📑Topic: Badly Injured, But Helped by Mercy

🗞️Text: 2 Samuel 4:4, 2 Samuel 9:1, Psalm 33:16-22, 1 Peter 1:3, Psalm 34:17

Summary

Everything about God is about mercy. Mercy flows from God to a mortal man. We all need help from time to time. No life can be too dark, ugly or bad to hinder the mercies of God.

When you hope and trust in His mercy, help comes speedily. Go can raise help from any source.

Divine help by mercy is the winning ticket in the journey of life. The beauty of this mercy is that it doesn't rate you according to the history of your wrongs. If God deals with us the way we are, we'll struggle till we die. But remember, “It's of the Lord's mercy we're not consumed.” (Lamentations 3:22)

When you're injured, you can no longer function well in life and you'll be dependent on others.

🧾Text: Luke 7:1-10

Summary

The fact that the centurion cared so much for his servant set him apart from the typical Roman soldier, who could be brutally heartless. The average slave owner of that day…had no more regard for his slave than for an animal.
But this centurion cared for his servant. And this dear servant became sick.
It was so bad, he was ready to die. He was at the point of death. So what did the servant have which was so bad? We don’t know. We aren’t told. But whatever it was, Matthew 8:6 indicates that the sickness caused paralysis and great torment. Generally, paralysis means you have no feeling. But this servant was paralyzed and in pain. He had the worst of both worlds. The centurion, who loved this servant, hated to see him in such distress and agony. So in Luke 7:3, he hears that Jesus is in town, and sends some people to ask Jesus to heal his servant.

Key Lessons
1. The centurion was a Roman officer, he loved the work of God and was religious.
2. When you invite Jesus, you're setting yourself up for a miracle
3. What you're passing through has a way of telling you lies.
4. There's Victoru when you tell your challenges to keep quiet
5. The character of faith says "I don't deserve" but your grace
6. The centurion acknowledged the might and authority of Jesus.
7. You can't have an encounter with Jesus and remain the same. When you meet Him, His presence purifies you and every yoke is broken.

Summary
When you say you have faith in God, it is the activities and actions that show that you have Faith. Abraham had faith in God, but what was his action? He obeyed God to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.

Looking at the sheep and goat case study, you'll notice a difference between the two animals. Most times, the Bible makes use of sheep to paint a picture. Why? Sheep are meek and lowly, while goats are arrogant. This case study doesn't talk about the difference between unbelievers and believers. However, it's a distinction between the two categories in the church.

Difference between goats and sheep
Sheep follow the voice of their shepherd and trust him to lead them to food, water and safety. If they wander, which some do, the shepherd will go out and rescue them and bring them back to the safety of the flock.
While

A goat, however, doesn’t follow anyone. A herd of goats goes where it wants, and the goatherd follows behind
Jesus calls the sheep those who are “blessed by my Father” (25:34). Who are the blessed ones? The blessings of the beatitudes foreshadow Jesus’ teaching.

In verses 35-40, Jesus lists all these acts of kindness that the sheep showed to Him. He said that they fed Him when He was hungry, they gave Him something to drink when He was thirsty, they took Him in when He was a stranger, they clothed Him when He needed clothing, they took care of Him when He was sick, and they visited Him when He was in prison.

What a beautiful reality! We can please Jesus by the way we treat our brothers and sisters in Christ! Further, we know that each and every one of us is so important to Jesus that He values the treatment of us like He values the treatment of Himself. How wonderful!

What is the result of obedience to Jesus? What is the result of living a life of faithfulness to God? What is the result of living out the good works that Jesus created us to live by the power of God’s Holy Spirit?

Well, jump back up to verse 34! The reward is for us to, “. . . inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

There will be some reward after this sorting, and it will be awesome.

Finally, . . .

There will be some condemnation (vv. 41-46)
This passage is pointing out a contrast. As there are sheep, there are also goats. As there is reward, there is also condemnation.

📖Topic: Alpha and Omega: The Observations of Jesus
🧾Text: Revelation 2:1-7, Deut. 6:5

Summary
Jesus is your begining and your end. Do not conclude it is over now when God hasn't concluded your matter.

When you scroll through the internet, you see a lot of sad news that makes it look as though God doesn't exist. We see gory pictures and sad news, but tte internet never emphasizes on the wonders of God.

Our opening text in Revelation talks about the observations of Jesus, using the church of Ephesus as case study.

What did Jesus observe about this church ?
1. The Christians at Ephesus were hard working, patient, had zero tolerance for sin.
2. The church of Ephesus were like the Berean church. The Berean church was a church known for searching the scripture after being taught.
3. They were ready to suffer for the truth. They were ready to persevere for righteousness.
4. They hated the doctrine of the Nicolaitans. What's this doctrine about? Their doctrines associated with those who were rebuked for eating things offered to idols and for fornication.

Someone said, "the church is becoming worldy"

But what is worldliness?
It means using everything you are supposed to use in the right order of God in the wrong way (to please the enemy). Know that worldliness is enmity with God.
Remember that despite Jesus's approval of the Ephesus church, there were still some grey areas.

What was this grey area?
The church was waxing cold in the love of God. This simply means that the church was becoming churchy. No relationship with the father. They only cared about the religious activities and not the master himself.

When love reduces, faithfulness reduces. God is asking us today to go back to our first love. God is saying we should re-establish a relationship with Him. Without the Love of God, serving God becomes mechanical. When there's the original Love of God, then Jesus becomes first and every other thing takes second place.

What is Jesus's Prescription?
1. Go back to your first love
2. Repent from iniquity
3. Restore your relationship with the father.
