SAINT OF THE DAY — ST. MAXIMILIAN MARY KOLBE

Today, 14 August, the Catholic Church celebrates St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, Franciscan priest, missionary, publisher, Marian devotee and courageous Martyr of Charity.

Born in Poland in 1894, St. Maximilian gave his entire life to Christ through a deep love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. From his early years, he desired to bring souls closer to Jesus through Mary.

He joined the Conventual Franciscan Order and was ordained a priest in 1918. With an extraordinary missionary spirit, he founded the Militia Immaculata, encouraging people to consecrate themselves to Mary and live boldly for Christ.

He also understood the power of communication. Through newspapers, magazines and other forms of media, he worked tirelessly to spread the Catholic faith and the message of the Gospel.

A HEROIC ACT OF LOVE

During the Second World War, St. Maximilian was arrested by the N***s and eventually imprisoned at Auschwitz concentration camp.

In July 1941, after a prisoner escaped, ten men were selected to die by starvation as punishment. One of those chosen cried out that he had a wife and children.

St. Maximilian stepped forward and offered his own life in exchange for that man’s life.

He entered the starvation bunker with the other prisoners, where he continued to pray and encourage them. After surviving for several weeks, he was killed by a lethal injection on 14 August 1941.

He gave his life for another—and became a powerful witness to the words of Christ:

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
— John 15:13

THE LESSON OF HIS LIFE

St. Maximilian Kolbe reminds us that holiness is not simply about what we say, but about how much we are willing to love, serve, forgive and sacrifice.

His life challenges us to ask:

Can I choose love when it costs me something?
Can I serve Christ even when it is difficult?
Can I become a light to someone who is suffering?

May we learn from St. Maximilian to love Christ courageously, remain faithful in suffering, and place our lives at the service of others.

THE GOSPEL CALLS US TO FORGIVE

Today, Jesus gives us a powerful lesson about forgiveness and mercy.

In the Gospel, Peter asks Jesus:

“Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?”

Jesus answers:

“Not seven, I tell you, but seventy-seven times.”

📖 Matthew 18:21–19:1

Jesus is not simply asking us to count how many times we forgive. He is teaching us that Christian forgiveness should not have a limit.

We often want to hold on to hurt, anger and resentment. But Christ reminds us that we ourselves constantly depend on God’s mercy.

If God continues to forgive us, we too must learn to forgive others.

Today, let us ask ourselves:

Who do I need to forgive?
What bitterness am I still carrying?
Am I willing to show others the same mercy God shows me?

Lord Jesus, soften our hearts, heal our wounds, and give us the grace to forgive from the heart. Amen.

May God’s mercy and peace remain with every member of our parish family today.

✝️📖 GOSPEL OF THE DAY | WEDNESDAY, 12TH AUGUST 2026
Wednesday of the 19th Week in Ordinary Time

📖 Gospel: Matthew 18:15–20

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
— Matthew 18:20

Today, Jesus teaches us an important lesson about how we should live with one another as members of His family.

When a brother or sister wrongs us, Jesus does not encourage anger, gossip, public humiliation or revenge. Instead, He calls us to approach the person with love and speak to them privately. This is the way of fraternal correction—not correcting someone to condemn them, but to help them return to the right path and restore the relationship.

As Christians, we are called to be people who build, not destroy; people who reconcile, not divide; people who correct with love and forgive with humility.

Jesus also reminds us of the power of unity in prayer. He tells us that when two or three are gathered in His name, He is present among them. This is a beautiful reminder that our parish community is not simply a gathering of people—we are a family united in Christ.

May we learn to listen to one another, forgive one another, correct one another with love, and pray for one another.

Today, let us ask ourselves:

Do I correct others with love or with anger?
Do I seek reconciliation when there is conflict?
Do my words bring peace or create division?
Do I value the unity of my Christian community?

May Christ help us to become a parish community where love is stronger than disagreement, forgiveness is greater than offence, and prayer keeps us united.

Lord Jesus, teach us to love one another, forgive one another, and remain united in You. May Your presence always remain in our homes, our parish and our community. Amen.

MEMORIAL OF ST. CLARE OF ASSISI

Today, we joyfully celebrate St. Clare of Assisi, Virgin, a woman whose life was completely centered on Christ.

Born around 1194 in Assisi, Italy, Clare was born into a wealthy family, but she chose to leave behind a life of comfort to follow Jesus.

Inspired by the example of St. Francis of Assisi, she dedicated herself to a life of prayer, poverty, simplicity, and total trust in God. She later founded the community known today as the Poor Clares, a religious order dedicated to prayer and the service of God.

Clare was known for her deep love for the Blessed Sacrament and her strong faith in the power and protection of Christ. Even during difficult moments, she remained firm in her trust in God.

DID YOU KNOW?

St. Clare was a close spiritual companion of St. Francis of Assisi.

She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, now known as the Poor Clares.

She lived a life of radical poverty and prayer, choosing Christ above worldly riches.

She had a profound devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

She became one of the great women saints of the Franciscan tradition and a powerful example of faith, humility, and perseverance.

St. Clare teaches us that true wealth is not found in what we possess, but in how completely we give our hearts to God.

May her example inspire us to seek Jesus above everything else and remain faithful to Him, especially when life becomes difficult.

🔥❤️‍🔥 FEAST OF ST. LAWRENCE, DEACON & MARTYR ❤️‍🔥🔥

Today, we celebrate St. Lawrence, a faithful deacon of the Church of Rome who served God and the poor with courage, humility, and love.

St. Lawrence lived in the 3rd century and served as one of the deacons of Pope Sixtus II. He was entrusted with caring for the Church’s goods and helping the poor and needy. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Valerian, Lawrence was arrested and eventually gave his life for Christ around 258 AD.

When he was asked to present the treasures of the Church, he presented the poor and suffering, saying in essence: “These are the treasures of the Church.” 🙏

His life reminds us that true greatness is found in serving God, caring for others, and remaining faithful even in difficult times.

“Whoever serves me must follow me.”

🙏🏽 SUNDAY GOSPEL | 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time ✝️

Today, Jesus reminds us to stay ready and faithful, because we do not know when the Master will come. ❤️‍🔥

The message is simple: Don’t let your faith sleep. Keep praying, keep serving, keep trusting God. 🙏🏽

As we gather for Holy Mass today, may we have hearts that are always ready for Christ.

Lord, help us to remain faithful and watchful. 🕊️

SAINT OF THE DAY | ST. DOMINIC OF GUZMÁN

Today, we celebrate St. Dominic of Guzmán, priest and founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). ✝️

Born in Spain around 1170, St. Dominic grew up with a deep love for God and a strong desire to serve the Church. He became a priest and dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel, teaching the faith, prayer, and helping people come closer to Christ.

In 1216, he founded the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans, whose mission was to spread the truth of the Gospel through preaching, study, and a life of prayer.

St. Dominic was also deeply devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary, and his life remains an example of how faith, prayer, and evangelization can transform lives.

Today, may we learn from his example to pray deeply, live our faith boldly, and never be afraid to share Christ with others. 🙏
