BIBLE STUDY GUIDELINE
TEXT: ISAIAH 60:1-3; Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and His glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. (NIV)
TOPIC: Arise and Shine.
INTRODUCTION
The word ARISE in the dictionary means ‘to come up from a lower to a higher position, basically it means to ‘get up, appear, or come into being’.
Now, to arise and shine is a call from the Lord to awake from spiritual sleep, and not just to awake but to arise and shine, the heart of God is that His sons should live to shine forth His glory, because that is the essence of their being.
That is why the Lord was speaking in Isaiah 43:21 He said; this people I have formed for myself. (you can see that the Lord purposely formed us for Himself) They will show forth my praise. (in this verse the Lord is been very specific to why He formed us) (NKJV). That is the expectation of God to us His pe ople, that we may show forth His praise or glory, anything less than this (showing forth His praise or glory) we have fail.
Unless we live to show forth His praise no unbeliever will see a reason to come to our light. Unless there is light to shine darkness remain,
Unbelievers are darkness and the Lord is calling on us to arise and shine so the unbelievers could see and come to our light,
May the Lord help us in Jesus Name, Amen!
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Why must we (the believers) arise and shine Isaiah 60:1? Shining forth is a mandate.
2. Why did darkness cover the earth Gen 1:1-3?
3. Why do we have to shine Isaiah 60:3?
4. Why is it necessary for us to shine?
Conclusion: one thing you must take to heart is “the Lord desires you to arise and shine” and one thing that has been a hindrance to the believer’s shining forth is sin, brother, sister, search yourself what is that secret sin that won’t just let you shine forth, the LORD is calling on you, the Bible says in GALATIANS 5:19; when you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, (NLT)
So long as you are control by the desires of the sinful nature “rising to shine” will be very impossible for you, Let rise up as we pray: let your cry be Lord! Have mercy on me, help me to rise and shine.
