ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

Date: August 30, 2026
Topic: Joshua's Covenant Renewal
Memory Verse: "Fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord." — Joshua 24:14 (KJV)

Today's class closed out the story of Joshua with one of the most moving moments in his life — his farewell address to the nation he had led for decades. Now old and near death, Joshua gathered Israel's leaders and reminded them of everything God had done: driving out their enemies, giving them a land they never laboured for, and fulfilling every single promise He had made. His warning was sobering — if they turned to the idols of the nations around them, God's blessing would turn to judgment.

At Shechem, Joshua recounted Israel's whole history, from Abraham's calling out of a pagan land, through the exodus, the wilderness, and the conquest of Canaan, making one thing unmistakably clear: every victory belonged to God, not to Israel's own strength. Then came the defining moment of the lesson — Joshua's challenge, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." The people responded with enthusiasm, renewing their covenant with God and setting up a memorial stone as a lasting witness to their promise.

Central Truth: God is always faithful to His covenant.

May we, like Joshua, look back honestly at God's faithfulness in our own lives, and may we, like Joshua's household, choose daily and deliberately to serve the Lord alone.

TEENS SUNDAY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

Topic: Getting the Message
Memory Verse: "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." — Joshua 24:15 (KJV)

Two cities, two very different outcomes — that's what shaped today's class. At Jericho, the Israelites obeyed God's unusual instructions to the letter, marching silently around the city for six days, and watched the walls collapse without a single sword being raised. But at Ai, Achan let greed get the better of him, secretly keeping items that were meant to be devoted to God, and his disobedience brought defeat and disaster on the entire nation.

The teens talked honestly about the mixed messages they face every day, from social media, music, and friends, and how those messages often clash directly with what God says. Just like Achan was tempted by what he saw and wanted for himself, it's easy to fall for the world's message of "look out for yourself" instead of God's message of self-control and trust. The class landed on Joshua's challenge at the end of his life: choose whom you will serve, and be willing to throw away any idol — anything valued above God — standing in the way.

Central Truth: We must obey God's message instead of falling for the world's lies.

May we, like Israel at Jericho, trust and obey God's instructions even when they don't make sense, and may we, learning from Achan, refuse to let anything in this world take God's place in our hearts.

CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

Topic: Thankfulness
Memory Verse: "In everything give thanks." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18a (KJV)

Ten men with leprosy cried out to Jesus for mercy, and He told them to go show themselves to the priest, as was the custom for anyone healed of the disease. On their way, all ten were miraculously healed — but only one of them turned back to thank Jesus, falling at His feet and praising God loudly. What made it even more striking was that the grateful one was a Samaritan, someone the Jews normally looked down on, while the other nine, who were Jews, never returned to say thank you.

The children learnt that God notices when we forget to thank Him, just as Jesus was surprised that only one out of ten came back. They were encouraged to build the habit of thankfulness — to God for His blessings, to their parents for all they provide, and to anyone who shows them kindness, since being thankful is a mark of good character.

Central Truth: We should cultivate the habit of thankfulness to God, our parents, and others.

May we, like the one grateful l***r, never let God's blessings pass us by without pausing to say thank you.
