The Unfaithful King Manasseh:
Manasseh was 12 years when he began to reign, 55 years longest reign.
He rebuilt high places Hezekiah destroyed, built altars for Baal in House of the LORD, made his son pass through fire, dealt with familiar spirits.
God said "I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish" v13.

Exegesis:
Manasseh tithed his time, treasure, talent to idols, not to Elohim.
He is picture of covenant child who knows truth but sells it.
His sin defiled temple itself.

Paul's Warning to Covenant People:
v1-4
Our fathers baptized into Moses, ate spiritual meat, drank from Rock which was Christ. v6-11

Yet God was not pleased with many, they fell in wilderness. v13 "
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able."[pistos]

Theological Lesson:
Unfaithfulness is not new. Israel had Eucharist before Eucharist and still fell. Covenant without faithfulness becomes judgment. BUT
1 Cor 10:13 is El-Emunah in
New Testament -
He provides way of escape. Manasseh later repented in
2 Chron 33:12-13 in Babylonian prison. Faithful God restores even Manasseh.

Apostolic Connection:
Paul uses Exodus as our story. Apostolic church saw themselves as new Israel in wilderness.

Application:
Examine where we rebuilt what God destroyed - returning to idols of greed, immorality, ancestral altars. Fasting today is pulling down high places in our lives.

Isaiah 39
Hezekiah's Pride:
After healing, envoys from Babylon come. Hezekiah shows all his treasure - silver, gold, spices, armory. Isaiah says all will be carried to Babylon.

Exegesis:
Hezekiah was faithful in crisis, unfaithful in prosperity.
He tithed treasure to show off to heathens instead of to God.
Pride after blessing is dangerous.

Matthew 12:22-37
The Unpardonable Sin:
Jesus heals blind dumb demoniac. Pharisees say "He casts out by Beelzebub."
Jesus: "Every sin shall be forgiven... but blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven.
By
Thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words condemned."

Theological Lesson:
Link is clear - Hezekiah's treasure-display was speaking pride, Pharisees' words were speaking blasphemy.

God watches how we use treasure and tongue.
Talent must not become performance.

El-Emunah is faithful to judge careless words. v36
"Every idle word men shall give account."

Apostolic Connection:

same sin as Hezekiah -
showing treasure for applause. Apostles confronted it with death because Holy Ghost is faithful to purity of Church.

Application:
Our commitment of Treasure must be secret unto God, not show.

Psalm 79:

Matthew 18:1-10 -
Guardian Angels:
"Whoso shall humble himself as this little child... Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father."

Exegesis:
Baruch and Ps 79 are liturgies of exile - result of Manasseh's sin. But Matthew 18 gives hope:

God assigns Guardian Angel to each little one. Even in exile, Emunah does not abandon.

Theological Lesson:
This is Covenant Faithfulness in judgment. He sends us into Babylon for discipline, but assigns angels to watch over us there.

Fasting makes us little children - humble, dependent.

Apostolic Connection:
Early Church read Baruch in Holy Saturday vigil.
Matthew 18 is foundation of angelology - Apostolic Fathers like St. Basil taught Guardian Angel doctrine from this text.

Application:
Night vigil is for intercession for Ebonyi little ones - girls trafficked, boys lost to drugs. Their angels are crying. Our Talent must rescue them.

These words of the Apostle Peter echo the heartbeat of our Synod theme 2026: Consistency in Faithfulness and Holiness.
As we delve into the richness of God's Word, let's explore the depths of holiness and its implications for our lives.

Body of Sermon / Admoniton
1. The Hebrew Concept of Holiness: Qodesh (קֹדֶשׁ)*

The Hebrew word "qodesh" conveys the idea of being set apart, separated from sin and dedicated to God.
In
Psalms 19,
David declares,
"The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul"
(Psalm 19:7).

This psalm highlights God's desire for us to live a life of holiness, reflecting His character.

2. The Greek Imperative: Hagios (ἅγιος)

The Greek word "hagios" emphasizes the importance of being holy and set apart for God's purposes.
In
I Thessalonians 1:4-5,
Paul commends the believers for their "work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope"
(I Thessalonians 1:3).

As followers of Christ, we are called to be "hagios" - holy and set apart, living a life that honors God.
