Today's,
Sermon / Admonition
On
Thursday, (Eke) 8th January
------
From
Synod Theme 2026
“Consistency in Faithfulness and Holiness”
------
Topic :,
A Call to Sanctified Living
------
Prepared by
Continuing Missionary Seminary (CMS)
For
The Continuing Christians
------
Introduction
"Be holy, for I am holy"
(I Peter 1:16).
These words of the Apostle Peter echo the heartbeat of our Synod theme 2026: Consistency in Faithfulness and Holiness.
As we delve into the richness of God's Word, let's explore the depths of holiness and its implications for our lives.
------
Body of Sermon / Admoniton
1. The Hebrew Concept of Holiness: Qodesh (קֹדֶשׁ)*

The Hebrew word "qodesh" conveys the idea of being set apart, separated from sin and dedicated to God.
In
Psalms 19,
David declares,
"The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul"
(Psalm 19:7).

This psalm highlights God's desire for us to live a life of holiness, reflecting His character.
------
2. The Greek Imperative: Hagios (ἅγιος)

The Greek word "hagios" emphasizes the importance of being holy and set apart for God's purposes.
In
I Thessalonians 1:4-5,
Paul commends the believers for their "work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope"
(I Thessalonians 1:3).

As followers of Christ, we are called to be "hagios" - holy and set apart, living a life that honors God.
------
3. Latin Vulgate: Sanctitas

The Latin word "sanctitas" conveys the idea of being holy, sacred, and dedicated to God. In
Jeremiah 7,
The prophet calls the people to repentance, urging them to "put away their wickedness" and "learn to do good"
(Jeremiah 7:3-5).
------
4.Igbo Translation

Ịdị na-adịghị na-ekwesị ntụkọ na Ịdị Nsọ: Oku ka Ị Di na Ndụ Nsọ
------
Exegesis
1. Psalm 19
traditionally ascribed to David, a king whose life swung between triumph and failure.
Its placement after Psalm 18 (victory) marks a transition from deliverance to daily obedience.

2. Genesis 8
The post‑flood covenant with Noah.
The narrative illustrates God’s ḥesed that endures beyond catastrophe and calls humanity to *consistent* obedience.

3. John 4
Set in Samaria, a cultural crossroads. Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman demonstrates that *grace* breaks ethnic barriers, urging the Church to *consistent* mission.

4. Jeremiah 7
delivered in the temple, warning that *external worship*
without
*ethical holiness* is empty.

5. 1 Thessalonians
Paul’s encouragement to a persecuted community; his emphasis on
*faith that works* is a blueprint for consistent witness.
------
Note
The Psalmist’s proclamation establishes the unchanging character of God – the firm foundation for our theme
of
consistent faithfulness
------
Practical Lessons (Applicatio)
1.
- Begin each day with
Psalm 19
Meditate on God’s Ḥesed and ask the Holy Spirit to manifest charis in every conversation
(John 4:27‑54).

2. Covenant Discipline
Noah’s Example
- Identify one daily covenant
(e.g., Scripture reading, prayer, or service).

3. Holiness in the Marketplace
Jeremiah’s Rebuke
- Examine your professional conduct. Does it reflect sanctity ?
------
Conclusion
As we reflect on the theme "Consistency in Faithfulness and Holiness," let's recommit ourselves to living a life that honors God. May our pursuit of holiness be a beacon of hope in a world that often values compromise and mediocrity.
------
3 Prayer Points:

1.
Lord-God, help us to be "qodesh"
set apart and dedicated to Your purposes, living a life that reflects Your holiness

2.
Heavenly Father,
mpower us to be "hagios"
holy and set apart, walking in obedience to Your Word and honoring You in all we do.

3.
Spirit of God, ignite in us a passion for consistency in faithfulness and holiness, that we may reflect the beauty of Christ to our world.
------
Closing Prayer
Lord, help us to be "qodesh" - set apart and dedicated to Your purposes, living a life that reflects Your holiness. Amen.

Ọnyenwe, nyere anyị aka ka anyị bụrụ "hagios" - dị nsọ na ịdị iche, na-ebi ndụ na-asọpụrụ Gị. Amen.

-----
INTRODUCTION
The Bishop is called first to be faithful and holy in the order of importance.

The House and College of Bishops refers to a group of senior church leaders who oversee and govern the church.

They are spiritual leaders, teachers, and administrators who have been appointed to positions of authority.

- Meaning: The term "bishop" comes from the Greek word "episkopos," meaning "overseer" or "one who watches over." Bishops are responsible for watching over the flock of God, providing guidance, teaching, and leadership.
-----
Definition & Meaning
The “House of Bishops” is the episcopal order – the collective of ordained bishops who, by apostolic succession, share in the episkope (oversight) of the universal Church.

The term “college” emphasizes their collegial solidarity with CHRIST JESUS
or
Bishop of Roman Catholic
or
Bishop of English Catholic
or
Bishop of Orthodox Catholic
(or the patriarch in other traditions).
