Today is the Seventh Sunday of Easter.

During Mass this morning, four of our brothers were instituted into the ministry of Acolyte. This ministry draws them closer to the altar and offers them the opportunity to contemplate more deeply the mystery of the Eucharist as their journey toward the priesthood progresses. The Regional Superior, Very Rev. Fr. Fortunato Romeo, CRS, reminded them that the ministry of Acolyte is strictly one of service: first, at the altar of the Eucharist; and second, to the people of God, especially the poor.

May God bestow upon them sufficient grace to remain faithful always to their new ministry.

The Lord has gone up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast. All peoples clap your hands and sing praise to the Lord for all the authority, power and dominion belong to him, both now, in all ages and times to come Amen!

ASCENSION THURSDAY

The Ascension of the Lord reveals the glorification of Christ and the fulfillment of His earthly mission. Jesus returns to the Father in glory, not to abandon His disciples, but to open the way for humanity into divine life. In the Ascension, the Church contemplates the mystery that where Christ the Head has gone, the members of His Body are called to follow. It is therefore a feast of hope, victory, and heavenly destiny.

Before ascending, Jesus promised the apostles the gift of the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, who would strengthen and guide the Church in her mission. Thus, the Ascension is not an end, but the beginning of the apostolic mission empowered by the Spirit. The disciples are sent into the world to bear witness to Christ, while keeping their hearts fixed on the realities of heaven where Christ reigns at the right hand of the Father.

On this day 8th of May in 2025, Robert Cardinal Francis Prevost was elected the 267th successor of St Peter and the Roman Supreme Pontiff. Today marks exactly one year after his election. Therefore we say congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his one year anniversary. May our Lord Jesus Christ continue to sustain him in his pontificate and grant that the world leaders harken to his resound call for peace in the world.

Today we celebrate the birthday of Somascan Order

457 years ago, on 29 April 1569, in the orphanage of San Martino in Milan, in the presence of Cesare Gambara, Bishop of Tortona, Fr. Angiolmarco Gambarana of Monte Segale, Fr. Vincenzo Trotti of Borgo Franco, Fr. Francesco Spaur of Trento, Fr. Giovanni Scotti of Brescia, Fr. Bernardino Castellani of Val Camonica, Fr. Reginaldo Piacentini of Salò, professed their solemn vows.
According to an ancient tradition, the Clerics Regular of Somasca (commonly called the Somascan Fathers) remember 29 April as the birthday of their Congregation and on that day they celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving and devoutly renew their vows.

As we renewed our commitments to religious life in the Somascan Order, we ask God to strengthen all the religious of our Order so that they will be faithful witness of the Gospel and the charism of St Jerome Emiliani our founder in the contemporary world Amen! 🙏
