EPISODE 5: The Place I Was Taken
The moment his hand closed around mine, everything around me disappeared.
Not slowly.
Not gradually.
Instantly.
The world went silent… then completely dark.
When I opened my eyes again, I wasn’t at home.
I was lying on a simple bed in a quiet room. The air felt different—cleaner, colder, unfamiliar.
I shot up immediately.
“Where am I?!” I demanded, panic rising in my chest.
The man was sitting near the window.
Calm.
Too calm again.
“You’re safe,” he said softly. “You fainted.”
My breathing was uneven. “Fainted? That’s not possible… I was just—”
I stopped.
The last thing I remembered was his hand… and then darkness.
I looked around quickly. No chains. No signs of harm. Just a plain room, a small table, and a locked door.
My voice dropped. “Did you kidnap me?”
His expression changed slightly—not offended, just tired.
“If I wanted to hurt you, I wouldn’t have brought you somewhere like this,” he replied.
That didn’t fully calm me.
I stood up slowly, keeping distance. “Then where is this place?”
He hesitated for a moment.
“A safe location your father prepared… years ago.”
My heart paused.
“Prepared?” I repeated.
He nodded.
I felt a cold wave run through me.
“So everything… the house… the letter… the condition in the will… all of that was planned?”
He stood up now, taking a slow step closer—but not too close.
“Your father suspected something long before he died,” he said. “He created layers of protection around you. The house was only the first layer.”
My head spun.
“And my stepmother?” I asked sharply. “My stepbrothers? Were they part of this too?”
That question made him pause longer than I liked.
“That’s where things become complicated,” he finally said.
Before I could ask more, a faint vibration came from his pocket.
He checked his phone.
His face changed instantly.
For the first time since I met him… he looked unsettled.
“They found this location faster than expected,” he said quietly.
My stomach dropped.
“Who is ‘they’?” I asked.
He didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he walked to the window and pulled the curtain slightly aside.
Outside… a black vehicle was parked across the street.
And someone inside was watching the building.
My breath caught.
“You said I was safe,” I whispered.
He turned back to me, his voice lower now.
“You were… until you made a choice in front of them.”
My mind raced.
“Who saw me?” I asked.
He didn’t respond right away.
Then he said the words that made my blood run cold:
“Someone inside your father’s house is still reporting your movements.”
My legs weakened slightly.
“No… that’s not possible.”
But even as I said it, I remembered the fear in my stepmother’s eyes.
Not anger.
Not confusion.
Fear.
The man reached for a small bag on the table.
“We have to leave. Now.”
I stepped back. “Leave again? I don’t even know who you are!”
He stopped.
For the first time, his voice softened.
“My name is not the most important thing right now,” he said. “What matters is this—your father didn’t just leave you an inheritance…”
He paused.
“He left you a target.”
A loud knock suddenly came from the front door of the building.
One.
Then another.
Then a voice outside shouted:
“We know she’s inside. Open the door!”
My heart stopped.
The man looked at me one last time.
“Decide quickly,” he said. “Trust me… or face them alone.”
The knocking became louder.
The door handle began to turn.
And in that moment… I realized we were out of time.
