TOPIC: LORD, VINDICATE ME!
TEXT: Gen 20:1-7,13,14,16; Psa 34:6; 35:24.
To vindicate means to clear someone from blame, guilt, or suspicion.
It is to declare a person innocent after being unjustly accused or punished for an offense he didn’t commit.
In this message, I’m going to look at vindication from four angles:
* As God’s rescue mission to one who is in danger.
* As a divine intervention when all human resources of help have failed.
* As a time of divine restoration for all the losses a person incurred due to false allegations against him.
* Finally, it is God’s approval and declaration that one is innocent of the injustice done to him.
WHO NEEDS VINDICATION?
There are many instances where people need divine vindication apart from the two examples in our text; a poor man and innocent victims of circumstance.
1. The poor man cried out, and the Lord heard and saved him out of all his troubles. (Psa 34:6).
2. Sarah, Abraham’s wife, was a victim of circumstance.
There was a great famine in the land of Mamre, and Abraham and Sarah went to Abimelech in Gerar for a refuge. For fear of being killed by some evil men, the couple agreed to tell lies, and not knowing that it might turn into a “trade by barter,” Abimelech took Sarah to be his wife.
Abraham didn’t resist or tell the king the truth when he saw that his wife was going to be Abimelech’s concubine, but God intervened and restrained Abimelech from touching her the period she was living under his roof. God finally rebuked the king and asked him to restored Sarah to Abraham. He then gave Abraham a thousand pieces of silver and other gifts for Sarah’s vindication of Sarah accusation of adultery (Vs 3, 5, 6, 16).
3. Those who are sitting in the dark places of life, whose conditions, circumstances and situations have brought mockery, disgrace and disrespect upon them. Micah 7:8 says, “Do not rejoice over me my enemy; when I fall I will rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.” God will vindicate you this month if you are down or in the dark places of your life.
4. Those God will vindicate include those whose prayers have not been answered despite their faithfulness and commitment to God. Lk 18:1-8. In Vs 5, the judge who did not fear God and did not regard man said, “Even though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection”. God will give you legal protection from all spiritual attacks and unanswered prayers, in Jesus name.
5. God will vindicate all those who have attracted a curse because of their being too kind and have ignorantly helped an accursed person. (2 Chron 18:28-31; 19:1-2). Ahab lured Jehoshaphat into a war he was not supposed to fight because of his kind heart. Ahab disguised himself and went to the battle, but Jehoshaphat went to the war with his own royal apparel, and nearly lost his life, but God rescued and vindicated him.
6. God will vindicate all those who have been under the watching eyes of monitoring spirits that are responsible for frequent demonic and enemy’s attacks. (Psa 35:24).
7. Finally, God is going to vindicate the rejected, downtrodden, the poor and the disadvantaged people. (Gen 21:9-10, 15-19). Ishmael was mocking when Abraham made a great feast for Isaac, and Sarah insisted that Hagar and her son must be sent out of the house, and God told Abraham to do so. When they were sent out they wandered in the wilderness until their water finished, and Hagar abandoned Ishmael to die of dehydration. But when Ishmael cried, God opened Hagar’s eyes to see a well of water that sustained them. God never neglects the cry of the less privileged in the society.
LIFE APPLICATION.
God intervened and vindicated Abraham and Sarah despite their lies because of the covenant He had with the family.
* God will go to any length to vindicate you if you’re His covenant child.
* God will vindicate you because of His loving kindness and compassion. As a believer, the blood of Jesus has covered your past, present and future sins.
* If you don’t faint in the days of adversity, God will vindicate you. Therefore, never allow famine or any adverse condition to intimidate you, and never compromise your faith in the face of challenges.
Gen 20:16 indicates that divine vindication has gifts attached to it, and they include divine restoration and favour. To Sarah he (Abimelech) said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; indeed this vindicates you before all who are with you and before everybody.” Thus she was rebuked.’” There are gifts attached when God vindicates a person, and it is my prayer that all of us who have been faithful to God will be vindicated this month, in the name of Jesus.
PRAYERS. Ps. 35:24
1. “Vindicate me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and let not my enemies rejoice over me,” in the name of Jesus.
2. Let my enemies be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion. Let those who have rejoiced over my predicament, be clothed with shame and dishonour, in the name of Jesus.
3. Father, as a mark of your vindication, let me not see the old seasons of evil occurrences in my life and family anymore, in the name of Jesus.
4. Lord, I am poor and needy, save me and my family as you saved the poor. Let all my budget prayer points be answered before 20th Dec, 2026, as my vindication gift, in the name of Jesus.
5. Let my life begin to evidence divine approval and favour from now forward, in the name of Jesus.
