EPISODE 5: The Prince

Tayo, the manager, had been in love with her for years. Watched her come to the store with black eyes and still check expiry dates. He never crossed the line till her divorce was final.

He was Igwe’s nephew from a small Anambra kingdom. Educated in UK. Returned to Nigeria to ā€œdo business, not politics.ā€ He married Adaora quietly. At the wedding, he adopted Chuka and Chiamaka legally. ā€œThey’re princes now,ā€ he told them. ā€œBut your mother is the real royalty. She built a kingdom from crumbs.ā€

Obinna saw the wedding pictures on Instagram. Adaora in white, smiling with a man who held her like she was glass. Their son in a little tuxedo. Their daughter throwing flowers.

He sat in his one room in Mushin, looked at his hands, and finally understood: He wasn’t broke because money finished. He was broke because wisdom never started.

Educative Lessons:

1. Abuse is not protection. You can’t beat a woman and claim you love her because you ā€œdefendā€ her from others. The worst enemy was in her bed.
2. A woman’s silence is not stupidity. While he was drinking, she was planning. Forbidding her to work didn’t stop her from building.
3. Pride sells what poverty would have kept. He sold his mansion to save face. She bought it to save her children.
4. Money without sense is a loan from disaster. And disaster always collects.
5. The best revenge is not retaliation. It’s elevation. She didn’t ruin him. She just refused to be ruined with him.

Suspense twist:

The manager Tayo was the son of the bank manager who approved Obinna’s first loan. He’d watched Obinna insult his father years ago. He didn’t marry Adaora for revenge. He married her because he saw a queen surviving a fool. And queens shouldn’t raise princes alone.

EPISODE 3: The Fall

Odogwu fell hard. EFCC froze one account. AMCON took two fuel stations. The friends disappeared. He owed GTBank ₦300 million.

To avoid jail, he sold his VGC mansion. ₦220 million. Cash. He told Adaora, ā€œPack your things. We’re moving to a flat in Ikotun. You and the children. Don’t ask questions.ā€

He didn’t know that Nkechi, the ā€œbuyer,ā€ was Adaora’s sister. Adaora paid from Freshmart profits + a silent loan from Tayo who believed in her. House deed: Nkechi Eze. Real owner: Adaora.

Obinna moved out with one suitcase and his last girlfriend. He left Adaora and the kids in the rented flat that was actually theirs. He was too ashamed to look back.

6 months later, Obinna was a shadow. Sober by force. Doing security for a lounge in Lekki. His girlfriend left when the money dried. His family mocked him, ā€œWe told you that woman was bad luck.ā€

Hunger dragged him to Ikotun to see his children. The gate man at the VGC mansion stopped him. Oga, you no dey live here again.

ā€œI’m Obinna. This is my house. My wife and kids...ā€

ā€œMadam no dey. And this house na for Madam Nkechi.ā€

He waited 4 hours. Adaora drove in. Not the Toyota he left her. A new Land Cruiser. Kids in the back, iPads, school blazers. She was glowing. Tailored dress. No bruises.

He blocked the car. ā€œAda… I’m hungry. Just ₦20k for food. For the sake of our children.ā€

She rolled down the window. Calm. No anger. Just truth.

ā€œObinna, you protected me from your family, but you didn’t protect me from you. You said I shouldn’t work, so I worked in silence. You sold this house to pay debt. I bought it to give our children a future. The kids are fine. They won’t suffer.ā€

ā€œPlease, Adaā€¦ā€

ā€œThe supermarket you laughed at feeds them now. The mansion you threw away shelters them. I’m not your punishment, Obinna. I’m your consequence.ā€

She drove in. The gate closed.

Episode 2: The Quiet Rebellion

Obinna beat her when she talked too much. He beat her when she was silent. But he never let his sisters call her ā€œthat poor thingā€ in his presence. ā€œShe’s still Mrs. Eze,ā€ he’d roar.

Adaora smiled through swollen lips and started saving. Every hair money he gave, she cut half. Every ā€œgo and buy aso-ebiā€ allowance, she logged it. She sold the gold chains he bought her in spare moments and banked the cash under her mother’s maiden name.

In 3 years, she had ₦8.7 million. She registered ā€œAda’s Freshmart Ltdā€ using her younger sister Nkechi as director. She bought a failing supermarket in Surulere, painted it, stocked it, hired a smart UNILAG graduate named Tayo as manager. She told Obinna she was going to prayer meetings.

The supermarket picked up. Civil servants loved it. Tayo ran it clean. Profit went back into buying land.

Title: The Mansion He Sold to His Wife

EPISODE 1:
The Golden Cage

Chief Obinna ā€œOdogwuā€ Eze was born into money. Palm oil, real estate, 4 fuel stations. He married Adaora, a tailor’s daughter from Nnewi, because she was beautiful and quiet. His family hated it.

ā€œShe’s beneath you,ā€ his mother said. ā€œVillage girl will chop your money.ā€

Obinna slapped his brother for calling Adaora a gold-digger. ā€œNobody insults my wife. She’s the mother of my children.ā€ Then he turned around and slapped Adaora for asking why he came home at 3am smelling of Hennessy and perfume.

He gave her everything: cars, jewelry, trips to Dubai. And one rule: ā€œNo work. My wife doesn’t work. You sit and look pretty.ā€

But behind the pretty, Adaora was watching, Obinna’s money was leaving. Women in hotels. ā€œInvestmentsā€ in ponzi. Loans to friends who never paid back. She saw the bank alerts while he was drunk.

After their second child, a girl, she went to a clinic alone. ā€œMadam, I don’t want more children till my husband is sane,ā€ she told the nurse. She got the 5-year implant. He never knew.

Episode 6: The Choice

David never asked her out. He left for a 6-month UN assignment in Maiduguri.

In that time, Ifeoma volunteered at her father’s church. She saw the widow who got a shop from tithes. The boy who left cultism after her dad slept in the police station with him. She saw her mother’s joy wasn’t from money, but from purpose.

She understood: She didn’t want to avoid suffering. She wanted to avoid meaningless suffering.

When David returned, she was waiting at the airport. No ring. No speech. Just a question.

ā€œDo you still pastor?ā€

He smiled. ā€œEvery day. But I don’t have a church. Is that a problem?ā€

ā€œNo,ā€ Ifeoma said, taking his hand. ā€œI finally understand the difference.ā€

Lesson: Sometimes we don’t run from a title. We run from the trauma we attached to it. The pulpit isn’t the problem. The person, the purpose, and the posture of the heart is.

Suspense you didn’t see coming: The real pastor was never the one with the microphone.

The end.

Thanks for following till the end.

Episode 5: The Confrontation

The suspense broke on a rainy Tuesday. David drove her home. NEPA took light. They sat in his car, engine off.

ā€œI know your story, Ifeoma,ā€ he said softly. ā€œYou don’t hate pastors. You hate the pain you watched. But you cannot heal from a wound by running from the knife and the doctor.ā€

ā€œI don’t want a man married to the church,ā€ she shot back, angry tears falling.

He was quiet. Then: ā€œI’m not married to the church, Ife. I’m married to God. The church is just where we sometimes meet. If He ever asks me to drop the mic and sell groundnuts, I will. My pulpit is obedience, not a platform.ā€

He opened the door for her. ā€œYour father’s sacrifice gave you education. My own gave me scars. But both were love. Don’t judge the calling by the cost. Judge the man by his fruits.ā€

It is getting quite interesting

Will Ife break her vow or she will stand by it?

Let’s see in episode 6 and the last.

Episode 4: The Assignment

Broke and ashamed, Ifeoma took a finance job at a small NGO in Ibadan to hide. The CEO was Dr. David Adeyemi. Bow tie. Quiet. Always leaving by 5pm to coach boys at a correctional center.

He never preached to her. But he replaced her car battery when it died. He sent her home when she had migraines. He challenged her when she cut corners on a donor report.

ā€œIntegrity is worship, Ifeoma. Even when no one is clapping.ā€

One evening she saw him at her father’s church. Not on the pulpit. Back row, hands raised, tears streaming. Church closed and he stayed to pack chairs with the ushers.

Her father later told her: ā€œThat’s Pastor David. He planted 4 churches in Borno. Left when Boko Haram started. Said God told him to do trauma healing now, not sermons. He refused to collect salary from the ministry.ā€

Ifeoma’s vow shook.

Will Ife break her vow??
