TEXT: Acts 2:42
BIBLE REF(S): Jude 1:3-4
CONTEXT:
To continue in simple terms means to keep doing something or resume something after a pause. To continue involves abiding and perseverance. Acts 2:42 mentioned that the early believers did not only practice these practices (teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer, the word) occasionally, they also remained steadfast. A strong Christian life is not built on what we start but what we do faithfully and steadfastly.
7 Areas in which we have to continue
📍Continue in the faith (Acts 14:22): Building a strong faith in God is important because trials and tribulations will rise but the level of our faith in God will determine our strength to continue.
📍Continue in the grace of God: The grace of God is sufficient to all according to the nature of your grace. it can be grace in diverse patterns, either to sing, dance, give etc. Grace is sub divided into stages;
*Glorious and great: This is a grace that is sufficient in ways we cannot comprehend. This grace brings life, good health, peace, wealth etc. without having to toil for it
*Bitterness in grace: This kind of grace allows one to pass through difficulty and temptation before it manifest (Acts 13:43)
📍Continue in the goodness of God (Romans 2:21
📍Continue in the word of God (John 8:31): The word of God is God himself, it supersedes everything and bring us closer to God. The word of God is salvation, light, victory. It teaches us not to be unequally yoked with the world but accept Jesus Christ alone. The word describes “WORLD” as acronym for:
W - Wickedness
O - Offense
R - Rebellious
L - Lust
D - Death
📍Continue in Apostle’s doctrine (Fellowship and breaking of bread) Acts 2: 42: It includes the teachings of the Apostolic church which are:
*The church tenet
*The rules of conduct
*The rules of belief
These three doctrines bind the church together and make us one body in Christ.
📍Continue in Prayer (Colossians 4:2): Prayer is the key to everything. It strengthens our relationship with God, gives us direction and helps us remain faithful during difficult times. Continue in prayer is an encouragement to remain consistent, trusting God and seeking His will in every situation.
📍Continue in Love (Matthew 22:39-42): Love is considered the greatest amongst all because God Himself is love. By continuing in love, we show absolute respect to God’s commandment. Love does not discriminate, it does not boast, envy or jealous. Love is pure and free and does not depend on ethnicity or status.
In conclusion, to continue demands focus and concentration. God has provided us with all it takes to continue walking with him and all we have to do is believe and follow His steps.
