Condemnation of the Lynching of Malama Ummulkhair in Kaduna State
Al Akhwaatul Muslimah, National Headquarters, strongly condemns the gruesome lynching of Malama Ummulkhair, a respected Islamic teacher and mother, who was brutally killed on 21st June 2026 in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following allegations of child theft.
According to reports, the deceased was attacked by an angry mob before the allegation against her was verified or security agencies could intervene. She was reportedly lynched and set ablaze, bringing a tragic end to the life of a woman known for her dedication to Islamic teachings and service to her community.
This unfortunate incident is a painful reminder of the dangers of mob justice, misinformation, and the increasing tendency of some members of the public to take the law into their own hands. No individual deserves to be condemned or punished without a fair investigation and due process as provided by law.
As an organization committed to justice, peace, and the protection of human dignity, Al Akhwaatul Muslimah, National Headquarters, expresses its deepest sympathy to the family, students, and loved ones of the late Malama Ummulkhair. We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives her shortcomings, grants her Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and gives her family the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
We call on the Kaduna State Government and relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into this incident, identify all those involved, and ensure they are brought to justice. Holding perpetrators accountable is essential to restoring public confidence and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
We also urge community members to refrain from acts of vigilantism and to always report suspected criminal activities to the appropriate authorities. Justice can only prevail when the rule of law is respected and due process is allowed to take its course.
Furthermore, we encourage religious leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and civil society organizations to intensify public enlightenment on the dangers of mob action and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.
The death of Malama Ummulkhair should not be in vain. It must serve as a wake-up call for all Nigerians to reject violence, uphold justice, and protect the sanctity of every human life.
May Allah (SWT) protect our communities from injustice, guide us to uphold truth and fairness, and grant peace and security to our nation. Ameen.
