General Assembly of PCN

The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria is privileged to host the 32nd General Assembly and the 96th Anniversary Celebration of the Christian Council of Nigeria in Abuja.

This occasion is more than another meeting of the Council. It is a celebration of ninety-six years of shared Christian witness in Nigeria.

In my welcome address at the opening of the General Assembly, I emphasized that this Assembly is not merely an administrative gathering but a moment to honour our long history of united Christian witness. I reflected on the resilience of the Church through decades of trial and uncertainty, reaffirming our confidence in God and drawing from the Apostle Paul’s assurance that though we are pressed on every side, we are not crushed.

I underscored the unity of the Christian Council of Nigeria as a divine gift and as a fulfilment of Christ’s prayer for oneness. This unity continues to strengthen our collective voice, deepen our mission, and enhance our witness across the nation.

I also addressed the painful realities confronting our country, most notably the ongoing violence and the brutal killings, particularly those targeting Christians. As a Church, we must defend the sanctity of human life and stand in solidarity with communities affected by violence and displacement. When any part of our nation suffers, the whole body of Christ bears the pain. I therefore called on all member churches of the CCN to renew their commitment to justice, peace-building, and compassionate ministry.

While acknowledging the gravity of these challenges, I anchored my remarks in the enduring hope we have in Christ. Our hope is firm and trustworthy, rooted in the love of God poured into our hearts. I encouraged the Church to remain steadfast in service, assured that our labour in the Lord is never in vain.

I extended my best wishes to all delegates and prayed that our deliberations would be guided by wisdom, discernment, and unity. I expressed confidence that this Assembly would provide renewed direction and strength for the Christian Council of Nigeria.

I congratulate the Council on its 96th Anniversary and pray for God’s continued blessings upon the Church in Nigeria.

‎Earlier today, His Eminence, Ekpenyong N. Akpanika, PhD, graciously stepped away from his demanding schedule to address key concerns at the recently concluded National Lay Conference, held at the City of Light Camp Ground, Yakkur LGA, Cross River State.

‎In his inspiring address, the Prelate commended the remarkable contributions of the Laity to the growth and expansion of the church. He encouraged them to remain steadfast as true ambassadors of the faith, discharging their responsibilities with humility and dedication.
‎
‎Dr. Akpanika further emphasized that lay leadership is a sacred service unto God, not a platform for division, resistance, or oppression of ministers assigned to their parishes. His message was a call to unity, service, and spiritual maturity within the church.
