DAILY GRACE, FRIDAY, MAY 3RD, 2024.
MY DELIVERANCE IS HERE
TEXT: JOHN.5:1-9
VERSE OF THE DAY:.. _"JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, “RISE, TAKE UP YOUR BED, AND GO BYE”! JOHN.5:8._
Let us unveil some striking truths from our text today as regards bo***ge and deliverance.
First, notice in verse 2 that the place of this incident Bethesda was called the sheep market. But it was originally called sheep gate in Israel, Neh. 3:1. This fact is a pointer to the truth that when the “defence” of a saint is broken down, his life turns from a fenced city with a GATE into a MARKET where any devil can come in and cause mayhem.
Next, whenever the devil targets to bring a saint down, he attacks him in five major areas of his life viz: Family, health, finance, social and spiritual lives. A careful examination of the man in our texts reveals that satan attacked him in all five areas of his life. His health was in shamble vs 5; Friends and family were nowhere to help vs 7; there was no money for medical care, and his spiritual life was already a mess, vs 14.
There are four categories of captives found in Bethesda:
1. THE BLIND Vs 2: These have lost their vision. They have no sense of purpose and direction anymore.
2. THE HALTING vs 2: These have either temporarily or permanently broken down; they have ceased to flow in life.
3. THE WITHERED Vs 2: These are paralyzed and dried up in life.
4. IMPOTENT Vs 2, 7: This was the state of the man in our case study. Such men are powerless, unable to produce any results.
Now, what are the steps to getting the deliverance you so desire, as postulated in our text today?
1. ASK AND ANSWER YOURSELF SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS OF LIFE: Do you really want to be made whole or do you want to remain in your circumstance and get people’s pity always? verse 6. You should be able to fathom some possible questions and answers to your predicaments before you can move your destiny forward.
2. GET UP! Vs 8: Until you stand up, nothing will stand in your life. A 430-year captivity was exterminated once Israel arose. The four lepers of Samaria got their solution when they resolved to arise, 2Kgs, 7:3-15.
3. TAKE UP YOUR BED Vs 8: This mattress by now must have been a mess having laid on it for the past 38 years. So to take up your bed connotes to: (1) Clear your mess. (2) Eradicate your lazy points. (3) Tell yourself “I have not arrived yet” (4) Give yourself no holiday until you break through or succeed.
4. GO! Vs 8: Many are moving, but only a few are advancing. You are not advancing unless you have a target: only then can you know how far/close you are to your destination. So, where are you going? Where are you now? Can you now see and grasp the deliverance you so desire?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, push me out of my comfort/captivity zone in Jesus' name, Amen.
