ASH WEDNESDAY – A CALL TO RETURN TO GOD 🤍🕊️

“For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Ecclesiasticus 3:20)

Today marks the beginning of the Lenten journey, A sacred season of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, sober reflection, and true repentance.

As we receive the Ash on our foreheads, we are reminded of our mortality, our need for God’s mercy, and the call to live a transformed life.

Let this Ash Wednesday not be just a tradition, but a moment of personal renewal, a time to turn away from sin and draw closer to God with sincere hearts.

DUST WE ARE AND DUST WE SHALL RETURN.

Ash Wednesday is a solemn day of fasting, prayer, and repentance marking the start of the 40-day journey to Easter. Ashes, made from blessed palm branches from the previous year, are applied to the forehead as a public sign of mortality, humility, and penance.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ASH WEDNESDAY/LENT.

Repentance & Conversion:
It calls for a "turning away from sin and returning to God," serving as an invitation to interior conversion and spiritual renewal.
Mortality:
The imposition of ashes symbolizes human fragility and mortality, recalling the phrase, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return".
Preparation for Easter:
It initiates the Lenten season, a time for fasting, prayer, and almsgiving (the three pillars of Lent) to prepare for the resurrection of Jesus.
Sign of Grace:
While a day of fasting, it is also a sign of hope, acknowledging the need for God's mercy.

V+R:Saint Jude, glorious apostle, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor has caused you to be forgotten by many, but the true church invokes you universally as the patron of things despaired of; pray for me, that finally I may receive the consolation and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (Request)and that I may bless God with the elect throughout eternity.

Oh saint Jude Thaddeus, cousin of Jesus Christ, glorious apostle and martyr, renowned for virtues and miracles, faithful and prompt intercessor of all who honor you and trust in you. You are a powerful patron and helper in grievous afflictions. I come to you and entreat you from the depths of my heart to come to my aid with your powerful intercession for you have received from God the privilege to assist those who almost despair of all hopes. Look down upon me, my life of crosses, my days are days of tribulations and my paths are strewn with thorns and scarcely one moment passes but is a witness of my tears and sighs. Overwhelmed by these thoughts, I see myself surrounded by a dark cloud. You cannot forsake me in this sad plight. I will not depart from you until you have heard me. O hasten to my aid. I wil be grateful to you all my life. I honor you as my special patron, I wil thank God for the graces bestowed upon you and wil propagate your honour according to my power. *Amen* .

St. Jude, through prayer you raised God for the wonderful works of Jesus.You asked God for the strength to meet the chalenges of your apostolate. You put your trust in God’s mercy, believing firmy that God
loved you and understood your joys and sorrows, your hopes and fears and your triumphs and failures. You understood that nothing is impossible for God. I asked you to pray for me now before the most high so that I too might be filled with God’s will for me and faithfully place myself in God’s loving hands. *Amen.*
