Spiritual Growth(1)

Growth is a sign of Life. It’s the proof of success in investment. It’s the joy of the parent. The trophy of hard work. The Crown of all efforts. Our parents experience much pleasure when we grow up as kids. Growth is not an increase in years. Time is such increase. It does not mean there is any growth.

Spiritual growth ought to be the pursuit of every believer. It’s the proof of discipleship. It is not a right and privilege in Christ. It is no inheritance in Him. It is rather how much we have taken advantage of the same. The Epistles place premium on growth.

The Old Testament foretells and foreshadows salvation.

The four gospels speak of getting saved.

The Epistles focus on growing up spiritually.

Oftentimes preachers keep preaching salvation to believers who aren't growing spiritually. They think another altar call will solve the debacle. They see the believer act like a non-Christian. They doubt his salvation. Though our doubt is of no effect on the finished work. At times we preachers feel probably he was "once saved" but now "unsaved". We have created a loss of salvation and stripped the intercessor, guarantor and saviour of the believer of His role. No person guarantees his salvation. Christ guarantees His Work. You can’t keep what you didn't earn. It’s not in our hands to "keep saved”.

To help the non-growing/ sinning Christian, we must start with teaching him where his salvation came from and the assurance/ guarantee of the same.

Our understanding and simple agreement with the following scriptures will help:

Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The Believer is saved not of performance. This is present tense, not a past action.

Titus 3: 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Hebrews 7: 22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

Jesus is the Guarantor of the New covenant. Unlike the Old which their conduct was to certify, Jesus is the key here!

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

The word uttermost means FOREVER. So if you aren't saved forever, be rest assured that Jesus didn't save you.

Jude 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.

He does the 'KEEPING FROM FALLING'. Thank God He does it perfectly!

Romans 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love for us in Christ. He intercedes and stands surety of our salvation even when we fall short.

1 John 2: 1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Same truth- He is our 'case' Before the Father! We always have a well-argued case FOR us before judgment!

1 Thessalonians 5: 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

The word "I pray" is in italics. It’s a dangerous addition. You don't pray for sanctification. It is God’s work. Paul was affirming the faithfulness of God here. He will keep us wholly and Holy, safely. He will do it. He is faithful.

John 5: 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

This is apt. The believer will NOT come to judgment!

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

In simple terms, this is ETERNAL SECURITY. Every believer should know his salvation isn't in his hands but in Christ's, in the Father. Jesus gives an absolute status here. No one (man there is italicized), Satan inclusive is able to "free us" from salvation!

So every believer must start with this fact.

Hence he will know spiritual growth isn’t an attempt to keep salvation. It’s also not the often aimless pursuit of making heaven!

Just like every concept of growth, it is the pursuit of development, to enjoy the benefits of salvation, to walk in the Light of what Christ has done.

Hence ALL commentaries of growth in the Epistles are toward knowledge!

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

All of Paul’s prayers from the Epistles to the Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, Philemon were prayers for insights into Christ "Done work".

Blessed? Say Christ is the assurance of my salvation. I choose to grow spiritually not as an attempt to justify myself but rather to walk in the benefits of salvation!

Jesus is lord,We win!

A Christian is one committed to faith

It means you are engaging in critical thinking yet not crossing the line over and out of your faith .

The faith of and in God is inspite of my skepticism .

Faith of salvation has an unavowed commitment.
Our allegiance to scriptures is unequivocally staunch .
It allows for belief in science or any form of epistemology without its undermining the faithfulness of scriptures .

It affirms the scriptures and its faith of God as definite, conclusive, unimpeachable and accepting all other knowledge tangent are evolving and can’t be equated with God and His word .

When this is clear cut and not impugned, with or without the bumps in our experiences

We have God’s faith in ours

The Christian life becomes stable

Worship with the Angels...( read patiently )

We have sung songs making reference to Angels and hosts of heaven ,we have sang such songs in much emotion and heart felt passion ,we even say "singing with the Angels "" angels bow before you "

But have we worshiped God truly ?is this true worship ?

Worship refers to approaching God.

The word literally means to come before ,view ,see,be seen of you ,it portends to lay prostrate ,but it's real meaning includes how to praise as well not the music but lyrics and what we mean

Jesus in his discourse with the Woman at the well brings some light to this

John 4:20 KJV
[20] Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

She meant a place to pay obeisance ,this is so as then ,they worshipped God in a place ,it was believed He dwelt in such temples

1 Kings 8:29 KJV
[29] That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.

This was in Jerusalem .So she was referring to the temple .

Jesus' answer was pointed and instructive

John 4:21 KJV
[21] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

Notice two key elements ,very significant

No longer a place or physical location ,to come before God ,to meet with Him,which would include singing

Recall she used fathers but earthly fathers,Jesus changed the nomenclature

Worship the Father

John 4:23-24 KJV
[23] But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
[24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The Father, this worship is Family ,
It's for Sons,
We see Him,sing to Him and Approach the Father ,our songs must follow suit too

It's in the spirit and this is the reality ,not too different elements

Just like john said earlier

John 1:17 KJV
[17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Not grace plus truth ,rather Grace which is truth

So Jesus meant ,the spirit which is reality

We will give us His ,the spirit,His spirit

John 14:17 KJV
[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

It's the spirit of the Family

Romans 8:14-16 KJV
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
[15] For ye have not received the spirit of bo***ge again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
[16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Spirit of the son

Galatians 4:6 KJV
[6] And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

We see Him as Sons see the Father

This is true worship

Not tears and rolling on the floor ,

Even when we bow our knees ,it's as Sons worship ( see and revere ) their Dad

Ephesians 3:14-15 KJV
[14] For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, [15] Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

The family ,is our Family and the Father is our father

Ephesians 2:18 KJV
[18] For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Philippians 3:3 KJV
[3] For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

In Christ Jesus ,this is the truth in His spirit

Philippians 1:19 KJV
[19] For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

Not the Old Testament use of things and ceremonies

We lift our hands without fault

1 Timothy 2:8 KJV
[8] I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Our hands are holy ,because we are

We present our bodies ,which a living sacrifice ,

Romans 12:1 KJV
[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Notice it's not as,but it is ,present means to " display or exhibit ", the true state of something

This is true worship ,reasonable service

This is true worship

Christ gave us true worship...,it not what we do

But who we are which inspires what we do .

Any form of singing contrary to this is not true worship

Angels can't dare such worship ,

They don't even have the knowledge and capacity

Hebrews 1:5 KJV
[5] For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

They aren't and can't be sons

They worship as servants

Hebrews 1:6-7 KJV
[6] And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
[7] And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

They worship God in His son ,as servants

They are seeing God in His son

1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
[16] And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

The term " Godliness " means "to come to for " its synonym for worship ,service ,

They see Him in the flesh ,before now God was a mystery to Angels ,

His plan was and still is

1 Peter 1:12 KJV
[12] Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

They still long to See Gods revelation ,only found in the gospel ..

We are its stewards and we owe them to teach them

Ephesians 3:9-10 KJV
[9] And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
[10] To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Made known by the Church to the principalities and powers, beings ,

We mustn't be found singing " we join the Angels "

Or include Angels in our songs

Revelation 19:10 KJV
[10] And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Worship God with the testimony of Jesus !,

The spirit of all Inspired words ,the Old Testament .

Song writers should take note of this. So we won't be aiding and abetting false worship ,in our songs

We now stand and sing by Him,confessing His name

Hebrews 13:15 KJV
[15] By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

His name is ours

Hebrews 2:11-12 KJV
[11] For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
12] Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

We are brethren ,One Father,so we sing our identification in Christ ,that's true worship

Not like servants under the Old Testament

All the elements of worship in the Old Testament ,the physical coloration have all been consumed

Hebrews 12:27-29 KJV
[27] And this word , Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
[28] Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear
: [29] For our God is a consuming fire.

It's now a new and living way

In Christ

We are now Sons In His glory

Hebrews 2:10 KJV
[10] For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

To see Angels in your worship and so sing is false humility and stepping on the wrong toes

Colossians 2:18 KJV
[18] Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Things from your fleshly minds

To see God as one with" power like thunder" or "lion the husband of pharaoh "means you refused to hear Jesus the Son

Matthew 17:5 KJV
[5] While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

He reveals the Father

John 5:37 KJV
[37] And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

John 1:18 KJV
[18] No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Enough of nicknames and misrepresented badges or cultural Appellations,

He is our Father ,who is our God,vice versa

Not so to Angels or characters of the Old Testament

To worship with Angels will mean we come as Angels ,lying against ourselves and deceiving ourselves ,

We worship as sons

John 20:17 KJV
[17] Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Angels bowing before Him as what ? They don't even know Him
We do
He's our Father

So let's worship Him as such

This is in spirit ,which is reality

Seen this ?

Let me know

I call you blessed

Service (1)

How available are we in the House of God? Did you attend Sunday’s service and did not participate in the service unto others? Did the chairs, sound equipment, pulpit serve more than you did?
Are you claiming a busy schedule or the cosmopolitan nature of your residence as an excuse?
Yet we find time to run around to make money and satisfy our desires!

Service in the House of God is greatness in God’s kingdom.

Let’s hear Jesus.
Matthew 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. 21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. 22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. 23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. 24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren. 25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Just like the mother of the two disciples above, we have thought that influence is greatness. That position is glory and honour. The other disciples were not any better.

They must have desired same.

Jesus answered all, 'To be GREAT IS TO SERVE.'

Notice, He didn't call service the "way" to greatness. That’s the manipulative theory of this world. People serve to acquire positions in future.

They serve under a pastor for positions in Church, for promotion at work! For God to bless them!

We have missed the mark!

When we serve, in God’s eyes we are great! We have learnt influence from the world. We are not from this world. We are like Jesus.
Philippians 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Thus in the House of God, we must be seen available for others to "use" us. To call on us. To ask and receive from us.

We must serve. Without humility we cannot serve.

No matter who you are in the corporate world or in government.

In Christ, to be great is to lay all that aside and serve!
1 Corinthians 9: 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

It’s a choice. You are free.

Yet you make yourself available for others.
Whatever you do in God’s house, do it with the mindset that it’s for Jesus.
If you clean chairs, clean because HE will be sitting on it.
If you sing, sing for Him.
If you handle security, take care of His belongings.

It’s for Him.

Mathew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you brought Me together with yourselves and welcomed and entertained and lodged Me, 36 I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me with help and ministering care, I was in prison and you came to see Me. 37 Then the just and upright will answer Him, Lord, when did we see You hungry and gave You food, or thirsty and gave You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger and welcomed and entertained You, or naked and clothed You? 39 And when did we see You sick or in prison and came to visit You? 40 And the King will reply to them, Truly I tell you, in so far as you did it for one of the least [in the estimation of men] of these My brethren, you did it for Me. 41 Then He will say to those at His left hand, Begone from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels! 42 For I was hungry and you gave Me no food, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome Me and entertain Me, I was naked and you did not clothe Me, I was sick and in prison and you did not visit Me with help and ministering care. 44 Then they also [in their turn] will answer, Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? 45 And He will reply to them, Solemnly I declare to you, in so far as you failed to do it for the least [in the estimation of men] of these, you failed to do it for Me. (Amplified Bible)

So serve Him! Everything you do in God's house must be done as unto Him! Get involved in your Church today.

Make yourself available. Be humble. Serve.
This is greatness. No more.

You have a great week ahead,We win !
Jesus is lord ,I call you blessed
