“YOU ARE ORDAINED TO PREPARE PEOPLE FOR CHRIST’S RETURN,” OPARA CHARGES ORDINANDS

Today, May 2, 2026, marked a historic moment in the life of the Cross River Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as two ministers were ordained into the full gospel ministry and conferred with full ecclesiastical authority.

Leading the ordination service, the President of the Eastern Nigeria Union Conference (ENUC), Pastor Onyebuchi T. Opara, charged Pastors Odor Victor T. and Uti Amang E. to remain steadfast in their divine calling. He emphasized that their primary responsibility is to prepare people for the second coming of Christ, reminding them that ministry is not merely a profession but a sacred trust.

Drawing from 2 Timothy 4:1–6, Pastor Opara urged the ordinands to preach the Word with clarity and conviction, uphold sound doctrine, and live lives that reflect the character of Christ. He stressed that in a world filled with distractions and moral decline, ministers must stand as watchmen, guiding souls toward righteousness and eternal hope.

The ordination ceremony was marked by prayers of consecration, as ordained ministers laid hands on the ordinands, committing them to God’s service and expressing confidence in their faithful discharge of duty.

Pastor Nation Amadi, President of the Cross River Conference, and Pastor Bassey Michael Adam, Executive Secretary of the Cross River Conference, presented the ordination robes to the newly ordained ministers, symbolizing their consecration and dedication to the gospel ministry.

Notably, the Cross River Conference Shepherdess Sponsor, Sheph. Chisaokwu Nation Amadi, welcomed Shepherdesses Treasure Victor and Jesam Uti, the wives of the newly ordained ministers, into the Ministerial Spouses Association. She charged them to remain committed and supportive partners in their husbands’ ministry.

The service drew church leaders and officers from across ENUC and beyond, including Pastor (Dr.) Anyalebechi Nnunukwe (ENUC Executive Secretary), Mrs. Chioma Ugochukwu (ENUC Treasurer), Pastor Obinna M. Akubude (ENUC Ministerial Secretary), Shepherdess Rejoice Opara (ENUC Shepherdess Sponsor), and Pastor Felix Anaba (Akwa Ibom Conference President).

The atmosphere was electrifying.
The City of Calabar felt it.

Under a drizzling rain, we marched!
Young and old,
On convoy and on foot,
Moving as one
To the rhythm of thundering drums.

Africa is for Christ!
Calabar is for Christ!
We are Rising In Hope!

FROM DISABILITY TO POSSIBILITY: SDA CHURCH IN CROSS RIVER CELEBRATES INCLUSION AND HOPE

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Cross River Conference celebrated Global Adventist Possibility Ministries (APM), welcoming over twenty Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as honored guests. Among them was Madam Ikwo Mkpang, State Coordinator for the Advocacy for Women with Disability Initiative and State Financial Secretary of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD).

A major highlight of the worship was a seminar titled “Early Signs, Lifetime Blessings: Practical Steps for Parents and Caregivers.”

The session was moderated by the Director of APM in Cross River Conference, Barr. Augustine Vicker Azubuike Uka, and featured contributions from Mrs. Victorine Obo, Associate Director of APM, and Madam Ikwo Mkpang.

The seminar emphasized early detection and the importance of support systems in helping children with disabilities thrive.

In her remarks, Madam Ikwo Mkpang offered a powerful perspective on inclusion and empowerment:
“People with disabilities need opportunity, not pity. We don’t dwell much on our disabilities like you do; we would rather demonstrate our abilities in the different ways we can.” She affirmed

Notably, Mr. Joseph Etim, after engaging with Global APM Celebration in Calabar, now prefers to be called a “Person with Possibility”. He commended the church for its inclusiveness, noting how the worship experience has deeply impacted his wife, who lives with visual impairment.

Delivering the sermon titled “Blessings in Trials,” Mrs. Victorine Obo drew from James 1:1–3, highlighting how trials can refine Christian character and create opportunities for witnessing. She emphasized God’s comfort and purpose even in difficult circumstances.

The Conference President, Pastor Nation Amadi, offered words of encouragement and prayers for the guests. Under his leadership, welfare materials and transportation support were provided for all attendees, including their aides and interpreters.

The historic event, held at the conference headquarters in Calabar, served as a powerful call for greater inclusion, fellowship, and recognition of the unique gifts within the disability community.

The day concluded with a collective pledge from church members to support the Adventist Possibility Ministries and transition their local buildings into disability-friendly spaces.

To God be the glory!
