ABAS UNICAL CELEBRATE FINALIST IN GRAND THANKSGIVING AS SEMESTER COMES TO AN END

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) chapter of the Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars (ABAS) rounded off its semester activities in grand style on Sunday, August 9, 2026, with a special end-of-semester Sunday service and Thanksgiving Service in honour of its finalists. The event, held at the Twin Pavilion, University of Calabar, brought together ABASites, distinguished personalities, chapter leaders, and members of the university community in an atmosphere of gratitude, celebration, and thanksgiving to the Father for His faithfulness throughout the academic session.
The service, which also marked a significant moment in the lives of the chapter’s finalists as they celebrate the completion of their undergraduate journey, was conducted by Sister Esu Abba, a finalist and the Vice President of the chapter. Speaking on the theme “God Never Fails,” drawn from Everlasting Gospel, Volume 1, Chapter 25, administering to the congregation that the Father never disappoints nor abandons His children, but faithfully leads them through every season and stage of their journey.
For the finalists, the message served as a powerful reflection of their academic journey. Their presence at the Thanksgiving Service stood as a testament to the theme of the day: The Father never fails. The divine service came to a close with a glorious outing around campus, as ABASites sang and praised the Father in joy and thanksgiving. This led into the much-anticipated Thanksgiving Service for the finalists.
The occasion was graced by distinguished personalities, with Christ Ambassador Dr. John Effiong serving as the Chairman of the Occasion, also present was His Grace Ifiok Abasi Udo, an alumni of the chapter and one time Youth Fellowship President in the kingdom, alongside Christ Ambassador Dr. Ayei Ibor, a one time State President of ABAS Cross River State, and many others. The event also welcomed the Presidents and members of ABAS UNICROSS and ABAS AMBO, who joined in celebrating the finalists.
The finalists were celebrated and honoured in grand style, with the signing of their T-shirts serving as one of the outstanding highlights of the occasion. The event proceeded smoothly, marked by lively entertainment, dancing, and heartfelt celebration, as ABASites and guests joined in celebrating the finalists. The distinguished and eloquent chapter president *Bro. Peter Ofem* delivered a notable welcome speech also reaffirming the chapter’s unwavering support for the finalists. He further pronounced blessings upon the finalist, praying for open doors, divine favour, success and fruitful opportunities in the labor market.
His Grace Ifiok Abasi Udo, shared reflections from his time in the chapter, offering words of counsel and encouragement to the finalists and pronouncing blessings upon them. In the same vein, Christ Ambassador Dr. Ayei Ibor encouraged the finalists to remain steadfast in the Father and also pronounced blessings upon them.
The Chairman of the Occasion expressed satisfaction with the initiative, commending ABAS UNICAL for organizing the Thanksgiving Service. The celebration concluded with his closing remarks and a sumptuous feast, bringing the Thanksgiving Service and the chapter’s semester activities to a memorable close.
