TEXT: JOHN 11 : 28 - 44
TOPIC: JESUS SHOUTED

When Jesus went to Lazarus' tomb, He shouted, "Lazarus, Come out!" and Lazarus got up. Why did Jesus shout instead of just saying what He wanted to say quietly?

Jesus Himself gave the answer: "Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me."

Sometimes we may need to shout the message of Christ to our immediate community so as to draw their attention to it. Idol worshippers, Muslims, animists, cultists and even church goers need to hear the word very loud from us.

Bring Christ to the people of your area by "shouting" it out for their salvation.

QUESTION:
Your community is waiting to hear the message of Christ from you. Are you ready to shout it to their hearing?

PRAYER:
Help me, Oh Lord, to shout Your message so that others will come to You and gain eternal life. Amen.

TEXT: JOHN 10: 22 -41
TOPIC: JESUS WORDS' ABOUT THE SHEEP

JOHN 10 : 22 - 41 NIV

22:Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter,

23:and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade.

24:The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”

25:Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me,

26:but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.

27:My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

28:I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will sn**ch them out of my hand.

29:My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can sn**ch them out of my Father’s hand.

30:I and the Father are one.”

31:Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him,

32:but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

33:“We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

34:Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’?

35:If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside—

36:what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?

37:Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.

38:But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”

39:Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.

40:Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed,

41:and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.”

JESUS WORDS' ABOUT THE SHEEP

Jesus made the following comments about His sheep:
They listen to His voice, they follow Him, they are given eternal life, they will never perish, no one can sn**ch them from His hands because the Father has given them to Him and no one can sn**ch them from the Father's hand either.

Jesus really loves His sheep. No wonder, He has made all of these provisions for them. You are really blessed if you are one of Jesus' sheep.

It is, however, very unfortunate that some Christians who are supposed to receive the Word with joy are the same people criticizing Jesus. Do you belong to such a group of people?

QUESTION: True sheep follow Jesus Christ, the Shepherd. Is that true about you?

PRAYER: I will remain Your sheep as long as I live, in Jesus name. Amen.

*TEXT: 2 KINGS 12 : 9 - 15*
*TOPIC: TAKING RESPONSIBILITY*

Responsibility is said to be a moral obligation to behave correctly.

Two key factors to this moral obligation are honesty and accountability.

In our text for today, we notice the display of a rare practice honesty and accountability in the work of repairing the temple.

Responsibility and accountability were demonstrated in the ladder of checks and balances money moved from the priests to the royal secretary and high priest.

From there, the money moved to the work supervisors.

From the supervisors, the money moved to the workmen, who did exactly what they were required to do.

There was no need for accounting as everyone acted in complete honesty!

A lot will be demanded from believers this year in the area of responsibility and accountability.

These two values are grossly lacking in many believers today.

This is general election year in Nigeria. It is a year where the will, spirituality and morality of many will be tested.

Also, it is possible that many who profess to be believers will offer their consciences and even faith to the highest bidder!

Achan failed this test. Gehazi failed this test. Ananias and Sapphira also failed this test.

Are you responsible? Are you honest?

_*QUESTION:* Can you be trusted?_

_*PRAYER:* Lord, break me down till I am honest and responsible. Please correct my past and make me correct my present and future. Amen._

*TOPIC: READ AND BELIEVE THE KING'S WORD TO BE BLESSED*

The book of Revelation closes the Scripture and seems to be very difficult to understand.

But it is very rich in good news. Indeed, without it, there would have been a lot of unclarified issues which could have left believers in great confusion.

Therefore, the unfolding future events revealed to us through John should be taken and considered with great celebration.

Though it is the Biblical revelation of future events, it was addressed to particular churches that existed at the time of John the Apostle (vs. 11).

Truly, God meant well for His people and revealed the future for all generations of the believers till all is fulfilled.

However, this is the promise of blessings for the faithful who read and obey the Word: "Blessed is the one who reads the word of this prophecy and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it because the time is near" (Revelation 1:3).

This great promise seems to be hidden from Bible readers, especially those who do not like reading the book of Revelation. And it is also most unfortunate that many believers are lazy in studying the Holy Bible.

Every true believer should consider the Holy Bible as a message of great blessings that should never be missed.

_*QUESTION:* How often do you study the Bible?_

_*PRAYER:* O Lord, move and strengthen me to read Your Word, in Jesus name, Amen._

TEXT: ISAIAH 44 : 9 - 28
TOPIC: IDOLS ARE NOTHING

Idolatry is common in African culture but it cannot replace God Almighty. In Exodus 20:1-6, God commanded the Israelites not to worship any other god but Him. Unfortunately, many people run to idols that are made and crafted by man whom God Himself created.

The stupidity of idolatry is displayed as the prophet taunts the people about the fact that what they call a god is made of the same materials and tools created by the Almighty God (vs. 13-19). In fact, part of the wood from which the god is carved is also used as firewood. What a shame! It is very absurd. This is because their eyes are plastered and blocked so that they can't see.

Still, many think that idols are something when they are nothing (vs. 20-23). They are helpless, can't feed themselves and can't remember anything.

QUESTION:
Are you holding onto any idol?

PRAYER:
Lord God, help me to serve only You and do not allow me have any idol that will take Your place in my life, in Jesus name, Amen.

*TOPIC: CULTIVATING AN ATTITUDE OF GIVING*

We are always quick to receive help and support from other people, especially cash, foodstuff and materials.

Unfortunately, many of us do not know how to appropriately express genuine appreciation for such help and support.

Paul was full of gratitude to the Philippian church for the support they gave him.

He acknowledged that they were his partners in his ministry through their generous giving.

Note that it was not only material support that Paul received. He also received help for what he considered "my troubles".

This church stood by Paul rather than abandon him when he was incarcerated.

Their constant provisions through Epaphroditus' presence and ministry and their aid to him from Macedonia to Thessalonica speak volumes of their partnership with Paul.

A look at the Church today will reveal that we have more receivers than givers.

And most of the receivers behave as if they must be provided for without showing gratitude.

Most of our teeming youth have constituted themselves into beggars rather than take advantage of the enormous land resources we have to engage in farming as a means of wealth creation.

Why settle to being a receiver when you can be productive and help others?

_*QUESTION:* Have you experienced the blessing of giving?_

_*PRAYER:* Pray and ask God to help you in line with your answer to the question above. May God help us to demonstrate our love to Him by serving others with what He has blessed us, in Jesus name, Amen._

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4 : 8 - 13
TOPIC: MAINTAIN A HEALTHY EMOTIONAL STABILITY

Our emotional stability has a lot to do with what we do and how much we are able to accomplish. An unstable emotional state will influence your spiritual balance. We live in a world full of threats that could undermine our emotional stability. So we must have sufficient power to withstand these challenges and difficulties.

Yesterday's text dealt with the principle of being gentle in our approach to life and relationships. We were also called upon to look to God in total trust when Paul counselled us to present all our requests to God. Today, Paul focused on what occupies our minds. When we flood our minds and hearts with junk, certainly our emotional state will be dominated and controlled by them which will, in turn, determine our attitude and character.

A healthy heart and emotion feeds on healthy thoughts and imagination that constitute issues that are noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy and maintaining a disposition of contentment.

We have the power to decide what takes residence in our minds through the kinds of conversations we engage in, the songs we listen to, the movies we watch, the type of friends we keep, the lifestyle we adopt and the quality of books we read.

QUESTION:
How will you rate your emotional health on a scale of 1-10?

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, I come to You and humbly surrender my heart and mind for You to guide me, in Jesus name, Amen.

Food for the Day - 2022

WEDNESDAY, 26 OCTOBER 2022
TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4 : 1 - 7
TOPIC: EUODIA AND SYNTYCHE

Human beings must experience conflict and our approach to managing it could lead to improved relationships or crises.

Paul provides some insights into dealing with conflict and how to avoid crisis. Crisis is the result of stress from the conflict and if unchecked can lead the person down the path of physical exhaustion and eventual emotional breakdown.

Euodia and Syntyche were Paul's fellow ministry companions who laboured with them in serving the church. Unfortunately, conflict set in, the nature of which is not explained.

Paul did two things: first, he delegated his "true companion" to help these ladies resolve their differences by being "of the same mind in the Lord." In other words, if they focus on the Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of gentleness and an open mind to present their requests to Him, whatever differences they have would be resolved.

This follows Paul's earlier counsel to let the mind of Christ be in them. Once our conflicts are resolved, our minds shall be flooded by the peace of God.

QUESTION:
Are there unresolved conflicts in your relationships that need immediate attention?

PRAYER:
Ask God to help you by specifically mentioning the issues involved. If He opens your eyes and directs you for help, don't hesitate, Amen.

Food for the Day - 2022

23/10/2022

*SUNDAY, 23 OCTOBER 2022*
*TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 2 : 19 - 30*
*TOPIC: TIMOTHY AND EPAPHRODITUS*

Paul was concerned for the spiritual welfare of his friends while still in prison.

So prison did not prevent him from reaching them with the message of encouragement.

At this time, Timothy was with him, which indicated that Paul was under house arrest.

In the epistle to the Philippians, he explained why Timothy was such a good example when he wrote that "I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.

For everyone looks out for their own interests.... But you know that Timothy has proved himself..." (vs. 19-22).

So also was Epaphroditus whom he considered "my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier ... he risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me (vs. 25-30).

These two demonstrated attitudes of humility, commitment to serve and support to Paul, despite his being in prison.

Every Christian is called to serve other believers and by this demonstrate that we understand that we are objects of grace and mercy.

_*QUESTION:* When you are evaluated, will your life and service count as a good example of love and service in the body of Christ?_

_*PRAYER:* Dear Lord, here I am, make me a vessel of honour to be used as an instrument to serve Your children, in Jesus name, Amen._
