have been made seeing that Jesus Christ's prayers were always heard.

In the Lord's Prayer, God's interest is considered first, followed by ours. That obviously should be the true priority in the prayer life of every Christian.

When Jesus taught us to “forgive us our sins, as we also forgive…” (11:4), He was simply assuming that those who seek to learn how to pray unto God should also learn how to forgive. Forgiving others is a condition for receiving God's forgiveness. In Matt.6:14-15, Jesus states “for if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father in Heaven forgive your trespasses.”

As sinful human-beings, we need forgiveness every day, just as we need our daily bread. In fact, Jesus told His disciples that they should forgive a person 490 times! Our thoughts, attitudes and deeds are controlled by our minds. This is why some people hold on to irrelevant issues and therefore push them to act against God's Will by not forgiving their neighbours or those who offend them, irrespective of their Chr

DAILY REFLECTION
Tuesday 19th February, 2019
Theme: God Is Aware
Passage: Job 12: 1 - 12
The passage before us today is a typical example of what people pass through on a daily basis. A situation whereby our friends, well-wishers and families only recognize us when things are moving well or rosy with us is not the best. They tend to call us sweet names, pay us several visits with good food and render good services to us. But once we are faced with the challenges of life and they discover that the wealth has disappeared, then their true attitude towards us will manifest. They will turn to cajole and make mockery of us, just as Job's friends did to him in verse 4.
Beloved, I have good news for you today. God is aware of every situation – even yours. He is aware of what we pass through, our pains, afflictions and all our hidden predicaments, which nobody around us may have knowledge of. He knows about the rejection, the abandonment, the denial, the hatred and conspiracy against us for the sake of the gospel. Nothing is hidden in His sight.
I therefore enjoin us to hope and trust in God, by making positive confessions over our lives. Say boldly that sickness attacking you is not unto death because in His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. He will not forsake you in that situation. As God did not forsake Daniel in the den of lions; nor Job in his travail; nor Hannah in her barrenness; nor Paul and Silas in prison, He will surely neither forget nor forsake you if you cry unto Him in your hour of need. He is God.
MEMORY VERSE: Job 12:9 “Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?”
HYMN: MHB 371- AND can it be that I should gain.
PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, for knowing my situation and for caring for me. Help me to remain stable and faithful to thee in times of difficulties in Jesus' name. Amen.

DAILY REFLECTION

Tuesday 12th February, 2019

Theme: Care For The Needy
Passage: Deuteronomy 15:6-11

Going by the dictionary meaning, the needy are people who are poor and need help from others. They are people who need affection, attention or reassurance. In the Old Testament, God gave them laws that created a caring and loving atmosphere where the less-privileged are taken care of or recognized. For instance, one of the laws protecting the needy says, “When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. Leave it for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I, the Lord, AM your God” (Lev. 23:22). If you can recollect, there was a time when Jesus and His disciples were going through a field of corn and His disciples ate from such left over (Mk. 2:23).

In the early church, the disciples had all things in common; they shared what they had, one with others so that no one lacked (Acts 2:44-47). The church community is expected to be a type of closely-knitted family where everyone is catered for irrespective of class or status. That was why Paul wrote to the Galatians, “Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone, especially to our Christian brothers and sisters” (Gal. 6:10). However, the needy are not only those who need food, money or materials they also need affection, attention or reassurance.

Do you have those who need your help, money, care, counselling, comfort, encouragement? Don't turn or run away from them! Give to them those things you are able to give with the assurance that God will give back to you in multiple folds. Remember, no one knows tomorrow.

MEMORY VERSE: Deuteronomy 14:29 “Give it to the Levites, who have no inheritance among you, as well as to the foreigners living among you, the orphans, and the widows in your towns, so they can eat and be satisfied. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all your work.”

HYMN: MHB 153 – LOVE others as thyself

PRAYER: God, help me to have Christ-like compassion to give without minding
the cost; to labour without seeking any repose, for Jesus name's sake. Amen.
