PRESS STATEMENT:
COMMUNITY OF TIV STUDENTS (CTS) STRONGLY CONDEMNES THE CONSISTENT AND DEADLY ATTACKS ON TIV STUDENTS IN NIGERIA; CALLS FOR URGENT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION
The Community of Tiv Students (CTS) worldwide is a body of all tiv students studying in tertiary institutions across the globe.The association was founded by our father Late Wantaregh Paul Iorpuu Unongo, about 40yrs ago.Today with heavy hearts, deep pain, and righteous anger to strongly condemn the persistent, brutal, and deadly attacks being unleashed on the Tiv students in Nigeria, affecting thousands of members of our community,the community of tiv students worldwide. Recently we recorded about 250 people killed through attack by the fulani militias, with millions of people displaced, impacting negatively on the tiv students community globally.
These attacks have been carried out in the following LGAs; Guma,Ukum, Kwande,Gwer West, Katsina-Ala from Benue state. In Guma local government, fulani hedsmen attacked the people of Yelewata community and killed over 400 people why about 205(this has been in public domain for a while now). Not only Yelewata, all communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State are devastated by these attacks. These other communities include;
1. Mbaawa District: Atawa, Gyushage, Jugudu
2. Mbabai District: Ikoanenge, Ortserga, Tse-Tule, Uikpam
3. Mbasaan District: Antso, Cheakiyne, Gogo, Ijoh, Iye, Kaseyo, Peregh, Torkula, Ubo, Ukaa, Umenger, Yeshewe
4. Mbagwen District: Nalegh, Talvough, Yogbo
5. Uyiev District: Achakpa, Anakuma, Angudu, Daudu, Madaki, Magum, Nyiev, Sherev, Udei Branch, Yelewatta.
The president of Nigeria,His excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited the State, But up till today the same people of Yelewata community are till in the IDP Camp. This scenario is the same in all affected places in Benue , Nasarawa, Taraba and Plateau States.
