PRAISING GOD FOR HOME AND FAMILY
Text: Psalm 113
Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore. Psalm 113:2, NIV
BH 6: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
RBT: Psalms 34-37
Family, the smallest unit of society, is God's gift to humanity. One of the reasons God instituted the family is to praise Him. Praising God at the family level exposes children to the act of thanksgiving and teaches them to honour God from an early age.
Psalm 113 is the beginning of the Hallel group of psalms (Psalms 113-118), sung in conjunction with the Passover, which focused on the redemption of God's people from Egypt. God's servants are admonished to praise God, who is incomparable and whose glory is revealed everywhere. Praising God should be done always, not momentarily, from morning till night. God should be praised because of His wonderful attributes, and His dealings with man, which includes raising the poor from the dust and lifting the needy from the ash heap (v. 7). Besides, God compensates a barren woman in her home by making her a happy mother of children.
Only believers can truly worship God. Believers are the praise-givers, not the praise receivers. The direction of worship is from them to God. They magnify God's name in worship by expressing their love and commitment to Him. Unbelievers simply cannot do this. Worship is not just something you do in church on Sunday mornings, and then maybe again on Sunday evenings or mid-week. As a family, you must cultivate the habit of praising God collectively, showing appreciation to Him for who He is and for all the benefits you have obtained from Him. Be reminded that God established the family to glorify and praise Him always.
• Wisdom: God inhabits the praises of His people.
• Food for Thought: How often do you praise God collectively in your home?
• Follow-up Action: As you frequently study God's Word collectively in the home, also spend quality time
