GOD KNOWS YOUR NEED
EXPRESSION 01 — EARLY MORNING ALTAR
DAY 02 — PAUSE
BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU NEED?
There is something we must consider after yesterday's reminder:
GOD KNOWS YOUR NEED.
Jesus said that your heavenly Father knows that you have need of these things.
That should give the troubled heart comfort.
God knows.
He sees.
He understands.
He is not unaware of what you are carrying.
But there is another question we must have the courage to ask:
DO I KNOW WHAT I REALLY NEED?
This is where today's journey begins.
Because knowing that we have a need is not always the same thing as understanding what that need truly is.
Sometimes we know exactly what hurts.
But we do not always know what will truly restore us.
Sometimes we know what we want God to change.
But we may not yet understand what God wants to do in our lives through that situation.
Sometimes we identify the problem correctly, but we identify the deepest need incorrectly.
So today, we pause.
Not to deny our need.
Not to pretend that everything is fine.
But to look a little deeper.

🔵 SCRIPTURE
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?”
“For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
— Matthew 6:31–33
Notice what Jesus does.
He does not tell us:
“You have no needs.”
He says:
“Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need.”
Your need is real.
But Jesus does not allow the reality of need to become the ruler of the life.
He moves the believer's attention beyond the immediate pressure:
“SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD.”
This is important.
God knows what you need.
But your need does not know everything you need.
And your need was never designed to become your master.

🔎 TODAY'S INVESTIGATION
Today, take one need that is occupying your mind.
It may be:
Money.
Healing.
Employment.
A relationship.
A child.
A home.
Peace.
Freedom from a difficult situation.
An answer to prayer.
Whatever it is, bring it honestly before God.
Then pause.
Ask yourself:
WHAT AM I CALLING MY NEED?
Then ask:
WHY DO I BELIEVE I NEED IT?
Then:
WHAT DO I EXPECT THIS THING TO DO FOR ME?
And finally:
IF I RECEIVE IT, WILL IT ACTUALLY ADDRESS THE DEEPEST THING THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED?
You may discover something important.
The thing you are asking God for may be genuine.
But it may not be the whole story.
---
🪞 THE NEED MIRROR
Imagine someone who says:
“I NEED MONEY.”
Perhaps they genuinely need money.
But what are they really seeking?
Food?
Shelter?
Security?
Freedom from debt?
A way to care for their children?
Freedom from shame?
Peace?
The money may be real.
But the meaning attached to the money may be much deeper.
Now consider someone saying:
“I NEED TO BE HEALED.”
The physical need may be completely real.
But perhaps there is also fear.
Loneliness.
Exhaustion.
Grief.
A longing for reassurance.
A desire to know that God has not abandoned them.
Again, the physical need is not imaginary.
But the human condition can contain several layers at once.
That is why we must learn to distinguish:
WHAT HURTS
from:
WHAT I THINK WILL FIX IT
and from:
WHAT GOD KNOWS I TRULY NEED.
These are not always identical.

🧭 FROM NEED TO RESPONSE
This is where today's word becomes important:
PAUSE.
Need creates pressure.
Pressure demands a response.
And under pressure, we can respond quickly.
We can panic.
We can complain.
We can compromise.
We can manipulate.
We can become desperate.
We can run to anything that promises immediate relief.
But we can also pause.
We can bring the need before God.
We can ask questions.
We can listen to Scripture.
We can refuse to allow pressure to make our decisions for us.
This is important because:
A REAL NEED DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY JUSTIFY EVERY RESPONSE TO THAT NEED.
Jesus Himself experienced genuine hunger in the wilderness.
Yet hunger did not become His authority.
The devil presented an immediate solution.
Jesus remained under the authority of the Father's word.
The need was real.
But the response still mattered.
---
✝️ CHRIST AT THE CENTRE
This is where we must be careful.
The Christian message is not:
“YOUR NEED DOES NOT MATTER.”
It does.
Jesus saw hungry people.
He saw sick people.
He saw grieving people.
He heard cries.
He responded to human suffering.
But Jesus never reduced human beings to their immediate circumstances.
He came for something deeper.
He did not come merely to make life more comfortable.
He came to bring humanity back to God.
That is why the deepest question is not simply:
“WHAT CAN GOD GIVE ME?”
It is:
“WHAT DOES GOD WANT TO RESTORE IN ME?”
There may be things we need God to provide.
There may be things we need God to heal.
There may be things we need God to remove.
There may be things we need God to change.
But above everything else, we need to remain rightly related to God through Christ.
Because receiving an answer without discovering the Giver can leave the deepest need untouched.

🌅 MORNING TONIC
Today, do not allow your greatest pressure to become your greatest authority.
You may have a genuine need.
Bring it to God.
But before you allow the need to tell you what to do, PAUSE.
Before you make the decision:
PAUSE.
Before you panic:
PAUSE.
Before you compromise:
PAUSE.
Before you assume that you know exactly what God must do:
PAUSE.
And ask:
GOD, WHAT DO I REALLY NEED?
You may be surprised by what He begins to show you.

🙏 MORNING PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
You know my need.
You know what I am carrying.
You know what I have not been able to explain.
You know the things I am asking You to change.
Today, teach me to pause.
Help me not to confuse what I want with everything I need.
Help me not to allow pressure to govern my response.
Give me wisdom to understand my condition.
Give me grace to bring my desires before You.
Give me patience when I do not understand.
And above everything else, keep my heart turned toward You.
If what I need is provision, provide according to Your wisdom.
If I need comfort, comfort me.
If I need strength, strengthen me.
If I need correction, correct me.
If I need deliverance, deliver me.
If I need to wait, teach me how to wait.
And if there is something deeper that I have not yet understood, open my eyes to see it.
Lord Jesus, do not allow my need to become my master.
Let my need bring me closer to You, not farther from You.
You know what I need.
Teach me to trust You while I learn.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.

Write it down.
Then complete these four sentences:
1. WHAT I THINK I NEED IS:
---
2. WHAT I EXPECT THIS TO CHANGE IS:
---
3. WHAT I MAY NOT YET UNDERSTAND ABOUT MY NEED IS:
---
4. WHAT I WILL DO BEFORE I RESPOND UNDER PRESSURE IS:
PAUSE AND BRING IT BEFORE GOD.
Do not rush to solve everything today.
Start by seeing clearly.

🔵 GOD KNOWS YOUR NEED
YESTERDAY:
GOD KNOWS YOUR NEED
TODAY:
PAUSE — BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU NEED?
TOMORROW:
We will continue by asking:
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A NEED BEGINS TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE LIFE?
Because need can create pressure.
Pressure can provoke a response.
And our responses begin to reveal what is happening within us.
The investigation continues:
GOD KNOWS THE NEED
↓
MAN RECOGNIZES THE NEED
↓
PRESSURE ARISES
↓
THE SOUL RESPONDS
↓
THE RESPONSE REVEALS SOMETHING
↓
GOD'S LIGHT HELPS US SEE
Today, do not be afraid of your need.
Bring it into the light.
And remember:
GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED.
YOU CAN ASK HIM TO TEACH YOU WHAT YOU NEED.
